Elevated FSH
I recently went in for my Day 3 Baseline Blood work. I just got a phone call from one of the RE at the clinic that I go to (because my RE is on vacation) and told me that my FSH seems to be elevated, it is at 12.7 when it should be under 10. Unfortunately, she told me that she can't discuss my case with me since she's not my doctor. Now, I have to wait for my dr. to come back from vacation (2/22) to discuss with her our next step. I did a really bad thing and googled "high FSH" and now i'm freaked out. I keep on seeing articles about high FSH = infertility. Some people say that some drs. don't even take patients with high FSH because it decreases the success rate of doing IVF or IUI. Is that true? Can someone shed some light for me? I don't even know what this correlates to. I'm going to drive myself crazy waiting until 2/22.

Re: Elevated FSH
First of all don't panic. Yes high FSH can mean diminished ovarian reserves and can affect your fertility. It doesn't mean you won't get pregnant. Plenty of women with elevated FSH levels have babies.
Your doctor will tell you everything when he returns. In the meantime, try to stay off the internet.

Re: Elevated FSH
i actually have an elevated FSH too.
I am 29 years old and my FSH is 10. I just started stimming for IVF and since i had a high FSH, they started me on a really high dose of Follistim. At my first appointment, they lowered the dose in HALF because I had so many follicles! My doctor kept saying, "i dont believe your FSH is as high as it is".
i am still stimming so i dont know the quality of the eggs, etc., but I just wanted to let you know what sometimes levels can be high for one reason or another, and it might not have anything to do with you getting pregnant. I searched google for MONTHS and made myself nuts over it. but, i also read success stories on here from many women who got pregnant with high FSH numbers. There is definitely hope, and try not to let it get you down! Believe me, i was the same way (and still am to a point bc my cycle isn't complete yet!) but there is definitely hope out there
good luck to you!

Re: Elevated FSH
Thank you ladies for your thoughts. I know searching the internet for answer in the meantime is not the best thing to do. It's just that when I don't have any answer or plans from the dr., I feel so nervous about the possibility of not able to have my biological child. I'm so glad for this forum! It is sort of a place for me to share my thoughts and to know that I'm not the only one.

Re: Elevated FSH
I also had high FSH.... 17. I too read a lot of information on line.
I cut back almost all my caffiene intake (use to drink at least 8 cups of tea a day), limited wine consumption to 1 - 2 glasses a week, started taking wheat grass and wheat germ every day and also started accupunture.
I got lucky and got pregnant two cycles after starting this regiment. Keep your chin up and think positively.
