Getting dress for a house of worship
we went to a christening today. we saw someone in this short short white skirt. if she would've bent down, u could see everything. then on your top, she was hanging out. come to realize she was the mother of one of the babies being christening. don't people show respect when they walk into a house of god

Re: Getting dress for a house of worship
yeah- it's at every house of worship, no matter the religion. people dont show respect anymore.
i could tell you some really funny and obnoxious stories of how i've seen people- adults and children-dress for temple!

Re: Getting dress for a house of worship
No, some people don't. We were at my nephew's christening (I was the godmother ) and there were people there dressed completely inappropriately.
One girl was wearing cut-off booty cutter denim shorts with a cami.
But then again she was part of the same family who thought it was appropriate to hoot and holla when their family was up being baptized.
They were truly the picture of class.

Re: Getting dress for a house of worship
that's not right.
i mean, dressing in an inappropriate manner in the general public is one thing, but when you are in a church - AT your child's christening - it is disrespectful to be that way.

Re: Getting dress for a house of worship
Yeah...it's very weird, isn't it?
Since we moved South, we've noticed that people here still get dressed in their "Sunday best" to go to church. So when we started going, we dressed up.
Well I guess Catholic churches are the same here as they are in NY--we saw a 14 or 15 year-old girl with her parents, and the length of her denim skirt left NOTHING to the imagination.
I gave her parents dirty looks

The problem is she sees nothing wrong with it. to her she was dressed perfectly fine.
I think its sad.

Re: Getting dress for a house of worship
i have more stories! last year at a bat mitzvah, one of the older sister's cleavage was shall we say "bubbling over" so before the service, i politely went over and asked if she would wear a tallit during the service. OMG! and dont get me started on the length of her "dress"

Re: Getting dress for a house of worship
I wish people still dressed up for church but they don't..it is really sad that every summer there needs to be a note from the pastor about "appropriate dress for church"

my girlfriend lives in belle harbor and while everyone knows it is a beach community, the priest had to tell people not to wear flip flops and beach attire

Re: Getting dress for a house of worship
I will always remember being 8 or 9 and how appalled my nana was at the girl who went up to receive communion with her hands in her pockets!
We used to really dress for church- now, not so much but I still don't wear jeans when I go, which is not often.

Of course, the other side of the coin is to not go at all. I honestly don't think about what people do and don't wear to a House of Worship for the specific reason of at least they go.....so many people have no religion or morals these days that I'm just happy to see people in the pews no matter what they are wearing.
As long as it isn't me, what difference does it make?
