Re: Can you tell me your experience with Cervidil?
I had cervidil, it hurt alittle when it was place in but I think that is only because the dr was alittle rough..other then that once its in I didnt even know...I had to doses when they induced me.

Re: Can you tell me your experience with Cervidil?
It felt uncomfortable, kind of like a tampon. Unfortunately for me, it didnt work and I wound up with a c-section

Re: Can you tell me your experience with Cervidil?
For me, it was the most painful part of my labor experience, but I had an epi too.

To be honest, it didn't hurt me at all. However, it didn't work & they had to give me a CS
Edited post to say: they had to give me a CS (not pitocin)

Huh? I thought they gave pitocin almost all the time after cervidil?

Re: Can you tell me your experience with Cervidil?
Didn't bother me at all. I had no side effects either. As someone else said it was like using a tampon.
Unfotunately it was a complete waste. Didn't go anything for me as far as labor was concerned.

Re: Can you tell me your experience with Cervidil?
Didn't really hurt, I was already having contractions - I did it twice (at 10 hours each! ) and it did nothing! I still needed the c/s!!!!

i am assuming if the cerdivil is able to work there would be no need for the pitocin. At least this is what my OB said.
BOTH didn't work for me

Yes, I think cervadil is to thin the cervix and the pitocin is used to bring on contractions. So they're used for 2 different purposes when inducing labor, I believe.
Thankfully when I went in for my induction I was already thinning so I didn't need the cervadil, just the pitocin!

Re: Can you tell me your experience with Cervidil?
It didn't hurt to be placed. They put it in during what is similar to an internal exam...so no more uncomfortable than that. For me I am one of 3% where cervidil puts you into full blown labor, as opposed to just help soften and dialate. I had my baby 10 hours after it was placed. Basically 1 cm an hr til DS was born.
Good luck!

Re: Can you tell me your experience with Cervidil?
I had cervadil on a Monday night at 7pm. It hurt a BIT going in, but nothing unbearable. They removed it at 6am and then started me on pitocin. I wound up with a c-section due to lack of dialation and had a 9lb, 8oz baby girl
good luck, it will all work out fine

Yeah, MOST of the time they do....few people go into labor with just the cervadil unless they are a bit dialated before getting it

Re: Can you tell me your experience with Cervidil?
hurt a little when he was inserting it but after a couple of mins it was fine. Pain was not being able to move around while it was in....mine actually came out after about 2 hours as my body decided to cleanse itself and out it popped. Nurse went to get doc to put in another one...by the time he arrived it was too late as I was nearly 10cms
I didnt have pitocin.
My doc said I moved very fast with just cervadil and he had told my DH to go home as nothing would happen until the morning....I am glad he decided to stay.
Good luck

Re: Can you tell me your experience with Cervidil?
I was induced - starting with Cervidil. It was not comfortable going in - but that may depend on the dr's touch. I started full blown contractions a few hours later with the Cervidil. I also thought I might not need the Pitocin (even the my dr said I would - I still hoped.) I didn't dilate with the Cervidil - since it's only supposed to soften your cervix. But I only needed the Pitocin for a few hours before I was ready to deliver. It was quick after that.
Good luck! You will be fine!

Re: Can you tell me your experience with Cervidil?
It really didn't hurt. It's not too comfy at first, but, honestly after I forgot it was there. Unfortunatley, it didn't work for me, so, it was off to Pitocin, which, didn't work either, so I ended up in a C/S.

Has anyone just had the cervidil & not have to have the pitocin?

it didn't hurt, but didn't do much for me either. There is a link to my birth story in my profile. Good luck!

Re: Can you tell me your experience with Cervidil?
It didn't hurt at all going in and it worked for me. The cervadil was administered at 9PM, the pitocin was administered at 6AM, my water broke at 8:15AM and the baby was born at 6PM. I wasn't dialated at all when I went into the hospital. Worked like a charm!

Re: Can you tell me your experience with Cervidil?
Getting it put in hurt. It felt like I really bad internal. She warned me that it would feel like she was reaching for my tonsils and it did. But it went quick and once it was in, I didn't feel it. I did get contractions (but not really bad ones--just like severe AF cramps) and had them all day. It was supposed to come out and then I was to sleep and get pitocin in the morning. Well, as soon as it was taken out, I went into full blown labor and gave birth 4 hrs later.

Re: Can you tell me your experience with Cervidil?
It was a little bit uncomfortable but not painfull. It didn't work though and then they tried a foley balloon which made me see stars....pain like that should be illegal. Then I got the epi and all was right in the word : )

it was such a non issue that it didn't even do anything! nothing, nada.
Neither did the Pitocin! Stick that in your medical book

didn't feel it at all once it was in. mildly uncomfortable being put in.
but it worked wonders for me! i was only 1 cm dilated at incucement and cervadil dilated me to 10cm!! i didn't need pitocin at all
being taken out was painful but that's because i was begging for the epidural at that point

Yeah, MOST of the time they do....few people go into labor with just the cervadil unless they are a bit dialated before getting it
from what I was told, the Cervidil is just to ripen the cervix a little, thin it out. although a small percentage of women do go into labor from it. However, it didn't soften my cervix at all, and the Pitocin I got in the morning did not bring on contractions or any kind of labor either.
