Re: C-Section questions...

How long until you were on your feet? Did you need a lot of help at home? Did you insurance cover any kind of home health services, and did you need them? Anything else -- thanks!
QUOTE]
I had to schedule my c-section, no signs of labor or dropping and my baby was measuring big. Dr said we can let it go, but he felt I would end up in an emergency c-section if I was to go in labor or be induced...so why cause baby distress? I honestly never thought I was having a c-section...when faced with it, I took dr's recommendation and did not look back.
c-section was at 1:30 PM, I was walking that night...painfree. The only time, I had only taken 4 ibprofren...that was it. no pain at all.
I had no help at home. I don't live near any family and my DH had to go back to work. The only difficult thing was not lifting over 10 pounds...I had a baby that was 9.7, and the infant carseat, so I scheduled dr appts around DH's work schedule so that he would be home.
My sister arrived about a week later.
Not sure if you are going to BF or not...but I made it clear that the baby was to latch onto me ASAP. That was my biggest concern with the c-section. I held my baby in recovery within the hour nursing him.
It was the best and most exciting 11 minutes of my life. I will schedule my next one also. I don't have a single issue or complaint.

Re: C-Section questions...
I had a great recovery from my c-section. I was in the hospital for 4 nights, 5 days. I only needed pain medicine for a little bit and was up and about within 24 hours. The first week home was a little tough but I drove and went to work to drop off paperwork within the first week. Just don't overdue it and listen to your body.
I also had no issues afterwards with the incision and it healed very nicely.

Re: C-Section questions...
My advice is to get up and about as soon as you can. It will hurt like hell, but it will help you in the long run. By the time I came home I was feeling much better. I didn't love the recovery. I developed a cough, and it hurt like a b&tch when I coughed or lauhged. Getting out of bed at home was no picnic either. But it doesn't last too long.

Re: C-Section questions...
How long until you were on your feet? My c-section was at 7:30pm. I was up on my feet the next morning around 10am- however, walking was very difficult and I moved very slowly.
Did you need a lot of help at home? My mom stayed with me my first week home and then came by regularly the second week. This was a huge help since my DH had to go right back to work and couldn't be home to help me.
Did you insurance cover any kind of home health services, and did you need them? I never looked into this. I would call your insurance provider and ask them.
I can relate to your statement about natural childbirth. That was my plan, as well.

Sorry for the barge again -- I hope to INTRODUCE myself on here real soon -- but in the meantime I am just waiting semi-patiently...
I may have to schedule a C-section and wanted to know people's experiences afterwards -- the good, the bad, and all in between.

I know, I went from asking about natural childbirth to this - man plans, God laughs....
I was up and around the next day! I may have needed a lot of help - but I didnt get it! I did pretty much everything on my own - it was fine - hurt a little, but thats what the vicodin was for! I didnt need home health services - in a week I was really fine!

Re: C-Section questions...
I think my c's were harder and more painful with each one (I had 3).
The first one, I never needed the meds, never filled the prescr. I was up and down and all around the house right away. (but my scar opend up a tiny bit) so I decided NOT to be a superhero the next 2 times.
the pain was much worse with # 2 and 3. I got bad gas pains in my chest (only a fellow c mommy would understand this). you cant breathe, your chest hurts, and my experience was a pins and needles feeling, all throughout from my belly to my neck. just remembering it can make my eyes well up. It was hard to even get rest because I got the chest pain as I breathed, which I was told was from the gas buildup from being opened up. and I had to walk it off, and it was so hard to get up at first, but I was up within 24hrs with each C. but once youre up its not as hard. its the GETTING UP, that is such a huge process. (for me it was) at the beginning. I hope this didnt scare you, but this was my experience. (in the hospital).
And when youre on the meds, you THINK youre doing so well, as they start to wear off
For the most part, I was always very optimistic, as soon as I was given the ok, (actually the nurses WANT you out of bed and walking asap) quick to shower, walk and keep going strong, but it's still major surgery, and you need to take it at your own pace.
All the best to you
