Completely with it. Knew what was going on the whole time. I actually had an awesome cs experience. I felt great and was pretty much back to normal routine when I went home.

This is me as well. I was very fortunate. I had my CS at 6:50 pm and was able to help the nurses transfer myself to my bed in my room by 9pm. I was up and walking by 8am the next morning.

C section question

I was totally jipped by my c-section experience. It makes me upset sometimes just thinking about it.

The anesthesiologist over did it and gave me waaaay too much medicine. When I had the epi when I was in labor I overheard the nurses making comments about how I had the infamous "dead leg" that he gives patients from really amping up the the meds.

I remember him asking if I could feel anything below my waist and I said my leg was starting to tingle. The last thing I remember was being shaved and then I have no idea how much time passed but my DH was saying "it's a girl babe...it's a girl!" I remember saying "did they cut me?" and he said "yeah she's out". I was so out of it, I had no idea what was going on. I saw her and said "she's beautiful" and the next thing I remember is being wheeled to recovery. My brother was on the phone congratulating me and then I remember coming to again in the recovery room.

I barley have any recollection of my DD being born and there are pics of DH holding DD after she was born and I'm completely unconscious in the background in the OR.

Re: C section question

I had 2 scheduled c-sections and both were great! Was wide awake and coherent for both - just numb from the waist down. I wouldn't change a thing about the birth of my 2 girls!

I totally know how you feelChat Icon
My situation was different. I was put under general anesthesia and had magnesium for pre eclampsia.
I was completely out of it, I remember asking if they were breathing and my mom trying to show me pictures and not being able to stay awake to look at them. I felt completely jipped. I then developed fevers and didn't see them fun till they were 3 days old. I was angry and upset for a while. But then someone I know had a late loss (39weeks) and it put things in perspective for me.

I think over time you will feel better but I think it is completely normal to have those feelings Chat Icon

Re: C section question

Mine was an emergency and I kinda was like you. I was REALLY out of it. They brought DD to me in recovery so I could try to nurse and I couldnt even stay awake, nevermind hold her by myself. They nurses were great and held her for me. I was completely out of it for hours and only remember bits and pieces for the whole first chunk of the day.

C section question

Mine was scheduled and I got a spinal so I was completely alert for it. Later that day the pain meds made me kind of out if it and tired though. I remember falling asleep midsentence talking to one of the nurses. Something that they gave me made me so itchy for some reason all over my body which was really annoying bc it kept me awake that night and bc I was in so much pain from the cs I couldn't even reach my legs to scratch them.

I had a scheduled C and was totally alert the whole time. I was really surprised by how awake and in the moment I was.

C section question

i had an emergency cs and was under general anestesia due to pre-e and HELLP at 33w. it was horrible, horrifying, traumatic, an overall horrendous situation. i lost half my blood volume trying to get the placenta out (I had accreta that wasnt discovered until the CS) and the CS took about 2.5 hours. forget about pictures, my DH was not in the room, my DD went straight to the NICU. i went in around 3:30pm and i dont even remember anything including them telling me the gender (we were team green) until after 9pm. i needed several transfusions all night long and was on a morphine pump and magnesium for BP. i didn't see my DD until almost 48 hours after she was born.

i know my situation is abnormal but it was truly awful. i am embarrassed to even say this but as much as i love my DD that was one of, if not the, worst experiences of my life. to say i got jipped is the understatement of my life. i went through a year and a half of IF and IVF and lost almost 25% of my pregnancy cause i delivered so early.. im not looking to have another baby for awhile longer but next time around im determined to VBAC. i never want to have another csection ever again.

Re: C section question

I had a c section with DD1 and DD2. Both times I had a spinal and I was completely with it during and after. Both were scheduled.

I had an emergency c-section and I also felt very out of it. I remember it completely, but the drugs made me so sleepy/nauseous/violently shake that I couldn't even enjoy the birth of my child. It was like being in a very lucid dream.

My recovery was horrible though. It was so painful and I could barely walk. Plus my child ended up going into the NICU, so I didn't even get to see him for longer than a few minutes until the next day when I could finally transfer myself into a wheelchair. Luckily my husband was able to go down there and be with him when I couldn't. It made the entire nursing experience a battle for the first few days.

