I have the best relationship with my mother in law. She came shopping with me for my dress.
If your future sis in law is comfortable I say it would make your moms day to be asked.
Just have your brother ask the fiance. If she says no, no harm.

My mil came shopping and to all my fittings. She has two sons and really wanted to be a part of it and we get along great.

I didn't invite mine, I felt it would have been intruding on my mom's and my sister's rights. I sometimes feel that I should have asked her to come, she didn't have daughters of her own.
I did go dress shopping with her for HER MOG dress though! I still remember it as a very special day I got to spend with her.

I think I did bring my MIL actually and we aren't super close either. It was something I thought would be nice to do with her, my mom and me.

Not that there's anything at all wrong with bringing a FMIL, but when I envision dress shopping it's with my mom. I feel like it's kind of her "right" as MOB and as the mom of a daughter.
Anyone ASKING to come along would be monumentally rude and intrusive and put the bride in a really awful position. I know my mom would be hurt if I brought along a FMIL.

No I did not ask her because I didn't think she would want to come.
If she had asked me, or even just suggested that she might want to come along she would have been more than welcome.

No, I never really thought about it--I wne tonly withmy mom--but MIL only has DH, so maybe I should have. Her sister only has boys too & she went with one of her DILs--to see the dress after she had picked it, but before she ordered it.
I don't think I even showed her a picture.

I would have done that if she asked me, but I didn't want to ask her, b/c I didn't want her to feel that she couldn't pick out whatever she wanted.

I barely went dress shopping. I found my dress right away and that was it. I didn't have that bridal gene.

This was me, too. I wanted it to be a surprise. She did come to the hall and the tasting before we booked. My DH and my MIL lived OOT, though.
To the OP, maybe you can suggest to your FSIL that your mom would love to do "something" for the wedding with her. That way, its more indirect. May not be the dress fitting but it could be something else.

My own mother only came with me 2x- the first appointment- which was jjust kinda for fun, and then when I thought I had found the one.
I went by myslef a few times, with my sister a few times, with friends...lol. I was indecisive

Yes, she ended up finding my wedding dress on the rack. I also went with a BM. My mother was not available and would not make herself available (she lives OOT).
My relationship with my mother is difficult to explain and I feel close to my MIL as she had no daughters and always wanted one.

Nope
I only really wanted my mom or my moh there (who didn't live locally so couldn't come). I ended up just going with my mom.
If FMIL had asked and really wanted to come, i don't think i would've minded, but she didn't.
However, she's highly opinionated so not sure i would've appreciated her comments!

I love my MIL but when I went shopping for my dress it was just me and my mom. No friends, SIL, just the two of us--it was our thing.
I did take her and SIL (DHs sis)to see the dress once I picked it.
If she did not have a daughter maybe I would have felt more inclined to take her.
She was not insulted or bothered at all.

I did and she and my mom came to one. Only my mom came to all the rest. MIL didn't seem interested so I never invited her again. I figured I was being nice b/c she doesn't have a daughter. ::shruggs::

I absolutely would have invited her but she lives out of the country. My mom would not have minded AT ALL. I love my MIL and think she would have enjoyed the dress shopping but not everyone has that type of relationship with their MIL.

No, we don't have that kind of relationship.
I think your mother is right, sending the bride would be intruding. If she wants your mom to come along, she will ask - but it should come from her, not your mom.
If your mom asks, then she might feel guilty and say yes, even if she doesn't really want her there, kwim?
