I have a 16 year old daughter and I personally don't want decisions about her made by my school district.

Decisions are not being made w/o your knowledge. If you don't want your daughter to be able to participate, fill out the Opt Out letter and make sure it's submitted to the office.

Wouldn't it be a better idea to have an "opt in" letter? Otherwise the default is they are allowed to get these drugs. Negative consent doesn't seem like a good idea in this case. What if the student doesn't take the form home and the parent is unaware of the program?

An "opt in" letter is extremely unrealistic. The girls that would benefit from this are those with parents who barely "opt in" to their lives let alone give them sex education.

You might be right. I guess I would hate the idea of my daughter getting bcp's or an abortion without my knowledge.

I do not agree with this program. They are minors and should not be given free access to the morning after pill at school without their parent's consent.

.

I agree with this. Not to mention, this seems like a HUGE liability if the student has an adverse reaction to the pills.

I also agree.

I'm somewhat on the fence about this issue, but I more so agree with these sentiments.

But teens already have access to abortions without parental consent, which is a much more invasive medical procedure. What if the schools teamed up with Planned Parenthood and were giving out the birth control under the supervision of a doctor, PA or NP (as I would hope would be the case)?

There are clinics within the school buildings that are run by medical professionals, and this is who is prescribing and distributing these medications for the CATCH program. There's no way a teacher / guidance counselor/ social worker / administrator could give out something like Plan B.

I agree with this program 100%.

Sorry but I work in a school where 6th graders have been pregnant.

Should it happen, HELL NO! They should not be having sex, but they are!! Most of these girls are forced to have the baby by their religious families or wait too long to tell anybody or until they even realize themselves to have an abortion.

I am glad they now will have some options.
