Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..
I took percoset in the hospital - only one at a time instead of the 2 at a time they offered me. I really didn't need it all that much. I would take one in the morning, one before dinner and then that used to be it. I took Advil when I was home.
I had a good c-section experience and was not in a lot of pain at all. I was definitely sore and took my time moving around, but overall I was ok.

I was also offered Percocet, but just took Motrin. I have a sensitive stomach and didn't want to deal with those issues. I just tried to stay ahead of the game by taking it every 6 hours on the dot so it was in my system. Then, I didn't take anything when I left the hospital.

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..
I took percocet for a day or so and I hated the way it made me feel, so then I just went to motrin and that was fine. The day aftervis the worst..then it gets a lot better

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..
I took motrin 1 day and that was it....honestly I think everyone reacts differently to surgery and each case is so different.
I didn't feel any pain so I didn't take anything else. I was sore, so I took it slow and tried to walk asap after the surgery....

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..
I only took Motrin but it was every six hours. I had to ask for it...the night nurses would not give it to me automatically I had to remind them. I was still in pain with the Motrin but it was bearable.

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..
I only took Motrin. I had taken Percoset in the past and it made me soooo nauseous. I didn't want to risk it b/c I was throwing up so much from the C-section anyway- I just stuck with the Motrin. It sucked, but I just tried to focus on my DD

I think because I had gone an entire nine+ months without taking ANY medication at all - that my body was totally receptive to the motrin. It was just all I needed. Don't get me wrong - I took pain meds for the first two days though.

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..
I never really felt any pain. I was a little uncomfortable after the pain meds from the surgery wore off but I never had pain. I took Motrin three times only because I felt like the nurses really pushed it. I took Motrin twice when I got home but that was because the two flights of stairs that I had to walk up were a little tough.

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..
I took the pain meds 3 times a day in the hospital and not at all once I got home.
I didn't really feel like it did much for me so I didn't want to take it.
I didn't even really take the motrin either...again I didn't feel like is lessened my pain at all.

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..
I took the percocet for a few days but I was in a lot of pain. I remember asking A MILLION times if it was okay if I took these because I am breastfeeding and all the nurses said yes. I even asked DH to ask the pharmacist and she said that it was ok but now I'm feeling really worried that I harmed my DS... I feel so guilty I should have just sucked it up

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..
I had a c/s with my first. I took nothing but the 800mg of motrin they offered for the first 2 days. Since it was my first, I was able to rest the full time I was in the hospital and I won't lie, it did hurt, especially when I laughed or coughed, but in the end, I got through it.

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..
I cannot take narcotics. I have an adverse reaction to them. And I knew before I had my c-section. So, I could only take Motrin.
Won't lie. I had a very hard recovery. I was in so much pain. I was BFing and just lifting myself up from a laying down position was very painful. I felt I was ripping my insides every time I got up.... ie. every 2 hours to BF.
Motrin did not cut it. And because I was in a lot of pain I really think it did alter my way to recovery.
It took a good 2 weeks before I felt I could let my DH go back to work. But by the time it was time for him to go (2.5 weeks), I finally felt better to move and go to walk outside.
I would tell anyone, if you can take the drugs.....TAKE THEM!!!
But if you plan on BF, then I would ask which one are safe for BFing.

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..
Motrin only; it was enough to help me control the pain, and I was in denial/shock! I never thought I'd have a c-section so the idea of needing to be on meds was totally foreign to me. They offered me percoset on numerous occasions, but I felt the motrin was sufficient. However, I definitely needed the motrin!

#1-not even a motrin. painfree from the start. night of csection, i got dressed and walked to do cafeteria with dh. nurses flipped when i got back. never any pain.
#2...pain and lots of it. maybe different dr? on percocet for like 3 weeks! 10 days before i could stand up straight. hurt to lay, hurt to sit. every step i took, something felt like it was pulling apart in my stomach

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..
I think right through IV after the C-Sect. they gave me Morphine but I could be wrong...then I took Percocet but I was very fuzzy from that so I remember only taking that at night and Motrin during the day...I think by the time I came home from the hospital i was on Motrin only but only b/c I knew I couldn't be fuzzy taking care of DD. In the hospital @ night she went to the nursery all night and I didn't breast feed so that was why too.

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..
I never took percocet or any narcotic before having my 1st c-section, so I had no idea whether I'd be one of those who gets nauseous from it. However, I saw my DH get VIOLENTLY ill and also get really loopy/drugged when he took it after a surgery. I just could not picture myself vomiting with those staples in my abdomen.
Honestly, the Motrin took a nice edge off the pain, and it really only hurt when I moved around, so I would just suck it up when I was getting out of bed and walking around. When I was just hanging out in bed, I felt fine anyway.

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..
Im allergic to all meds with coedine.. so I could ONLY TAKE MOTRIN!! Really I dont' know the difference..
But I did notice that my roomate in the hospital walked around better and A LOT sooner than I did.
My recovery was DEF slower....Standing up straight took a long time for me!!

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..
I took some prescription meds in the hospital including Motrin. One of them made me throw up, so I only asked for Motrin after that. They gave me prescription to go home with but I never filled it. Took regular OTC Motrin, and I was fine.
I think the Motrin they give you in the hospital is stronger then OTC.

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..
I took one percoset the day after DS was born and it made me feel SO out of it and loopy. I was in pain, sure, but Motrin took the edge off, I walked a lot, and within 4 days I felt much better.

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..
i feel like i usually have a high pain tolerance
they gave me percocet the first day and i was feeling OK! the second day, i decided to try motrin and i felt like total sshitt. it could have also been that it was day 2 and nothing was going to make me feel great
i stuck with percocet in the hospital and didnt take much by the time i was home. all of the different meds (vitamins, stool softeners, perc, motrin etc etc etc and a combo of not eating much) made me so sick that i couldnt keep anything down when i was home. i was ok with nothing but an occasional tylenol.
but at the hospital, the motrin did NOTHING. i needed the percocet every 4 hours like clockwork
