breastfeeding and bottles
I plan on BF but also plan to pump so DH can feed baby and for when I go back to work. I had registered for First Years Breastflow starter set since I read that they were the best to avoid nipple confusion when switching between BF and bottle feeding. Now, after the BPA in plastic bottles I learned that this brand is not BPA free so does anyone recommend what I should switch to that will work for my situation? I plan on making the switch on my registry today.

Re: breastfeeding and bottles
My DD's pediatrician recommended Playtex Drop-Ins because the shape of the nipple is supposed to be good for breastfed babies...my daughter did fine with them, they are easy to clean, and are BPA free...I'll probably use them again with my next...I would only register for a few of whatever you chose, since it seems that the baby chooses the bottle they prefer!

Re: breastfeeding and bottles
We plan on doing the combo BF/bottle feeding as well. I registered for mostly drop-ins because they seem to fit our lifestyle the best in terms of cleaning. I also registered for one Adiri, one Born Free and one Dr. Brown's should she not take to the Drop-Ins. I really liked the Adiri, but they are rather costly.

Re: breastfeeding and bottles
I've been pumping into the Playtex Drop-Ins and DS hasn't had a problem. The Premium gift set comes with a connector piece that works with most breast pumps. Someone posted this link on parenting where Playtex will send a free sample Drop-Ins system:

Good luck!

I've used these bottles with my DS. He absolutely loves them because he can "nurse" them.

I used these while BFing and they worked out well. They are also pretty easy to clean.

I'm hoping this happens with DD once she's born as we got the Dr. Browns glass as well!

Re: breastfeeding and bottles
I posted about this the other day, I am in the same situation as you and I am still totally confused. I don't know if I should rent a pump from the hospital or buy one? If I rent one I am not sure if the drop ins I use will be BPA free....

That is good to know. I think I may get the gift set the OP was talking about which includes a connector pump. I wonder if they sell the set at BRU?

Re: breastfeeding and bottles
Honestly, I think there is a lot of conflicting information out there. A lactation consultant told us (at the Ultimate Baby Shower) that BFing women should pump so that the father can participate in feeding the child. She made a point of saying this.
It makes me wonder where the idea of "nipple confusion" comes from. I think some subscribe to it and others don't. Though I don't have numbers, I am willing to bet that a significant amount of women feed from the breast as well as from a bottle. There are plenty of infants in day care who get bottles of breast milk during the day and feed from the breast at home.

The Playtex Premium gift set I got was from BRU. I was just looking on BRU's site (where I got mine) and I don't see the connector piece mentioned, but I just checked the packaging on my box and it's mentioned on the front. Go figure. I also bought the Playtex Breast Milk Storage Kit so that I could have an extra connector piece.

Re: breastfeeding and bottles
I registered for the Born Free Plastic Bottles (BPA free) and the Playtex Drop Ins. We'll see how those work out and if the baby takes to them.
*EDIT* Forgot to mention - Not sure if this is true of all babies but my friend breastfed her first child until he was 18 months. She made sure that the hospital gave him a bottle while he was there and right from the start she never had a problem having him switch back and forth between the bottle and the breast. She just had a daughter in Feb. and she said she made the biggest mistake ever in not giving her a bottle in the hospital like her son. She's been breastfeeding her now for almost 3 months and she flat out refuses every single type of bottle out there AND pacifiers too!! My friend said it's stressful because she has to be with the baby all the time and nobody else can feed her. Anyway, she advised me to make sure the baby gets a bottle in the hospital so I wanted to pass along the tip just in case.

Re: breastfeeding and bottles
I also opted for the playtex dropins. They seem to make the most sense as far as pumping is concerned.

I don't really believe in "nipple confusion". My DS is 3 months old and he took a pacifier on day 3 and I EBF. He never was confused. I also had them take him to the nursery at night and feed him formula b/c I was exhausted from my c-section. He was completely fine and definitely not confused!
