Re: Do you wish you had kids earlier/later?

same as you, I had ds1 at 30 ds 2 at 32. we planned them both.

some of our friends don't have kids yet. they travel every where (italy, swiss alps, crazy places!) and have more money than we do LOL but i'm glad to be done by this age. I want DH and I to be able to retire early , for this to happen we needed to be done having kids by now, I'm 33 and DH is 30.

I never see any of my friends, especially the ones that do have kids, so don't base any decisions on what friends are doing!!

Re: Do you wish you had kids earlier/later?

When I was younger I wanted to be married by 25, have my first at 28 and my second at 30. I met DH at 26, got married two weeks after I turned 28. I had DS at 29 and DD at 32. While it was not what I planned, it was perfect for me. Career wise I am not where I expected to be for myself and feel like I need to figure out that aspect of my life.

Re: Do you wish you had kids earlier/later?

I had DS at 34 and if all goes well with this pregnancy I'll have #2 at 35.

I actually wished I had had children earlier...mostly because of energy. In my 20's I was an energizer bunny...but now in my mid-30"s I want everything to be calmer and more relaxed. I give kudos to all the moms that did this in their 40's...I can't even imagine doing this at 40. My mom had me at 39 and now I tell her everyday that I don't know how she did it.

Re: Do you wish you had kids earlier/later?

33 when AJ was born

TOO YOUNG!! hahaha Chat Icon

I thought I was crazy for having a child at all, to be honest. No, I don't imagine any earlier would have settled well with me.

I'm 35 now and wonder why I'm the "old lady" with the moms at AJ's school. Seems everyone else is having kids in their 20s. Brave souls. Also in TX its just easier to do so. So hardly anyone is waiting to 30s (or so it seems to me). In NY anything under 33 would have bankrupted me. Heck AJ nearly did anyway and it was a major reason she's an only child.

So no.. I don't think earlier or later. I originally wanted a boy only. I got a girl, so I was thinking of having #2 hoping for a boy. I gave up that idea too. AJ is enough.

Re: Do you wish you had kids earlier/later?

35 when I had my first and to be honest, I know it's late but I still feel like I wasn't 100% ready in my head.
I'm very immature. Chat Icon
If I could have started later I would have...but let's face it- starting at 40 by choice is not really the ideal situation.
So I bit the bullet and said- it's time to grow up!! Chat Icon

Re: Do you wish you had kids earlier/later?

No- perfect timing for us.

I did not get married until I was 34. I had DS #1 at 35 and DS #2 at 37. DH is almost 4 years younger. I was lucky that I got pregnant easily both times.

Would I have had more energy in my 20's? Maybe. But both DH and I were immature in our 20's and were nowhere ready: emtionally, mentally or financially to be parents. Most of my friends married/had kids before me, but that is fine with me.

The only drawback was that I had to have my kids a little closer in age. I also say that if I started younger, I maybe would have had 3 kids. But this is doubtful, anyway. Very happy and blessed with what I have, and when I had it.Chat Icon

We had our first at 30. Considering I didn't know I wanted children until I was around 28/29 it was perfect timing for us Chat Icon

Re: Do you wish you had kids earlier/later?

it's odd.

I wish I was chronologically younger, but I wish I had the same amount of time and experiences in my life.

I needed everything that happened to happen before he was born, but b/c I am going to be 36 in May, it's pretty much a forgone conclusion that he will be an only...and if everything would have happened sooner, we may have entertained another more seriously (or rather, with more possibility)

sounds weird I guess. but that's how I feel.

I wish I WANTED kids earlier. Dh and I were going to be CF. We wanted us to/for us. Then we wanted kids, then there were some getting pregnant issues. 2 years later, age 33 i get pg. I wanted to be done by 35. Now we are winging it for #2. at this rate, it may never happen. Some days im fine with it, others not so much. I really dont want to be doing diapers at 40. Im tired now at 35.Chat Icon

Why would your age prevent you from having another?

36 isn't too old to have another baby!

Totally think it is a geographic thing.

I have a co-worker from TX and he said most of his friends got married right after college and had kids by age 25. He's one of the last to not be married or have kids.

it's too old FOR ME. Chat Icon I watched my mom do it. I don't want to. besides, we are not ready for another now, and I'll be pushing it to 38 or so. my anxiety will not allow me a calm pregnancy. every test. every blip. I'll be a nut.

I don't wish I had them earlier but I do wish I was younger now if it makes sense.

I had them when I was 33 & 35. I wouldn't want to change who I had them with or give up the life I had in my 20s but I do wish I was in my early 30s now with them.

I want more energy & more time with them but I'm not sure if I had them earlier if I would have had the patience & the vast amount of appreciation I do have.

Re: Do you wish you had kids earlier/later?

I had DS #1 at 29, I'll be 31 with DS #2. That is perfect for me. My mortgage will be paid off almost by the time my kids go to college. By the time they graduate from college and hopefully move out, I'll be 53 and DH will be 57. Young enough to still really enjoy our later years! And DH and I were married for 7 years before we had DS. We enjoyed our married life together before kids, we travelled, it was great. And now we are loving our time raising our family.

Re: Do you wish you had kids earlier/later?

I was 28 when I had DD. Hopefully for #2 I will be 32 or 33...if we go for #3 I would have to try right after #2 since I would like to be done at 35 so for that reason sometimes I wish I was younger BUT...I try to think of it like this. Age is just a number...your life experiences and how you feel is what is important. There are plenty of moms in their 20s that are more stable than moms in their 30s and there are plenty of moms in their 30s that have more energy than moms in their 20s. It's all relative.

Re: Do you wish you had kids earlier/later?

I would have preferred to have my kids younger (I'll be 40 in 2 months).

However, I didn't meet my DH until I was 33, and then it took us 2 years of IF treatments to get pregnant with DD.

I was 2 months shy of 38 when DD was born and was 39 when DS was born.

Pregnancy and parenthood has definately taken a toll on my body, I just don't have the energy I did when I was in my 20's and early 30's.

Re: Do you wish you had kids earlier/later?

I had ds at 33 and ttc #2 now at 34.. dh wouldn't get off his arse and propose any sooner so it is what it is.. I would have liked to start sooner because I would have liked to had 4 but if it keeps taking me this long to get preggo then 2 may be it for us.. hopefully

Had my first at 26 and my second at 28. I think it was the right time for us. It also gives us some time to space out the next ones that we hopefully have!

Re: Do you wish you had kids earlier/later?

Our plan had been to wait until I was done with my Master's but that didn't happen. It's just super-hard now trying to finish. That is the only think I regret (not really a regret, but Ic an't think of a different word) about our "timing".
