i used one with DD#1, have not with DD#2. so far she spends more time in the stroller...

the thing with these are, one has to then put it in a plastic bag, take it home to launder and then take it out to use the next time. otherwise, really all one is doing is taking the germs along with you after placing it in the cart.

i find shopping carts gross and just try to wipe them down and/or DD#2 down before and after in one. with DD#1 i was more concerned with her banging her head than germs though...

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but this is really not nice.

We've NEVER had a cart cover and my DS is one of the healthiest kids you have ever seen

Sorry...didn't mean to be rude or mean (should've left out the ack symbol)! I have become a germaphobe and I personally think the cart is extremely gross!

Always use the cart cover. People in the stores always comment how smart I am for putting it Those carts are gross.

Re: Grocery cart baby seats

Generally I avoid even taking them to the stores as much as possible. But when I do, that cover is on and I put it on so it covers the handle I push so I don't touch it either.

We all survived growing up without a shopping cart cover!

I agree And while I have one and use it sometimes, now that DS is older (2) I dont use it every time.

When he was little and always put his hands in his mouth I used it all the time.

Re: Grocery cart baby seats

I used it with Ella when she was an infant (moreso for cushioning when she wasn't sitting well on her own). Never used it with Erik.

Re: Grocery cart baby seats

the problem with sanitizing wipes is that you are supposed to wash them down with water afterwards if anything that touches that surface should also go into the mouth... ds is 14 months old, and i can tell you EVERYTHING is going into the mouth including his fingers so why risk it... ALSO commenting that it is pointless to have one once the child is over 1 years, honestly i think it depends on the child, most carts do not have a strap and i am an avid fan of strapping my child in, which i have noticed a good portion of people dont, and since ds is obsessed with straps i rathe rhave my own clean ones then the dirty ones on the carts

another reason i use the cart cover has nothing to do with germs but has to do with the amount of rust on some of these carts.... the whole thing just doesnt make sense when i can just cover it, use my own strap, and be done with it

Re: Grocery cart baby seats

I used to use one with Chelsea more for her comfort than germs. Now I only use it if I am doing a huge food shopping. If I am just running in and out I don't.

Never had one when DD was little. I have one now , I bought it this summer , DD was almost 2 lol and the only reason I did buy it was bc it was $ 10 on sale at Marshalls and it's really cute, plus it has pockets and I put her gold fish in them when we go shopping Chat Icon I use it once in a while , but not always.

oh and DD almost never gets sick

I have a friend who is a complete germaphobe and she antibacterials everything. She uses it on her kids hands all the time too. She even has a little one of those antibacterial bottles hanging from her car seat.
Her kids are always sick!! Children need some type of germs and bacteria so they can fight off the really bad ones.

You are not alone. I never put my DC in the shopping carts at the stores. I do have a shopping cart cover and I think I used it twice with my DS. Also when I go out to eat to restaurants I usually bring a booster seat for both my DC.

Re: Grocery cart baby seats

We use it, DS likes to chew on everything, I wouldn't want him chewing on the cart. I also sanitize it with the wipes they provide before I put it on, since half the time DS moves the cart cover lol.

I rarely see people use them here in NJ, I've even been asked where I bought mine lol.

Yeah, I used a cart cover once, I think! Chat Icon
I always use the wipes that are provided at the front of the store and use purell after the shopping trip.

Exactly what I do! I keep Wet Ones wipes next to Bry's car seat also and as soon as we are in the car we sanitize!

Re: Grocery cart baby seats

I use it sometimes. Honestly I'm not that worried about the germs. Most bacteria and viruses can't live that long outside of the body. And if they do come in contact with something, it is good for them to have exposure so they can build up their immune systems.

I just wipe down the cart and call it a day. There are germs everywhere, I don't put a cover over her with everything else she touches...

I grew up in NYC since I was a baby. You can bet I was put in one and there were no such thing as the following:

Purell
Clorox wipes
Shopping cart covers
Please Don't Touch Me signs

AND - my mom had OCD - literally. She made do with soap and water Chat Icon

Personally, I am so NOT a germaphobe. DS started daycare at 8 weeks old and I had to put him on the floor everyday or a bouncy seat that all the infants shared. He had his share of colds like any other new person.

He is 2.5 and he has been so healthy. Their immune systems are there for a reason!

Re: Grocery cart baby seats

I am one of those mommies that has never used one of the cart baby covers since day 1.

When they were smaller - I would on occasion wipe down the handle of the cart - but I don't anymore. I do keep wipes and hand santizer in our cars - so everytime we enter the car we all clean our hands.

We have been very fortunate that our kids have been healthy - we try to be cautious but not overly cautious and scared about germs. I feel if anything - any germs will build up their immune system.

I do think the covers are a great idea - I just never bothered using one.

Re: Grocery cart baby seats

I don't use a cart cover. My grocery store has anti-bac wipes by the carts with a big sign that says "wipe down your cart" and a little disposable bin for the used one. We just wipe it down and go.
