Grocery cart baby seats

Ok so Am I the only germaphobe
Today I saw two babies (18 months) sitting in the seat without a cover. Am I being to cautious? I heard the handles are covered with more germs than public rest rooms. Not just from all the people using them but prob from the things they handle like meats in the store.

Re: Grocery cat baby seats

You are not alone. I avoid putting DD in a cart when I can. If I have to, I put the cart cover seat thing in for her to sit in.

When we get back to the car I clean both our hands with sanitizer and wipes, then we wash our hands when we get home.

I'm even grossed out by the cart when I'm shopping without her. I can't touch anything when I get home until I've washed my hands. If it's cold and I'm wearing gloves I never take them off while shopping.

Here's my validation, the one time I skipped using the cart cover was at BJ's because it doesn't fit well on that double cart and I was in a rush, we both ended up with colds that week.

Re: Grocery cat baby seats

I was so surprised today. I was like wow two babies within feet of each other. I dont even push my cart. I pull it by the front. We even bring our own portable high chair (straps onto a reg chair) when we go out to eat. The one time she used a reg highchair (gave in at a really clean restaurant we go to often) and she got sick three days later.

I always use the cover too. I recently saw a toddler chewing on the handle while his mom was totally not paying attention..I wanted to gag Chat Icon

We also have the booster seat thing we bring to restaurants, or we use the boppy shopping cart cover in the restaurant high chair. I also found disposable place mats that stick to the table, so I use those so DS doesn't touch the tables they clean all day with the same rag lol. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

our supermarkets all supply anti-bacterial wipes at the door. i don't even pick out a cart until i grab like 3 wipes for myself!

we have a cover - but we're not at that point yet with Em...she's still in her stroller.

Re: Grocery cart baby seats

I had the cart cover on my registry and I never got it. My DD is only a little over 2 months so she will be in her car seat for a while but once she is out of the car seat and will sit in the wagon I guess I should get it. I do skeeve public stuff too...I never really thought about how dirty the handle is....but after reading the posts I realize it is true and gross at how many people touch it, etc...I have done peapod a few times since being preggo and having DD and maybe I will keep doing it, haha...cleanest solution..

Re: Grocery cart baby seats

never have used cover...I am guessing shopping carts haven't picked up worst germs then in the past when babies sat in them unprotected.

I really never wanted the germy cart cover in my car. Unless you wash after each use...aren't you just putting your baby back on a germy piece of cloth?

I ALWAYS use the cart cover! I've become so germaphobic that I'll wipe down the cart with clorox wipes, then put the cover in.

I also can not believe the amout of mothers I see that just put their baby in the cartChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I put it in a plastic bag in my trunk and wash it once a week

Re: Grocery cart baby seats

my son is 17 months old and i haven't used that cover in months. i honestly always chuckle to myself when i see a child over one in one--to me they're for babies. just being honest.

i'm not a germophobe. i don't want DS or DD becoming one either. i wash their hands a normal amount and use hand sanitizer when necessary but that's it.

i don't use one with my 2.5 yr old but i do wash down the cart with a wet one or clorox wipe (keep em in my car) EVERY time i use one. i scrub it handle to the sides. people look at me like i'm strange but those things gross me out!

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but this is really not nice.

We've NEVER had a cart cover and my DS is one of the healthiest kids you have ever seen
