Best school districts for special ed
I don't believe I've seen a thread like this on here, but if there has been one, I apologize.
What are the best school districts on Long Island for special education? What makes them "the best" and are they good across the board or only for particular kinds of special needs?

Your going to get a multitude of answers on this. I really think it depends on the child and the services you are looking for and every parent has a different relationship with the district. We purposed moved to the Three Village School district and I am beyond happy with everything and they have gone above and beyond for my daughter.

we live in the N. Bellmore School district and i could not be happier. they have gone above and beyond, and i feel have over offered us services (we have turned down services, once he started CSE)
it's very rare you get in-home services after a full day of school (CPSE & CSE) but we do. DS is moderate functioning and verbal

Re: Best school districts for special ed
We're in the Copiague SD and have had a good experience with the CPSE program.
Sometimes the people who answer the phone do not know what they are talking about, but I was impressed with what they offered DS considering all the stories I have heard about people not getting any kinds of services.
It's no secret that my district is pretty diverse, and I am wondering if that has something to do with the reason they were so generous with services.
I would be lying if I said I do not have concerns about him being left behind due to bigger issues going on with other kids in my district as he gets older.
On a positive note though, I think he is doing excellent and next year, DH and I want to discontinue the services even if they offer them again (or whatever the equivalent is to the next step in the process).

We are in Northport and have been doing CPSE meetings for a couple years now. My son is now CSE and my DD is CPSE and they have been nothing but amazing! I have my DDs meeting on Friday. I'm nervous, but, not really panicking. I've been dealing with the same panel for a few years and just hoping for the very best!
