ghi ladies and ivf
so i spoke with Dr.B's office today about starting the process of ivf
they told me to come in next month on cd 3 and thats how they begin..
i asked if this is the appt when we talk about the process and the cost etc etc
she goes..well u have ghi so i can tell u how much it will be..3500 for the whole ivf cycle
can anyone tell me what does that include?
i assume this does not include freezing any extra eggs? how much extra is that?
or if we needed icsi that is not included?
i am just bummed bc i thoughtit was going to only be like 1500..so between this and all the meds this stinks

i would email dr. b about it or call sandra tomorrow. i haven't done IVF (yet) but i would think they should be able to tell you exactly what your money is paying for. also, i believe there's a separate fee for anesthesia too.

I believe it depends on your particular plan, how many IUIs you did and if you have a diagnosis. gHI did not approve IVF for me b/c we were unexplained and I only did 2iuis before moving onto IVF. Hope you have better luck with GHI!!!

First of all, I was in the waiting room when you called! I heard Kim say, "Hi Gina," and was wondering if it was you or the Gina who was in the waiting room with me who we confirmed was NOT you. 
You need to find out the specifics for YOUR GHI plan. They usually assume that it's the city plan. If you are, she probably gave you the right info. In my case however, I have GHI, and NO IVF coverage, so everything is OOP.

hahah so funny! yes that was me! i was actually calling at first bc i am having a wisdom tooth pulled and my doc needed a letter faxed by them saying i was off blood thinners fro x amount of days
but while i had them on the phone figured i would ask lol
so funny! everytime i am in the waiting room i think,so who is lif here

It seems like all GHI plans are different.. but from what I understand, the freezing and ICSI is extra. ICSI for me was 1k extra....... and freezing I'm actually not sure what it was...
ETA: I was also surprised by extra costs..... I thought it was going to be one flat rate and then there was the ICSI .. the freezing.. the meds... the acupuncture twice a week.... it all adds up. Eh if it works, it was worth it!! (of course I knew meds and acu weren't going to be included though ) but still ........... it just all keeps adding up....
I feel bad complaining though because at least I have coverage!

HI, dont know if this will answer your questions but check out this link:

it is the medical policy for EmblemHealth/GHI/HIP for assisted reproductive technologies. Of course it depends on your plan but if you scroll to the bottom there is a limitations/exclusions section and that is basically what they will not cover no matter what plan you have.

He wracks you over the coals with "out of pocket" fees that costs in the thousands. He is new to Infertility. GO TO THE BEST.
East Coast is Amazing.....I got pregnant after Dr. B couldn't. TRUST ME.
IN BOX ME A MESSAGE AND I'll TELL YOU MY STORY>
I CAN ALSO TELL YOU THE DIFFERENCES WITH INSURANCE> GHI will let you go to OUT OF NETWORK doctors.
Just becaue you had 3 failed IVFs doesnt mean he's awful.

East Cost in my opinion is the worst clinic.....just go on ivfconnections and search for it......everyone says to run away from it as fast as you can......sorry but thats my opinion....
DrB is great and this is coming from somone who HAD THE BEST (yes tried #1 & 2 clinics in the US) and I still consider him to be the best IF doctor....

Alright sweetie first off he doesn't use AFS anymore but that's irrelevant Dr.B has worked miracles for many women on here. Just because he didn't work for YOU doesn't make him "awful", as you put it. You are entitled to your opinion of course but to throw out there how terrible his practice is, is a pretty bold move. Perhaps he wasn't right for YOU and that's fine.... but you really should watch how you phrase things on a board where he's flooded with supporters and women who would not have had their babies without his help.

he hasnt used AFS in months... get your facts straight before you start badmouthing..
for the record i did IVF with dr. B and AFS. i had a textbook cycle - 18 eggs, all fert. i got pregnant on the first try and now have a 4 month old DD thanks to him. i also have 8 perfect frosties waiting.
not every dr is for every patient, but there are more people on these boards that love dr. B and have babies thanks to him so good luck on your mission to trash him..

Just to add, I dont know what "wracks you over the coals" means but I did a lot of IUIs with Dr B, all out of network with GHI and have had absolutely NO problems. I'm 7 weeks pregnant right now thanks to him. You really came to the wrong board to badmouth him.

I'm very happy for you ladies and I hope all of those who continue to use him have success.
But sorry, there are many women who are VERY frustrated with Dr. Braverman who only notice positive things about him, no negative so they feel there is something wrong with them.
I still have a right to my PERSONAL EXPERIENCE opinion.

we're bashing you because you dont have your facts straight. obviously everyone on here and everyone who has used AFS knows that they aren't the best. but guess what, neither is your beloved ECF.
everyone finds success in different ways. theres no reason to completely, openly bash a practice because it didnt work for you. obviously you have some built up anger about it, but this isnt the place to unleash it. if you want to share your experience to help others that's one thing, but to just say that you have experience is meaningless to the rest of us who have bared our souls and told our story step by step in order to help others.
if ladies are very frustrated with dr. B - how is it possible that they only notice positive things about him?? thats an oxy moron. share your story and people will take you seriously, otherwise your "warning" holds no weight.

If East Coast is so amazing why does Dr. kreiner call Dr. Braverman for consults about his patients? Yes. That happened.

After 3 IVF's didn't work he had no explanation. So I took my medical reports to 6 other doctors. And you know what they all did, tell me that those tests meant nothing.
Absolutely not saying ECF is the BEST and there are so many unhappy patients who left them without success.
I HIGHLY doubt Dr. Kreiner "calls" Dr. B for consults. If anything Dr. B was a very well known OBGYN and decided to get into Infertility.
As for facts, I know them and can stand behind them.
there is a HUGE difference between saying something is awful, dont use them... versus saying... i have used them and i dont like them because my experience was .... HUGE difference... besides the fact that probably around 70% of this board sees Dr B... and that he is a LIF "vendor"... but it just makes you sound like you are here only to bash the person and not be a part of the community...

If you knew this board you would know that we are very honest about our experiences and very supportive of our journeys no matter how long or short or where we've come from.
You can't just post one negative thread and expect a warm welcome. If you're truly here to offer your advice and non "sugar coated" feelings, how about an introduction?
If you know at least 10 Dr.B patients, I must know 20. Including ones that didn't have success with him.
And its a fact that Kreiner has called to consult. sSorry to disappoint you.

I don't see it as being bashed about your opinions, everyone has a right to them. The way that you voiced your opinion is an issue. IF is a sensitive topic, which clearly you should know after having gone through it. Patients of Dr. B or any doctor for that matter put a lot of trust, faith, hope, etc in him/her. So when this doctor gets attacked based on an opinion, not a fact, how can you not expect resistance?
