Ever Have a Wisdom Tooth Extracted Without Being Put Out ?????

As dental phobic as I am, I am more phobic about being put out. I have a wisdom tooth that has been acting up from time to time and I think its time to get it pulled. Just wondering if anyone has ever done it without being put out and if so what your experience was like. Also, if you have done it with only novacine, was the tooth impacted???

Thanks, I'm just trying to mentally prepare myself.

I have never been put out at the dentist. I've had 2 wisdom teeth pulled. Had root canal and numerous fillings.

I'm deathly afraid to be put under, so I only get numbed up.

ETA: Tooth was impacted. And honestly the worst part was hearing everything.

I had a wisdom tooth pulled with just novacaine, and LOTS of it! it was fine. but mine was not impacted.

I had a wisdom tooth removed with just novicane. It was not impacted though. It was obviously more traumatizing than getting knocked out, since you see what they are doing and the tools going into your mouth. Maybe even see if you can close your eyes and put on some headphones. You'll be fine!

I had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out without being knocked out. I had lots of drugs, and it was fine. Someone could have punched me in the face and I wouldnt feel it

OMG i could've written that myself! i'm terrified and need to have 2 impacted wisdom teeth pulled!!!! i dont know what scares me more...the fear of being put to sleep...or the fear of being awake and feeling the pain and seeing whats going on!!!

maybe we can go together and be moral support!

I had two done while awake- one was impacted and one wasn't. All the pulling wasn't pleasant but I didn't do so well when I was put underm (threw up after) to have my two others removed. It was over fast. Good luck!

just be prepared that if you're not knocked out, you will hear it come out, since wisdom teeth are very close to the ear canal. it really freaked me out

do yourself a favor and bring your ipod and close your eyes! lol

Name the date . Although I know that being put out clearly scares me more. I can deal with the discomfort, noises, etc. I'm just afraid I'm going to have to "shop" for a dentist and/or surgeon who will do it this way. Oh well, we shall see.

Add me to the list. I'm so frightened of the dentist. And I've put it off for too long.

Now, when you're put out, do you still get drugs to avoid the pain? I mean, what if you wake up?

I had my last wisdom tooth out while I was 5 months pregnant, with just novocaine and no epinephrine (the tooth was not impacted, it was a straight pull). It was fine. I've actually never been put out at the dentist, and I've had lots of work, including an implant.

I had 4 impacted teeth pulled and was not put under. He didn't even asked if I wanted to. He just gave me a few needles and that was it. Didn't feel anything, but hearing the crunching sounds was kind of

I am dental phobic and just had a molar pulled and was put out for it - and good thing I was because afterwards at my follow-up he told me it was a very difficult extraction because I had long skinny roots! Thank God I wasn't awake for that is all I have to say.

I say go for the anesthesia.

I had one side done conscious and one side unconscious.

I definitely recommend being unconscious.

I was put out for my impacted tooth. Then had another wisdome tooth pulled (not impacted) and just had novacaine. I heard the noises, but, honestly didn't feel much.

2 tooth pulled, I wasn't knocked out and it wasn't even my appointment (I asked the dentist pulling my dw tooth about mine and he said we should take it out)

Its not a big deal. People make it out to be the most horrible thing ever. All you would feel is someone pulling or pushing your tooth. No pain during the process.

I had all 4 done at once - I just had lots of novicane, that laughing gas stuff and a really good oral surgeon !!

I have had all 4 taken out, while awake, with local.

My first set (right side) was a horrible experience...I had local and the gas. The dr didnt know what he was doing and it took a LONG TIME....I have had problems with my jaw/tmj ever since.

THe second set, I went to a different dr, and he got htem out in 10 mins, no problem.

Both sets were impacted, infected. I dont know if I would say be put out or not, depends how good the dr is. Ask around for someone who has an awesome oral surgeon and you should be fine.

Btw, I am an extreme case. Both times too I had facial numbness after the surgery (which is a risk with impacted wisdom teeth). The right side feelings never fully came back (again that dentist was the problem, he wasnt good enough to do this). The second set I had lip numbness afterwards but that great dr reassured me the feeling would come back since he didnt sever the nerve and the feeling did come back after the swelling went down.

I think the key is an AWESOME oral surgeon, not just some so so guy like my first one. He didnt know what he was doing and that was the problem IMO.

2 taken out (different years) with just local. Everything was fine and the last oral surgeon talked me through the whole thing. Not impacted..just deep cavities.

I have had 4 taken out at different times. I wasn't put out b/c I am afraid of needles in the arm. I only had Novocaine and Sweet air. I didn't feel any pain.

One time and I got sick on the Dr. when he pulled it out. I HATE the dentist and since that one time, I have always gone "out".
