Do you EVER drink and drive?
Ok. All the drunk driver stories is causing me to really think. I know most would answer "no" to the topic question because who would ever willingly risk killing someone/themselves and/or jail by drinking and driving?
So here's a sample scenario. You're out with the girls (or the guys, whatever), spur of the moment planned (so there was no time to designate a driver). You're at...I don't know...TGIFridays. You have a margarita with your entree (just 1). Do you drive home? Do you deliberately wait a certain amount of time before leaving the restaurant so you feel like you can drive safely? Do you say no way am I driving, I'll call DH (or DW) to come and get me and I'll pick the car up later.
I know a lot of people (i.e. co-workers) that don't consider the above "drinking and driving." I think I kinda do consider it drinking and driving.
Thoughts?

Re: Do you EVER drink and drive?
If I had one drink with dinner I do not consider that drinking and driving.. and I highly doubt that my blood alcohol, after sitting at dinner for over an hour, would show an illegal limit if it were just one drink...

If there isn't a designated driver, I won't drink. Plain and simple.

I won't have more than 2 drinks and I will wait over an hour after finishing the last drink.

Re: Do you EVER drink and drive?
I dont consider having one drink with dinner and then driving home "drinking and driving" but I still go out of my way not to do it and will wait an excessively long time if I do. Usually I will not drink at all if I am the DD.

No. I'd have to drink to drink and drive and I am a non-drinker. It has nothign to do with being PG. I was a non-drinker before.

Re: Do you EVER drink and drive?
If I'm getting behind the wheel of a car, I don't drink. Period.
It has always scared me that there are other people out there on the roads who think that they can have one or two drinks and then drive somewhere, because they might wind up hurting me no matter how many precautions I personally take. And if you wound up hitting my car, I would sue the living %^@ out of you.

Re: Do you EVER drink and drive?
Yes (read on before making the nasty comments), and I would imagine that a majority on here have had A drink with a meal and then driven home... But bc of all these dicussions today, most will prob say no or not even respond at all for fear of being thrown under the LIF bus...
When I go out to dinner and happen to be driving (normally, im with DH and he always drives) we both can have a beer with our meals and be totally a-okay... Is that technically drinking and driving? I guess so, but we're not even buzzed in the least ... Now if you're feeding me 2 margaritas in under an hour... then we have a problem and of course, i'll wait it out

I think most people (well people who are not "non-drinkers") have driven at least once after 1 or 2 beers

Re: Do you EVER drink and drive?
Technically it is not illegal to consume alcohol and drive unless your alcohol level goes over .08%. So no, I do not consider 1 margarita to be "drinking and driving" so to speak.

Re: Do you EVER drink and drive?
I have no problem having a glass of wine with dinner and then driving afterwards. I've been known to have two and then driving as long as a few hours have passed - if I am out with the girls, have two glasses of wine, and we are there chatting and snacking for three hours, I am more than fine to drive home.

Re: Do you EVER drink and drive?
If I am driving I don't drink. So in that scenario I would not order the margarita. I don't have a problem going out and not drinking even if everyone else is, I'm not much of a drinker.

Re: Do you EVER drink and drive?
I have done the above scenario, but I don't see it as drinking and driving. Dinner usually takes a good hour and that's the approximate time it takes for alcohol to leave your system. Do people still consider it drinking and driving if my BAC was 0 at this point?
I'm also taller than most women, there are tons of variables to consider.

Re: Do you EVER drink and drive?
Thanks for weighing in everyone. I used to think that having 1 drink with dinner and then driving was acceptable (I've done it) until all the horrible drunk driving incidents started making the news, especially on LI. It just really really made me think (and a little scared) about having even that 1 drink.

except for the being tall part I agree with Erica.
I was just having this conversation with someone the other day. I'll have one or two drinks in the beginning of the night then switch to soda. Three or four hours (or more) after the 2nd drink and a meal I am heading home. I can't imagine the alcohol from 2 light beers has that sort of staying power.

Re: Do you EVER drink and drive?
Here's an interesting link to calculate BAC based on height and weight. What they don't factor in is whether you are a casual drinker or non-drinker (which is me) because when I kept upping the alcohol content to see how much before I'm legally drunk I would probably be in the emergency room getting my stomach pumped!

Re: Do you EVER drink and drive?
absolutely not. Have I ever, yes- back in the day when I was in college and buzzed, never full on drunk- i walked home alot.
Someone very close to me was killed by a drunk driver. Left behind a wife, a 4yr old daughter and 5 mo old twins.
It still saddens me to this day knowing that their dad will not be around for graduations, weddings, grandchildren, etc.
