dance moms, recital make up question
What kind of makeup do you use on your little ones. DD is 5 and this is her first recital and she has very sensitive skin. I want to buy something and try it out before her recital on the 25th.
thanks.

Re: dance moms, recital make up question
DD is 4 and had her first recital yesterday...they said to put on makeup but all i used was some of my blush (MAC) and my light pink lip gloss. She looked perfect...no need to overdo it at that age imo

I used some blush and a nude color lipstick. Enough to give her color but not too much for a 4 year old.

I bought whatever wasn't crazy expensive since I knew I'd never use those colors on myself. For sensitive skin I'd go with Almay or maybe Neutrogena. Our studio asked for heavy blush and red lipstick which i don't mind doing one day a year. Light colors aren't going to make any difference up on a stage.

I just use my own makeup. Blush and lip gloss. Mine is 10 and I don't like her looking like a clown.

Re: dance moms, recital make up question
We have required makeup (certain brands and colors), but I do powder foundation, mascara, a little eyeshadow, blush, and lipstick on my almost 4 year old. She's my third dancer, so I'm a little more liberal about it with her than I was with my first.

Re: dance moms, recital make up question
We are at the same place 2 years, but different teachers. Last year, the teacher recommended makeup - blush and lipstick. Some kids had it, some didn't. Some of them had rubbed off most of the lipstick by stage time anyway. This year, our teacher said she doesn't recommend makeup at this age group (4-5), so we didnt use it. I didn't think they looked pale or washed out from my seat. For last year, I used a lip liner with a gloss over it so it would stay better. I don't remember the brand, I picked by color. For cheeks, I think I used something I had already. Maybe bare minerals.

Mine is 2 1/2 and I only put some neutrogena blush and burts bees tinted lip gloss that was reddish in color. They suggested eye shadow and mascara, but I refused to put that on DD.

I used a tiny bit of lip gloss. My 5 year old doesn't need to be putting that stuff on her skin.

How would they know if you didn't use the right brand? Oh my! That's not revlon blush- that's L'Oreal!! Kick that kid out of the recital STAT!

Re: dance moms, recital make up question
They are required to wear full face make up. I bought DD her own mascara and lipstick. The rest she wears my stuff. We did a trial at home with all of my stuff to find what colors work for her. I make sure to properly clean my brushes too.

Seriously
My daughter is 10 and I have never put mascara on her for a dance recital. She looks just fine under the lights! Our pics always come out perfect. That is just nuts to me. At 2 I know mine would've been smearing that crap all over her eyes.

Not to mention it can't be good for them, getting it in their eyes like that? It's borderline abusive IMO. People won't use certain sunscreens on their kids but mascara in their eye is ok? I would love if someone told me to put mascara on my 2 year old- It wouldn't have been pretty and we'd probably be asked to leave.

I know right!!! She's literally on stage for 90 seconds and I couldn't imagine putting mascara on her. I got a 19 page recital handbook and literally almost died reading it.

Re: dance moms, recital make up question
Thanks everyone. I don't wear makeup so I don't have anything to share with her.
Her dance teacher hasn't said anything yet about makeup for the recital, I was just assuming. I have to find out for sure before I go crazy.
Thanks again!!

Re: dance moms, recital make up question
There is no way I would put any eye make up on a two year old. At two, just lipgloss is fine. My Dd is nearly eight. I did not realize how young your child is.

Re: dance moms, recital make up question
My kids are competitive dancers...I don't know if they could really tell if we use the "right" makeup, aside from the lipstick and eyelashes (we started those in 1st grade)...I'm not sure if anyone would risk not using the requires stuff.

Re: dance moms, recital make up question
I just use my own makeup, whatever I have lying around. At 2-4, I didnt do makeup, didnt care what they suggested. This year was the first year we did makeup on her. Shes 5. We did blush, lipgloss and a shimmering cream color eyeshadow.

Re: dance moms, recital make up question
So apparently I abused my kid
They asked for neutral eyes. Mascara. Blush and lipstick
I used my own stuff but bought her a red lipstick
And you know what. She loved every second of it
