Well that is a harsh statement. Just because your company expects someone to stay late/come in early in order to get raises, doesn't mean that is the norm.
At my company they do not want us there early or late without it being authorized. There are promotions and raises.

I do.
I finish my work and have no reason to stay unless asked/special projects come up.

Some days I book at 5 and others I stay till 6, 7, whenever. It depends on what I need to do at the office and what I have to do outside of work.
Same for me. I try to time manage my day so that I can go home at 5:00pm. I do stay when needed though, so I don't always run out at 5:00pm.

Always. On a rare occasion Ill stay late. The depts here are so intertwined and dependent on one another that once people start leaving you cant really do anything anymore anyway. So for the most part, yes and 4:59 I have keys in hand and does the majority of my office.

wow, thats unnecessary. Thats also highly dependent on company culture. No one in my company, even the execs feel that way. They are also gone by 5.

i never used to. i was a total workaholic and usually stayed much later than closing time. but now that we have dd, i will be out of there on the dot to go pick her up from daycare and spend every precious remaining second of the day with her.

As often as I possibly can.
If I have to stay late, I do. But when I have the opportunity to leave right at 5:30, I plan my day accordingly and leave on time.

I don't really have set hours....just 40 hours a week. Some days I work 9-5, some days 10-6, other nights I'm in until 8. Depends on the situation. But if I work overtime one day, I can come in late or leave early another day that week.
Same here. My hours are all over the place. I rarely leave on the dot though..esp. now since we are short of staff.

I agree. My company does not allow you to work beyond our regular hours unless its authorized ahead of time. They are very strict about it. Every company is different. Im in at 7:30 and out by 4:30 95% of the time.

almost never...
My job isn't a 9-5 job, most people work on a 10-6 schedule...BUT you would be hardpressed to see people at 10 am (I am usually in by 9:50). People roll in at will....I have noticed at this place that the place is usually clear by 6:30.
I often work late on a project basis and have often worked around the clock.

Every second I am at work is a second lost with my son/ DH.
So unless Im in the middle of a project or something needs to be finished by like- yesterday, Im out at 5pm.

I work in a preschool, and my hours are 8:30 - 3:30. I typically get in before 8, but I like to check my email and eat breakfast before getting to work. I try to get out by 3:30 b/c traffic gets worse as the rush hour starts, but will stay late at times, and often bring work home with me.

i don't have a quitting time. staff works 9-5. i work generally until 7 or 7:30, unless i have something that has to be done outside of work.

I like to be early and start my day on my own terms, but I definitely do not like to leave late.

That statement was a little obnoxious.
I work 8:30-4:30 everyday and when I'm at work, I actually work. There are people I work with that are in the office from 8:30-6 and BS all day long. The hours you put in really have nothing to do with whether or not you do your job well and if you are entitled to a promo or not.

Just because someone leaves one time doesnt mean they dont deserve a promotion. 
I know people who produce a lot 9am to 5pm and leave on time....I know TONS of people who waste time all day but "stay late" to make it look like they are working so hard.
