Re: Do you go to the ped whenever your child is sick
I take my son. There are many things that we have caught very early on based on very subtle symptoms plus, by knowing when it was nothing or when it was something, we were able to keep my son home if his immunity was down. There were some illnesses that went around at school that we caught very early & treated before they got as bad as they could have. I'd rather save time or money by not doing something else even though the trips to the peds. can be hectic, especially with my schedule.

Re: Do you go to the ped whenever your child is sick
short answer is no. i go more frequently when they are less than 1, because i want lungs checked out, ear infections, etc. Once they can communicate a little more, I don't find it as necessary. if they have a lingering cough that sounds deep, prolonged high fever, or aren't their typical sick self, I will go, or at least call.
last year they had recurrent ear infections, so i was there every 2 weeks for months because they had a constant cold and thus constant ear infection. my older one got a stomach bug, and though it was short lived (one afternoon), she was most definitely not typical sick self and i was extremely worried. turned out she needed an IV after only 2 big episodes of vomiting because she could not keep even a drop of water down. she was like new after the iv. i took my little one in december because she had a weird rash after having a cold a few days. (turned out to be nothing).

Depends on the kid.
Our DD with Chronic Croup we know how to treat it and if we need the steroid sometimes we go in and sometimes they just call in the prescription for us. But we know they signs symptoms and what to do.
With our other DD with severe airway and breathing issues. Anytime she's having a hard time breathing we bring her in since we're never sure if its something that meds and the nebulizer can help or if she needs to be hospitalized.
