Florida’s DeSantis wants schools open in August....
If Florida goes back at full capacity do you think NY will?! Will other states follow?

Florida’s DeSantis wants schools open in August....
There is no reason not to. My kids are back at daycare. There’s no social distancing or masks and these kids are fine. The only different is we drop off/pick up at the vestibule not at the class and they close an hour earlier for more cleaning. All the schools need At this point is extra janitors and revved up cleaning protocols...

I want my kids back in school also. But I’m just curious if you think king cuomo will feel more pressure if other states send their students back? I’m going to be outraged if every other state (especially those on the uptick) are sending kids back and mine aren’t going!

I don't think Cuomo is influenced by what Florida does. Florida is considered one of the looser states. Some parts of upstate NY are already in phase 3. If #s don't increase, they will move to phase 4, which includes education, so I don't see how they will be able to say no school.
down here, who knows--NYC just moved into phase 1 last week.

I would not base my decisions off of the choices made by DeSantis and thankfully, neither will Cuomo.
If numbers remain where they are and/or decrease, opening schools is a definite possibility. It’s too soon to tell now.

I think we have a benefit of going back later - we can see what other states are doing and how it’s working/not working.
I think if the numbers stay down as things start to open up more (and in many cases people completely ignore social distancing) schools can and should open.

FL is seeing their highest rate right now after opening prematurely. The only decision I can see NY making based on FL is to keep schools closed longer because FL rates keep increasing.

I don't think Florida's decision on schools should have any bearing on NY's decision. School decisions should be based on facts and where the state is in transmission rate. If NY continues as it has been, then I see no reason to not open schools, regardless of what Florida does. Same goes if we see a spike over the summer. Keep schools closed, regardless of what Florida does.

Relax. I am not saying that people should not go back to work, I am saying that they need to take precautions and wear masks, and socially distance themselves. Have you seen what is happening down south? They are not requiring masks, no one is socially distancing, and they are paying the price for it. Now they are talking about reopening schools? WAY too premature. DiSantis is a jacka$$ and is pandering to Trump. He is not listening to science or facts. He is opening with hardly any limitations... everyone go out and take your chances!
Its irresponsible at best.

Mine too. Everyone I work with sent their kids back to daycare and/or have their older ones signed up for camp.
Not to mention the neighborhood kids are hanging out together every day for weeks now- it's a free for all.

Cuomo really hasn't done much better. And it's crazy that people really believe these government officials aren't making this political and solely relying on facts and science. The numbers they show us are skewed and far from accurate data or facts.

It's a free for all, you are exactly right. Parents are done and I don't blame them. We have no pool or backyard, so my son will be hanging out with whichever friends want to hang out. Yesterday, he went to meet his friend a block away and went to get donuts. He was so freaking Happy.
They need to open schools , full day and stop ignoring our youth. Prioritize education for once. My sons mental health & education has been really impacted by this. He has regressed, what about these other kids who need so much more services are going to the point of no return.
I wanted to throw something at my TV when I see Gov. Murphy talking about his meeting with Trump, and discussing a damn bridge. Why doesn't he put focus into school for next year that is going to start in less than 3 months. WTF is happening
