We have required makeup (certain brands and colors), but I do powder foundation, mascara, a little eyeshadow, blush, and lipstick on my almost 4 year old. She's my third dancer, so I'm a little more liberal about it with her than I was with my first.

How would they know if you didn't use the right brand? Oh my! That's not revlon blush- that's L'Oreal!!
Kick that kid out of the recital STAT!

My kids are competitive dancers...I don't know if they could really tell if we use the "right" makeup, aside from the lipstick and eyelashes (we started those in 1st grade)...I'm not sure if anyone would risk not using the requires stuff.

My question was more how can they TELL what brand it is to make sure you used the right brand. I am more curious on how they vet that once it's applied to the face.
Because I can't tell the difference between NYX blush and Neutrogena blush when it's on the skin, but maybe I am not skilled enough.

We were given a few options of suggested brands and colors. Last year I looked and couldn't find one color in the list. This year i didn't bother and just picked whay was on sale.

She looked great, not noticeably done up despite the darker colors and she loved it.