My doctor was great, he really helped to make me feel comforted. He has informed me though that if I have a second child there is a great possibility I'll needed another section (due to my size). This scares me to the point that I fear getting pregnant again. But maybe if I know I'm going in for a section it'll be different than having an emergency one. Least that's what I keep telling myself. Hopefully I'll be able to have a vbac.

Re: C section question

I've talked to people who used my dr because I thought they just did it that way. But some were totally awake. I seemed to come to at key points. Dr saying one was breach, announcing girls, times, hearing them cry, weights, dh telling me one was going to nicu. They woke me. Each time to see babies being brought to the table. And they showed me babies. The rest I was asleep for. Which is why I think they were bringing me to in spurts. It was all too surreal. I thought it was just like that until I saw others totally fine after. Actually my roommate was fine after too but it was her 3rd.

Re: C section question

Mine wasn't exactly an emergency, but not exactly planned either. WE found out DS was breech at our appt on the Friday before Labor Day. We scheduled a version for the Tuesday after but my water broke that night so we went in early Saturday morning for the section.

I was completely knowcked out due to another conditon and the anestesiologist wouldn't give me a spinal block or epidural. I woke up miserable and very out of it. I was throwing up - or at least trying (which was horrible with the incision.)

I didn't get to see DS for hours after and when I did, I remember thikning he was so amazing, but still I was so tired and miserable I couldn't really enjoy him. I wish people had saved some of the messages I left because I know I sounded totally drugged out.

I didn';t stop feeling naseaus until late that day or next morning so I wasn't up and walking till the next afternoon.

I still feel jipped. I mean, I'm ok with it now, but still wish it had gone differently. I'm hoping for a VBAC this time - but we'll see. At least though, I have spoken to my neurologist who said she will write a note that they can give me an epidural if need be so I hopefully won't run into the same issue again.

I've had one unplanned and two scheduled c-sections. I was wide awake and fully aware with all three--unfortunately so, because I panic big-time! Chat Icon

Same here. The only thing I do remember experiencing was the shakes in recovery and I was itchy like a crackhead that night. Other than that I was surprisingly fine.

Re: C section question

With my ds, I had an emergency c-section. I was induced and after 24 hours of labor, I was only 4 cm dialated and his heart rate was dropping so we went into the OR at like 11:30 p.m. I remember NOTHING from that c-section. I was sooooo tired. I remember thinking I must be dying b/c I literally couldn't even keep my eyes open to meet my son.

With my dd, who I just had in January, I remember everything. It was scheduled, I went in at 9:30 a.m. and was completely alert and awake. It was weird because I felt so much pushing/pressure - when I had ds I literally felt nothing. I was more freaked out this time feeling everything and being so aware of what was going on.

Both times, I was very eager to get up and move around and got my catherter out as soon as I could (kept begging the nurses to take it out so I could get up and walk around)

I guess with different babies/different people it will just be a different experience.

Re: C section question

I was a little nauseous from whatever they put in the spinal and completely panicky, but I was fine after the docs gave me anti-nausea meds. I was pretty much with it and I was fine after. Walking the day after made me want to die, but I was fine after that. Mine was a scheduled c/s and I will have to have a scheduled c/s with any subsequent babies.

Same here word for word. Only thing different was, the next 2 days in the hospital I was so so so ITCHY.

I refused the Benadryl because the nurse said it would knock me out for hours.

Re: C section question

I had a Csection and i was fine during the surgery up until the end when they were finishing up I was feeling some sensations and they gave me more pain meds. I was able to hold DD and take pics but it was hard for me not to want to close my eyes. They gave DD to DH and they went outside when I was wheeled to RR i was able to hold her down the short hallway then they took her to the nursery. I was sad that I wasnt able to bond with her and DH but I was so tired with being in labor for so long.
Up in the room honestly I was so tired I dont remember much just patches. I still have post scar pain 9 mo out now and then. I think it just depends on the person how you recover.
