Yes, they did look like a nice family. But, no my heart doesn't go out to them because he HIT A COP!!! With a car!!! Wake up!!
And yes, the people that I arrest ARE savages.....I never said all the people in my area are.....nor would I ever make that generalization...so, please stop turning my words around on me trying to make ME look like the bad guy here...not going to work.
Here is the dictionary definition of savage....
1. fierce, ferocious, or cruel; untamed: savage beasts. 2. uncivilized; barbarous: savage tribes. 3. enraged or furiously angry, as a person. 4. unpolished; rude: savage manners. 5. wild or rugged, as country or scenery: savage wilderness. 6. Archaic. uncultivated; growing wild. –noun 7. an uncivilized human being. 8. a fierce, brutal, or cruel person. 9. a rude, boorish person. 10. a member of a preliterate society. –verb (used with object) 11. to assault and maul by biting, rending, goring, etc.; tear at or mutilate: numerous sheep savaged by dogs. 12. to attack or criticize thoroughly or remorselessly; excoriate: a play savaged by the critics.
So, when I arrest somebody for acting in an uncivilized, barbarious manner, or who was fierce, brutal or cruel to another human being or animal.....yes, they fit the definition of "savage" perfectly. I don't arrest people for bullcrap...I make only felony arrests b/c of the nature of my job. These perps are career criminals who are going absolutely nowhere!!! I don't work in mid-town manhattan and arrest teenagers for graffiti and weed....I lock people up for guns, heavy duty drugs, and robberies!!! Yes, these perps are savages....and innocent till proven guilty??? Don't think so....I haven't lost a trial yet....and the rest of my perps have all plead guilty.
Oh....and just to give you an idea of the "savageness" I get to experience on a daily basis....take a look at this video (from Tampa, FL)....but, unfortunately ignorance is spread world-wide.

hitting a cop with a car doesn't equate with desserving to die in my book- nor should it in yours or anyone elses!
the cop is fine- home with his family- which is alot more then this guy can say!
Okay - so if the guy had a gun and fired it at the cop - but missed, should they not have fired back?
the cop could have been seriously injured or killed. just because he is okay doesnt mean that he shouldnt have retaliated. Deadly forced was used on him, he had the right to retaliate in my book. A car can be used as a deadly weapon.
shoot the tires- stop the car

OK, I think everyone needs to stop throwing Moosey under the bus. I expect she was extremely heated when she typed what she did, and did not use the best choice of words.
But Ritse, you are the one who generalized the entire NYPD.
What does your brother getting pulled over have to do with anything? Cops target certain cars.
I can't keep going back and forth. It was an example I used in the beginning.
I concede that generalizing the entire NYPD was not the best choice of words but then again, I used several examples of innocent black men that had died at the hands on NYPD. I was trying to raise a point that expect the black community to cry foul before facts because it's happened time and time again. This was my point. It may have gotten lost earlier but this is my point.

I believe what Ritse was saying, is that her brother as a black man driving a BMW has gotten pulled over for no reason at all. If cops target certain cars like the BMW, then how come my husband (a white man) has never been pulled over for driving a BMW?

I have to say, I cringed when I read "savages".
Me too, maybe that is not the right mentality to have when you are supposed to be "protecting and serving"
that was a incredibly insensitive choice of words.....
Courtesy, Professionalism, Respect
isn't that on the side of every cop car?
Uh...yeah, that whole CPR thing gets thrown out the window when somebody is trying to kill one of us.....

I know exactly what she was saying. My brother gets pulled over ALL the time, and drives a BMW and is white. It happens in Queens QUITE often. Not so much on LI.

I don't live on LI, so I can't speak for that area, but we are in Manhatten frequently and visit DH's family in Queens just as frequently, not once has he ever been pulled over.
I know that's not the point of this post, but to make a that kind of statement, is generalizing.
The whole story is just very sad, I am not one to judge, and cannot judge when the whole story is not known.

Ok...I already covered this too....we are not trained to "shoot out the tires." We are not allowed to fire our weapons unless we are aiming center mass for the person using deadly force against us. "Shooting out the tires" is merely a product of too much television and cops in other states who have a lot more "room" to work with in certain situations. Firing a gun at a moving car in NYC is likely to do MORE damage, then to just let the car go (assuming it hadn't hit anybody, of course)

Yes, they should have. But they didn't. I guess it's OK. They were shooting at "savages".
The police department's policy on shooting at moving vehicles states: "Police officers shall not discharge their firearms at or from a moving vehicle, unless deadly force is being used against the police officers or another person present, by means other than a moving vehicle.''
And the cop was undercover...how did he know he was a cop? Yes, cops are saying he stated so...but others aren't...so who knows?
An undercover officer walked closely behind Bell and his friends as they headed for their car. As he walked toward the front of the vehicle, the car drove forward -- striking the officer and a nearby undercover police vehicle, Kelly said.
The officer who had followed the group on foot was apparently the first to open fire, Kelly said. That officer had served on the force for five years. One 12-year veteran fired his weapon 31 times, emptying two full magazines, Kelly said.
Bell backed the car onto a sidewalk, hitting a building gate, authorities said. He then drove forward, striking the police vehicle a second time, Kelly said.

so if the car is going max 10 miles per hour- it's not exactly a weapon- you could easily get out of the way- and it certainly wont kill you if you get hit by it

Are you kidding me? 10 miles an hour is not a crawl, and if you get hit by it, yes, you can be killed.

Here is another story about a cop who was hit by a car.
Cop hit
The officer, Francis Byrne, of the First Squad, was not injured.
and that was a pathfinder- this guy had a much smaller car- an alitma
Jake hit by a car doing 20 mph when he was a bouncer- he jumped back up and continued to chase him
