IMO, regardless of the OP's motives or mental state, the damage has been done. People will hesitate to give to a poster in need, regardless of how long they've been here, because of the situation. Everyone will be considered suspect and viewed as trying to only get free stuff. It's also left people hesitant to post that they may need something because they don't want to be viewed as a scammer.
While it's prudent to be skeptical on the internet, this is also a board frequented by mostly locals. When a fellow poster is in need, the natural inclination is to step up and help them out. Many people here have been posting together for years, they've met in real life, become friends. There have been numerous LIF get togethers, both formal and informal. It's more than just a place of online anonymity. What the OP is accused of doing is breaching that trust. Whether or not it is true doesn't matter because NO ONE will ever be able to just freely donate something without first thinking "is this a scam?" even when the information is put up by LIF themselves. And that, to me, is the real tragedy here.

To me that screams of someone who has no real understanding. She could have easily just made another account with a different fake name to vote for her contests.
But to create a fake name/fake account/husband's account (who I believe predates FB), shows manipulation.
Are you trying to say that she doesn't have a real understanding of contest rules? or right & wrong? I think it's clear that creating a fake account to win a contest shows an understanding of the rules & how to disregard them.

you have to wait 30 days or 60 days to win again. Depending on the prize. USUALLY anything over $500 you need to wait 90 days. Anything under that it is USUALLY 30 days. They should let you know. Keep track of it(yes I mark it on my calender) especially if it is something i really want. BE PREPARED TO GIVE your ss# these prizes , if a big one, will give you a tax form at the end of the year!!!

I disagree. Several months ago there was a poster on the IF board who was looking for free meds and then reselling them for a profit. It has not nor will it stop me from donating my meds to those who need/request them.
I don't let one rotten apple spoil the bunch.
And since everyone is up on their soap box here, I think it is mean to to gang up on somebody. I think it is mean to bully somebody. I think it is mean to pick on somebody. Deserved or otherwise.
I typically stay away from crap like this but this thread really has bothered me. There has been so much shit in the last two months alone.

I think a lot of us agree that Janet has done wrong. In fact probably almost every single person agrees, and she wouldn't get any help here, thats a given.
What we don't agree on is beating the dead horse.
There is no satisfaction to me in belittling someone continually till they hold up the white flag. I get nothing from that. I am secure enough to know that karma's a ***** and whatcomes around goes around.
I don't see not one person saying Janet was 'innocent' , but what many are trying to say is that there is a decent way of behaving , a more mature way to handle things that does not involve making fun of people, that many could stand to learn a lesson about. Because while it might be funny, and I am sure many of us chuckled to ourselves....that's the thing.....We keep it to ourselves because thats human decency and we want to teach our children that and because as I said, what does anyone get out of the beating down?
WHEN is enough enough? And I say that out of curiosity. If this was a true PSA...watch out for this person , I would understand, but it appears to be for a laugh only.

I was going to post similar yesterday...as much as the OP may be wrong in some of her actions..the thread came across as bullying to me too. Its like two wrongs dont make a right.

Without knowing her medical history you just ask to feel sorry for her because she has "issues". I am not sure this is any better.
i think its called "the benefit of the doubt" ... no one really understands 100 percent what is or has transpired in this posters life. how is this condescending? i agree but I search for the good in people. maybe that is my problem.

The responses on this thread are astounding. Especially the dyslexic comment, and the subsequent laughs about it. Having a family member with dyslexia, who often transposes things, this is disgusting to me. What's even more disgusting, is that LIF has allowed this thread to remain. A thread that is flat out bashing someone over and over. And don't tell me they haven't read it, because one of them was on here last night posting.
Bargainmama, I agree entirely. I think when you add up the CONTENT of the posts, the grammar and history, I tend to think there is much more to this than someone simply looking to scam. Not everyone has the same level of intelligence or ability to understand. But again, please note that I AM IN NO WAY saying that I am right or know anything more than anyone else. I am just commenting on this is what screams out to me when I read the posts and what has transpired. I am NOT defending her. But I am being open minded based on what I see and read about the possibility of who Janet is. I am simply trying to understand the truth of what is going on here b/c I want to understand why some LIFers feel so wrong and duped.
I would like to know more I guess. What has Janet done that has wronged so many LIFers? I am genuinely curious to see what is so bad when all I see is someone who maybe doesn't have the same level of thought process as others and also may not have the RESOURCES that many of us have in times of need (emotional, financial, etc).

Janet was adopted, info she herself made very public, Janets birth Mother was on LIF off and on for a while. My personal opinion was that she was a bit mentally challenged in some fashion. The above post was a quote of something that Janet's birth Mom posted on one of her threads years ago, she posted a pic of Janets real brother and sister as well in an attempt I guess to cheer Janet up for whatever was her issue that day. The 'mom' ,. the pictures etc have been used as comedy ever since.

That's what you wanted right? To be validated with a laugh? That you are so funny that you searched for a post from years ago , saved for perfect comedy moments like this one, to be whipped out and laughed at?

Janet was adopted, info she herself made very public, Janets birth Mother was on LIF off and on for a while. My personal opinion was that she was a bit mentally challenged in some fashion. The above post was a quote of something that Janet's birth Mom posted on one of her threads years ago, she posted a pic of Janets real brother and sister as well in an attempt I guess to cheer Janet up for whatever was her issue that day. The 'mom' ,. the pictures etc have been used as comedy ever since.
Yeah. This was a low blow. And very sad to me. Despite what someone did, or what people think someone else deserves. These are sad people living very sad lives. Plain and simple. Whether they have hurt or scammed others. These are still people who have suffered and continue to suffer.
