Janet was adopted, info she herself made very public, Janets birth Mother was on LIF off and on for a while. My personal opinion was that she was a bit mentally challenged in some fashion. The above post was a quote of something that Janet's birth Mom posted on one of her threads years ago, she posted a pic of Janets real brother and sister as well in an attempt I guess to cheer Janet up for whatever was her issue that day. The 'mom' ,. the pictures etc have been used as comedy ever since.
The post was made when Janet mentioned she was afraid to go into the city. Her birth mom posted the above to "calm her fears".
By the way, my posting of the contest rules, etc. was to point out to those that felt we were bashing someone who was lacking in some way, that didn't know better. It was to point out that it is not the case. I wasn't trying to open the door to go search Janet (or her mother's) posts for fodder.

janet like everyone says life goes on you have to live life to te fullest and not let fear get in your way i dont remember if i ever told you this when i was 10 years old when i was strangled and attacked by a man when i lived in lower manhattan with my parents and i was sitting in front of my building and this man grabbed me and dragged me in the building and strangled and tried to rape me i was lucky that i fought him and got away and i still go out late at night the streets in the city are safe i know you are afraid but you cant let fear get in your way i will be there to get you to radio city maybe we can go to central park and just walk around my sister doris lives right there 2 blocks from central park and her and her son always go out at night   love mom heres your borther and sister to help cheer you up
so what was the relevance to posting this then? pretty immature and childish............were you trying to get a laugh with this? because it totally was not funny at all. i have never really seen you post, and so initially i thought you were saying that you were practically raped. could you explain your reason for posting?

I thought this thread was bad before. Now it's really horrible. :(
I don't know anything about Janet scamming people, but I don't care about her contests. More power to her when she wins. And maybe people would say this is the reaction she wants, so it's therefore invalid, but I just feel sorry for all she's been through and I would not trade places with her for all of the money in the world.

Two wrongs don't make a right, but I can see if you were swindled and mislead by what you believe to be a local con artist, hit in the wallet or heart, I can see where you truly don't give a **** what you say.
FROM what i know, Janet's not on a Bernie Madoff level but that's not to say people may not have a justified reason to feel swindled, disgusted or want to hit below the belt.

I don't know Janet from a hole in the wall. I vaguely remember the post "calling her out", but this has gotten vicious and ridiculous- particularly if you truly believe she is mentally/emotionally incompetent in some way. I'm surprised this hasn't been pulled yet.

I'm not a frequent poster, but I've been reading these boards for years. However, the bullying mentality that has pervaded recently is truly disgraceful and disgusting. To those of you who seem to find joy and humor in ridiculing someone who clearly has some sort of disability, don't you have anything better to do?? This is CLEARLY bullying and I find it painful, sad, and pathetic to witness. Given the current social climate surrounding bullying, I, for one, will be taking a stand and stepping away from this environment.

I don't follow every story on this site, but I know enough to find Janet pretty distasteful. Disabled or not, she was a bit of a con artist and nobody likes to be conned.
In response, the LIF community has once again displayed their moral outrage and superior sense of integrity by... uh.... being even bigger assholes than the OP  Just another day on LIF.

Truly disgusting. I wish we had ignore lists on this board. I wish the admins/mods cared more and didn't let this stuff get so out of hand. I don't know this Janet person at all, and I haven't been around here nearly as long as some of the other seasoned vets have... but I don't understand what this person could have possibly done that was so bad to warrant some of the mean-spirited comments on this thread?? I don't get it. From what I'm seeing on this thread, she won some contests or free tickets??? So?? What's the big deal??  Anyone care to enlighten those of us in the dark as to why some people are attacking her??
I'm with you JenniferEver... SOME of us understand what you were trying to say... The comments on this thread are just so mean and distasteful.. not only to this person, but others who suffer from disabilities in general If people who claim to know her are saying she "has issues" then why would you make fun of her?? And bring up her birth mom?? Such a low blow! I could be wrong since I don't know the backstory, but I honestly don't think anything this person could have done would justify some of the shit being shoveled on this thread!
And I disagree with AP (who most certainly is fake), it totally IS bullying!

I really disagree with this. So if someone goes somewhere by choice, it's ok if that individual is bullied/mocked/etc. just because the person chose to be there? So it's ok to bully in graduate school because graduate school is a choice? Just because people make a choice to be somewhere doesn't mean that all human decency flies out the window.
There's a difference between disagreeing with a person's actions/disliking a person and outright ripping him/her apart.

I happen to take bullying very seriously, and OK maybe on this thread it MIGHT apply (although I doubt it), so I wanted to express my opinion about the overuse of that term and look what's happened. Arent I being bullied now? This is so silly.
