Re: Flu and 7 month old
Absolutely! I don't even know that I'd bring my 7 month old... or go at all. I don't care if that's dramatic. Better safe than sorry.
ETA: OMG- I can't believe they're taking her to a friggin superbowl party with the flu. When I had the flu I could barely get out of bed, let alone go to a party. Poor kid.

Flu and 7 month old
No way, no how would I be around someone who was just diagnosed with the flu, no less bring a 7 month old around it.

Flu and 7 month old
He ll NO!!!
I wouldn't be going and neither would DH. Your sister in law sounds like a winner for even thinking about bringing her daughter out while sick with the flu. I feel bad for your niece.

Re: Flu and 7 month old
that would be a big fat NO to the superbowl party for me. at 7 months old.. you dont want to risk it.
my DS was born in the height of swine flu season in oct 2009. I had to bring him to the ER one night and the doctor there was incredibly mean and said I should not bring a baby to the ER in the midst of it. (My pediatrician had sent us).

Re: Flu and 7 month old
They can't possibly be considering bringing a child to a party less than a week out from a flu diagnosis.
As a host I would tell them not to come. If they are still going then I would back out. As an adult I would back out, never mind having an infant to think about.

its safe to be around someone who is sick as long as they have been fever free for 24 hrs. No kissing, wash hands etc.
I'm sure they will clean the house prior to people coming over
But the child was just diagnosed so I highly doubt they'll be fever free by Saturday. If the parents are so laid back and still even leaning toward going I would probably not go unless they didn't. Who knows if they'll give the kid Motrin and call her fever free. Not to mention the baby is 7 months so is he vaccinated, have they had the second dose at least two weeks ago to give it time to work? Just not worth the risk for a football game.
Exactly and we aren’t talking about a cold or regular, we’re talking about the flu. Also like someone mentioned, what if the parents have it and don’t know yet. To be honest o wouldn’t even go with just me in mind, forget about a kid or an infant.
Not worth it and it’s just the two worse teams in the world playing - why risk getting sick over that.

Don't feel odd. Feel smart. How do THEY know they aren't contagious? Flu is very contagious. And if the parents catch it from her, they can be contagious without showing symptoms yet. Not to mention the flu is even MORE serious in such a young infant. No freaking way. And I am super laid back about things. Super. And even I say- no way.

I was surprised when my doctor pointed out that at 24 hours you're still somewhat contagious, it's just socially acceptable to be out spreading germs at that point. Makes sense since obviously there's no magic number where you go from contagious to not.
Dd is definitely the proof of this as she has a tendency to have one symptom, be fine for as long as 48 hours, and then start the real illness.

Re: Flu and 7 month old
Honestly if I was hosting, I'd be pissed. I wouldn't want them bringing a child with flu to my home. Flu lingers. You are usually sick for at least a week, and contagious for God knows how long after. I feel like I'd tell them not to come and if they were insisting I'd cancel the whole damn thing! So inconsiderate.

Considering the severity of the flu this year, I was wondering the same.

I know how you feel. I think my in-laws must think I'm a hypochondriac helicopter mom, but I don't care. When my ds was still an infant under 1, they wanted us to come over to my sil's when her while family had just had the stomach virus. No thank you. Sorry to miss it, but my kids' health comes first.

Re: Flu and 7 month old
My nephew is 10 months old and was in the hospital with the flu 2 weeks ago. It was awful and soo damn scary please stay home. You do not want risk your 7 month old getting it. My poor nephew lost so much weight, had to be on iv for days. 2 weeks later and he is just starting to feel better.

Ugh that is awful! Glad he is getting better.
To be honest at that age, every sickness is so scary. I remember when my DD was 6 months old- her first Christmas- family members came to my mom's with the tail end of awful stomach bugs. (we didn't know about it until AFTER the fact! ) and DD caught it. (actually EVERYONE did from pregnant women, to infants, to elderly people. Real nice Christmas gift! ) It was the first time she was ever sick really and I was so on edge the whole time. When they are that young, you just don't know what to expect and their immune system is still fragile. And that was just a stomach bug. I can't imagine this awful flu in a baby that young.
Bottom line- stay away at all costs!

Flu and 7 month old
If anything they should not be going cause everyone is going to get sick but since they sound very inconsiderate, I would absolutely stay home and so would DH. The flu is no joke especially for a little baby.

Re: Flu and 7 month old
I’d keep my distance. The flu is no joke. It spreads like wildfire. And I’m not sure about that 24 hour fever rule.
That being said, I’m not sure what can be done to reduce the spread of it. But with a 7 month old, I’d stay home. Why chance it?
