I am so sorry you had to deal with that. I am always afraid, what if DS is THAT child?! But I hope if he ever is, I will be able to handle it as well as it sounds like you did.

Our kids DO understand and its amazing!
Sometimes its so hard to be a GOOD parent.... it takes a hell of a lot of work to discipline, explain, teach manners etc.... vs. reading the report and just sending him to his room for 15min...
Good job Mommy!
You have shown your child that it is soooo important to be a "good" friend and not be aggresive!
IMO- its one of the MOST important lessons in life (being kind!) thank you!!!!

if this other kid is a trouble maker he has probably been busting cailen's chops for some time and cailen finally had enough and retaliated.
yea that's what I'm thinking too! The whole time I was reading your story I was wondering what would provoke an obviously good child.
Lots of hugs to you- you handled the situation well- even though it was obviously hard
that's a big part of what upset me - that in a way, Cailen was valid for acting in this way although I don't agree with it and told him that he can never do anything like this. I had a long discussion with him about knowing who he can go to if he needs help (the teachers) and if he ever feels a teacher isn't helping him, to be sure to tell me.
I also told him if anyone ever hurts him, to be sure to tell a teacher- he has told me in the past that he has been pushed or hit, but didn't tell the teacher. I think he gets a little embarassed or shy about things like that for some reason. But a lot of it is that he is so independent he feels he can take care of things on his own. I felt very sad for him that he felt he needed to take care of this, and told him that it only caused him to get in trouble.
He told me the other kid got in trouble too, so he must have had some part in this. They both were "benched" outside. Cai told me he cried the whole time on the bench (he always tells me about THE BENCH outside where the "bad" kids go. He was devastated that he wound up there!!! I had to hide a laugh when he told me about that )

Great job Liza!!! I liked the way you and your dh handled the situation. So refreshing to see that you did not try to make excuses for Cai's behaviour or even try to blame the teacher..... etc. Great job!!!
