Re: Dinner Q for you ladies who work FT
your post made me laugh.
I am so frustrated because I don't like to cook and DH works such long hours that I hate to ask him to cook (even though he likes to).
I'm just soooooooo bored with the things I make!

Re: Dinner Q for you ladies who work FT
We cook basically 6x a week. We used to order out more, but we would rather eat our own food for less money.
We are very boring. chicken cutlets, stir fry, port cutlets, burgers, bla, bla, bla.

Re: Dinner Q for you ladies who work FT
I try and it goes in waves - I keep it simple during the week. I defrost over night and start marinading in the morning. I tend to make things that cook quickly like chicken, steak, omlettes, etc.
During the winter I will make a roast or casserole on Sundays that will leave left overs.
We usually go out to eat on Friday nights & Saturday we'll order in (or vice versa)
Exciting would be the opposite of the meals I prepare but it's cheaper then eating out or ordering in and it's healthier too.

Re: Dinner Q for you ladies who work FT
I cook every night but Friday; we usually go out/order in. Saturday night, DH treats me to one of his finely cooked meals. They're better than mine.

Re: Dinner Q for you ladies who work FT
i work from 7-6 in the same town we live - my husband works 40 miles away from about 9-7
since he has a long commute i offer to have dinner for him.
before i get home, i plan my menu on the internet and figure out what ingredients i need. then i stop at the store. when i get home, ill pour myself some wine or make a drink formyself, put on Extra or Access Hollywood, and make a nice dinner.
If i am stuck at work, I will pick up a grilled wrap or burrito or sushi.
DH doesnt expect home cooked every night, but if im not going to cook or if im late i will tell him in adance so he can pick something up
eta- i dont make super fancy meals. i make alot of fresh stuff but easy recipes. grilled pork chops or chicken, maybe steak or i will bake something easy. i buy alot of bagged salad and salad kits or corn broccoli or spinach, and ill make one carby side.
yestderday i bought stuffed pork chops from the supermarket butcher, i made a bag of spinach with garlic and a cucumber salad. it was easy!

UGH!! how do you do it??! I am usually so tried when I get home - especially on days I go to the gym after work
I cook about 3-4 days a week. Although there's only two of us I make large portions so we're usually eating the same thing at least twice. But I have to say I have a very flexible schedule and DH gets home at like 4:45, so if I'm not here he cooks.
For example, DH grilled 1 entire package of sausage and a package of chix thighs on sunday. I still haven't cooked this week (besides tortellini which is nothing!).
How about cooking things that will reheat well at night or (even in the morning) for the next days dinner?
Don't know if this helps any?

I usually cook about 4-5 nights per week and the other two or three nights were either ordering in or go to our parents house.

Re: Dinner Q for you ladies who work FT
even though I get home later- I usually do the cooking- but I always have DH "specials" available for him to cook: pizza, tacos and hamburgers- his specialities. I try to cook 4-5 times a week.

Re: Dinner Q for you ladies who work FT
I usually cook Mon-Thurs and go out of Fridays. I usually don't sit down to eat till 8:00, which I don't like but I am always doing something (laundry, cleaning up) before I start to cook so it's my own fault.

Re: Dinner Q for you ladies who work FT
I try to. DH likes to grill alot, so that lets me off hte hook with him. Since I have been trying to eat organic I do have to make myself dinner almost every night. Sometimes I will get something at the Deli at Whole Foods if I know I do not want to cook that night.

Re: Dinner Q for you ladies who work FT
I'm off for the summer and I still only cook 3-4 nights. We'll usually get take out one night, go to my in-laws one night, and then scrounge up something n the house the other night. When I'm working, I probably only cook 1-2 nights, but DH will also cook 1-2 nights a week.

Re: Dinner Q for you ladies who work FT
On a good week we cook 4 - 5 nights which includes one weekend day. DH and I take turns so that's how it gets done. But more often than not, we end up eating out because it's hard when both parents work full time and you have a young baby.

Re: Dinner Q for you ladies who work FT
I usually cook 4-5 times per week but lately we've had so many things going on. I hate the hassle of cooking and cleaning afterwards but I prefer that food over fast food. In the summer the meals are more easier - I grill a bunch of chicken and make chicken salad. That lasts about 2 days so it's really helpful.
