Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
This is my first mother's day and like you, I really don't care that it is not going to be the three of us. In fact, I am looking forward to spending it with family!
We are going to have brunch with DH's family and then dinner with mine.
We also are celebrating my birthday this weekend too

Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
Honestly (and I know this is kinda selfish of me), I wish that it WOULD be just the 3 of us this year. My mom just moved out 2 weeks ago after living with us for 18 months, and I could really use some "us" time.

Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
We did share teh first two years, the first year, Christopher was only 12 days old and my parents came to our house. The second, we all went out to brunch
BUT my mom doesn't want to come out here and I don't want to go there, so now I go there on Saturday and Sunday is "our" day.
But I'm sure that'll change again
I send my MIL and SMIL flowers

Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
I dont care about sharing it at all... and if it involved other people, it wouldn't bother me. But, i dont really talk to my mother (try to keep it as minimal as possible lol) and MIL likes to have the day to herself to relax. So, it will probably end up just being the 3 of us.

Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
I am in the minority here as I refuse to "share" Mothers Day. We usually see my mom the week before or after for brunch, but the actual day, we go out for breakfast, just DH, me, and our kids. Then we spend the entire day together doing something as a family. Thats my perfect day
My first M-Day was a DISASTER running all over Gods creation to make everyone else happy for "their" Mothers Day. Once I realized that it was "my day", we started our own tradition and its been wonderful

The only thing I ever hate about sharing that day (or other special/holidays) is the traveling. So now that we get our families to come spend most holidays with us, I don't care I prefer celebrating with my family (and his), I see DH and the kids all the time

My very first Mother's Day in 2008 was spent with ME preparing brunch for my mom, my MIL & my SIL (whose own daughter lives in Wisconsin). I was a bit put off by the fact that DH planned nothing and when dinner time rolled around I was getting ready to order pizza because he never thought to plan anything. I managed to get one or two pics with DD that day after begging DH to grab the camera at the very end of the day (I look like hell).
My second mother's day in 2009 was spent talking to my mom on the phone while DH & I took DD to the NY Aquarium because that's what *I* wanted to do. I have a handful of pics.
This year I have no mother to spend Mother's Day with, as she died on March 20. I would give anything to have to share Mother's Day with her and be able to spend even 5 minutes with her. I'm hoping I can sleep the entire day and just ignore it.
I am so sorry for your tremendous loss... . They do get easier as time goes on, but it si a very hard day, and my heart goes out to you during this difficult time...

That's the thing... I don't want to do the traveling, and I'd be the one that has to.
Call me selfish, but I'm a mom now too, and my idea of a nice Mother's Day does not include sitting in hours of traffic with a screaming baby in the backseat.

Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
Honestly, my mom isn't here, she lives in Florida. And I've waited so friggin long for a Mother's Day that I DO want it to just be the 3 of us, at least for part of the day. If my mom was here, I'd probably feel differently. But, I'm going to my MIL's in the morning for a while, bringing bagels and stuff for breakfast, and then we're going to do something, just the three of us, in the afternoon.

Re: first time moms Mother's Day? and btdt's
It never dawned on me that I would have to share or not share the day with anyone else other than my child.... I never even thought about a spotlight. I just loved being able to sleep late, getting a mani/pedi, and spending the day as a mom with my baby!
