Re: Ebola and the news
So I work with a woman who is a bit of a germophobe. Actually, she's a HUGE germophobe to the point it's crazy. She orders MONSTER sized bottles of hand sanitizer for the office, she carries a paper towel everywhere to open doors, she brings her own silverware for lunch rather than using the plastic disposable forks and knifes in the kitchen- and her reason is that she doesn't know who reached in the drawer and touched that plastic stuff before her. Really over the top,
Well yesterday she was in the office of a salesrep she supports and he sneezed. She went nuts on him saying he could have Ebola.
Then, the day before some poor soul must have been sick at work and didn't make it to the bathrooms we share with other companies in the building. So there was throw up in the hall near the men's room. Gross, and I don't want a stomach virus any more than the next person, trust me, but she went insane and said that it's not fair to the cleaning crew to have to be 'exposed" like that to possible Ebola. She called building management asking if they could get a hazmat crew in.
I predict her in a hazmat suit by Thanksgiving...
Now, I will say, without a second's apologize that THIS woman needs to speak to a therapist. Stat.

Just heard from a friend that works at JFK airport that a plane that landed from Liberia about 40 mintues ago had a D.O.A....Hoping it is not from Ebola.
Considering there a NO direct flights from that part of Africa to the US, this is absolutely bullish!t.
It was probably Liberia, Costa Rica.
There are no direct flights from Liberia to the US
It was real. It was from Nigeria.....
A plane from Nigeria landed at JFK Airport Thursday with a male passenger aboard who had died during the flight after a fit of vomiting — and CDC officials conducted a “cursory” exam before announcing there was no Ebola and turning the corpse over to Port Authority cops to remove, Rep. Peter King said on Thursday.
The congressman was so alarmed by the incident — and by what he and employees see as troubling Ebola vulnerabilities at JFK — that he fired off a letter to the federal Department of Homeland Security demanding more training and tougher protocols for handling possible cases there.
The unnamed, 63-year-old passenger had boarded an Arik Air plane out of Lagos, Nigeria, on Wednesday night, a federal law enforcement source said. During the flight, the man had been vomiting in his seat, the source said. Some time before the plane landed, he passed away. Flight crew contacted the CDC, federal customs officials and Port Authority police, who all boarded the plane at around 6 a.m. as about 145 worried passengers remained on board, the source said. “The door [to the terminal] was left open, which a lot of the first responders found alarming,” said the source. Rep. King called the protocol followed after the passenger died “alarming.”
“My understanding was that the passenger was vomiting in the seat,” King (R-LI) said.
“The CDC went on the plane, examined the dead body and said the person did not have Ebola,” King said.
“It was what I was told a cursory examination. The Port Authority cops and personnel from Customs and Border Protection were there, and they were told there was no danger because the person did not have Ebola,” King said. “But their concern was, how could you tell so quickly? And what adds to the concern is how wrong the CDC has been over the past few weeks.”

Nigeria only had a few cases and haven't had a new one in over a month.

I'm sure they know what someone looks like after a heart attack. I'm guessing they also know someone who dies from Ebola looks a lot worse.

Re: Ebola and the news
The person was seen throwing up throughout the flight. I have no confidence in them. They told the nurse it was ok to fly with a fever. The person the nurse talked to had to look in their manual. I am still not sure what an ebola death would look like

Ebola and the news
Just because someone pukes on the plane doesn't mean they have Ebola.... My mother pukes from take off to landing on every flight she takes. Like others said, if it was from Ebola there is no way he would have been able to physically get on a plane, and I don't mean because of security.

I think it's more than vomiting and I think a LOT of blood loss is involved from the way they are making it sound.
ETA- I would think they could tell by the visual appearance of the body that he didn't die of Ebola...though I suppose he could of HAD Ebola and died from a heart attack while vomiting....

Even if he DOESNT have ebola, it should be treated like he DOES until they definitively know from testing. Not just by "looking at him."

Actually one of the signs of a heart attack is nausea and vomiting. He could have had a heart attack. Or any number of other things. Ebola (from the descriptions) involves brusing and blood loss. I would imagine that a doctor could do a quick postmortem eval to determine if he had it or whether lab testing needed to be done.
I think more information is needed before anyone jumps to conclusions. I am sure those on the plane especially sitting near this man though must have been pretty scared.

Re: Ebola and the news
Oh My God. They couldn't have screwed this up more if they tried.
Now a hospital worker that was involved in the Duncan mess got on a carnival cruise ship. Carnival put her in isolation in her room but, the ship is anchored outside of Belize because Belize won't let the ship dock or any of the passengers off.

So…this confuses me. Belize is being aggressive with not letting people in, but we are not? Am I understanding this correctly?

And THIS is where my concern comes from. Not that I'll contract Ebola. But that the fear of people who may have come in contact with someone is going to spread and inconvience all of our lives! 1 man gave 2 women Ebola and now 130 ppl on a flight, and however many people are on this cruise ship are having their lives effected by this!
This worker did his/her job (I heard they handled a lab specimen from Duncan), and is now in isolation on a cruise ship and possibly ruined the cruise for everyone... That SUCKS!

Yes! I saw that movie as well as read the book The Hot Zone. Both gave me nightmares. Ever since, the worldwide spread of a disease like this has always been a serious concern of mine.
