Did you invite your FMIL wedding dress shopping with you?
I did not have that type of relationship with FMIL.
But my brother just got engaged...he is in Brooklyn. My mother is empty nesting big time and he is the only one still living around her.
I told her to shoot bride email asking if she can tag along for dress shopping
(they all get along, my mother goes to her family's house for easter and thanksgiving)
my mother says she feels like she would be intruding...
i am only going by say yes to the dress sometimes i see fmils there

No, I wanted to go with just my mom.
I did go shopping for her dress for our wedding with her, she has no daughters so I knew she'd be going alone or with FIL and I figured it was a good compromise.

No. She came to a fitting -- but not dress shopping.
Honestly, unless your mom has that kind of relationship with her FDIL, I wouldn't send the email. The bride will of course feel awkward and say yes to her, even if she may not necessarily want her there.

I had a weird situation and my MIL actually picked my dress out. It was just a random pick really but trust me, my mother doesn't forget.

My mil came shopping and to all my fittings. She has two sons and really wanted to be a part of it and we get along great.

Yes.
Let me explain, my mom has been deceased for decades. My MIL was not included in any of the plans for DH's first wedding. Both of his sisters were married almost 15 years before us.
I took her with me to a few salons on my first day looking at dresses. I then continued shopping by myself and found my dress on one of my solo trips.
Had my mother been alive I'm pretty sure I would not have invited MIL.

H@LL No! Besides the fact that my ex-FMIL was not interested in her son's wedding at all and I never would have asked her, this was something that my mom had been looking forward to doing this for years with me alone and didn't want anyone else there.
I agree that if the FMIL asks the bride, she may feel she has to say yes, whether she wants to or not. IMO, she should see if the bride asks her.

I can definitely understand what you mean and where you are coming from with it. But wedding dress shopping really is just such an intimate thing mostly for the bride and the people who she chooses, primarily being her mom and whoever else. Only your mom knows how close they are, and if she feels she would be "intruding" that might be a hint there that they may not be at that point yet.
She can always offer to help in other aspects of the wedding to try and get involved -- especially the shower!

no, but I did bring her to see "the" dress once I had decided. She has 2 daughters who were already married, so she shared that experience with them.

Yes I did. My mom and I actually went a half hour earlier and looked through dresses. My mother-in-law, sister-in-law and best friend who was my maid of honor met us a little later. I didn't mind having my MIL there. I felt that she should be part of it since I was marrying her son. I actually ended up picking out the first I tried on with my mom. I put it back on for everyone else later on.

MIL and I are very close and I took her with me on my first (and only) trip to go dress shopping. I had it narrowed down to 2 dresses and knew that the first one I put on was the one. She was the only one with me...my mom wasnt upset in the least.
Plus my hubby is an only child so even if I wasnt as close as I am with her I would want to invite her only because I know she wouldnt ever get to experience that.

I have a great relationship with my MIL but when i went gown shopping. I just wanted me my mom & my two sisters. My daddy came a bit later to see. If my brother was there it would have been a complete family outing. lol lol In any case i loved it just the way it was. I liked sharing it with my family only.
When she went gown shopping she asked me to go with her & i did. It was great.

I did not but mil doesnt reall speak english which makes interaction without dh hard even though i love her.
I think the bride needs to extend the invite though and not your mom email her first. But i do get where youre coming from

Nope, just my mom and sister.
same for me also. my mother-n-law and i don't have that type of relationship. she also would have not been happy with how much I spent on my dress.
I tried to take my mother-n-law shopping for a dress for her for my wedding. what a nightmare.. she got her dress 3 days before my wedding...my mom got hers 6 months before my wedding.

Yes-my MIL came...as did my Mom, my aunt, DH's aunt, DH's grandma, DH's couins, my uncle's sister in law, my uncle's sister in law's daughter in law, and half my bridal party. 
ETA: There were a couple of times that I went ONLY with my Mom.
