Re: Groom Killed on Wedding Day
comparing ANY poster here as "ignornant jackass " and a "savage" is disgusting....Thats a little harsh because you cant handle someones opinions/beliefs being different then yours....
It has nothing to do with being able to "handle other's beliefs." She can "believe" all she wants....however, it is people like her that pass these "generalizations" about the NYPD down from one generation to another and THAT is why we have 10 and 12 year olds who HATE and DESPISE the police. Because they are taught the "all cops are bad" and "all cops are racist" and "all cops make bad judgement calls." If she were to argue her point without the generalization of ALL OF US.....it would be a completely different story. I would be more than happy to have a little LIF debate...but that fact of the matter is, she is just that....ignorant! And quite frankly, I am EXTREMELY offended that anybody would essentially call me (representing the NYPD) and racist and profiler!!!! So, yes....probably should have left the jacka$$ part out....Iwas a bit heated....I apologize for that....but not for the ignorant part....not one bit.
Not once did anybody post anything about "ALL BLACK MEN".....did they? mmmm..nope.....so, who is she to post "All NYPD???" Please!!

I gotcha.....
I personally dont believe ALL Cops are racist lets say...but if she does..thats for her to say, Calling her a savage kinda makes all of your points mute because of your choice of words.
I do understand the heated way this thread has gone, I just think its awful we would have to , no matter how heated, resort to that kind of name calling...

"obviously an ignorant jacka$$ just like the rest of the savages I arrest on a weekly basis"
I didn't call HER a savage....I said she is ignorant...JUST LIKE the savages I arrest on a weekly basis...meaning every savage I do arrest is ignorant....and she falls into the ignorant category.....

Oh, and BTW, oh ignorant one....Jamaica is 65% black and hispanic....how exactly is it "profiling" when the majority of people are "in the minority?" "profiling" in THAT area would be pulling over the little old white guy in the pick-up truck.....HE'S the one out of place comparing ANY poster here as "ignornant jackass " and a "savage" is disgusting....Thats a little harsh because you cant handle someones opinions/beliefs being different then yours....
I used to work on Farmer's Boulevard. I am a white girl & I drive a Pick up. I used to get pulled over almost every day in the whopping 5 or so blocks from Conduit to the end of Farmer's & was asked if I was "lost." It occured so often that I became friendly with the cops in that neighborhood. And they thought it was hysterical that I lived in Queens (at that time). Meanwhile, while they were busy asking me if I was lost, someone else might have actually needed some real help. Were they trying to do the right thing...sure; they thought they were helping some Upstate girl who took the wrong exit. Is it still unreasonable to judge a book by its cover..... ABSOLUTELY.

uh....I wasn't calling the cops ignorant (I said that the poster was ignorant and the perps are savages)...and well, your story just proves my point. The Queens cops couldn't have been "profiling" for minorities b/c that whole area IS comprised of minorities....

I know, and I edited it because I realized it came off the wrong way. Like I said, I became friendly with the cops from that Precinct, and still speak with some of them even now (5 years later). I am just saying that it can go both ways. Profiling is not just white vs. black/hispanic/asian, etc.....
I would never say that NYPD "blah blah," as a generalization. I think it is an incredibly dangerous job, and I think that most people who comment on the job that many PO's do would not have the balls to do anything half as dangerous or important. I do think that when things like this happen, the rush to get the story out, and the sensationalism behind the story become more important than the facts. Many people will immediately judge by some very small superficial facts rather than really take a look at what could have or did actually happen.

I dont want to judge, but my intial reaction is 50 shots is excessive against someone unarmed.
UNARMED???? They were armed with a 3,000lb moving vehicle!!!!! Which HIT A COP!!!!!
I am NYPD and know the full story.....so, people, before you toss judgement at innocent cops, try obtaining all the facts first!!! The media has blown this entire thing out of proportion (once again)....
Funny, just last month a female officer where I work was hit and pinned to a light pole by a savage using a motor vehicle as a WEAPON....she almost died and nearly lost both of her legs....her partner shot and killed the driver of THAT vehicle......BUT, did you see THAT incident on the front page of every newspaper....Officer Critically Injured by Savage in a Car, savage dies in gunfire....no, b/c the press doesn't consider THAT big news....it only made a small article on page 16.
The press picks and chooses it's stories....and the majority of the time, it is published before all the facts are known.
And honestly, unless any of you have EVER been involved in a situation where you TRULY feared for your life......then you also have NO RIGHT to judge 50 shots, 2 shots, or 120 shots by the cops. When someone is shooting at you, hitting you or your partner with a car, coming at you with a knife, or trying to throw you over the side of an 8 story building.....the human instinct kicks in and the will to survive takes over. 50 shots is not unreasonable for 4 cops who were placed in an EXTREMELY scary situation!!!!
OK....rant over. Feel free to bash me all you want....but I seriously couldn't read anymore of your inaccurate opinions anymore!!!!
ETA: I realize some of you "knew the groom".....but you also need to realize every single savage involved had an extensive criminal record. These guys weren't exactly church-going folks who were out for a Sunday stroll!!!!

Posted by Beth1210 ...how about shooting out the tires of the car if they are driving away- not the people in the car
You never shoot at the tires. That works great in the movies, but you're not trained to do that in law enforcement.
Plain and simple...if you're going to pull the trigger, you shoot to kill...not wound.
agreed. You do shoot to kill. I still think the cops acted irresponsibly.
BTW: NYPD is NOT TRAINED to "shoot to kill".....we are trained to shoot center mass. Unfortunately, if a perp is sitting in a car that is coming straight at me, his head and chest are center mass.....so, yes...it does often lead to death....however, there are plenty of shootings where perps have been taken down with a shot to an extremity.
I clarified my statement of "shoot to kill" a little later in the thread.
In my opinion, I have always called it shoot to kill, because most likely, the perp will die from the wound.
yeah...that's not true either. if you research the nypd shooting statistics for the year...you'll see a VAST majority of our shootings DO NOT end up fatalities. As a matter of fact, most of them are treated and released at the hosptal and then sent off to be arraigned.
We always "joke" that when one of us gets shot or hurt, it often leads to death....but whenever a savage takes 3 hits dead center in his chest, he's out playing ball a month later. Sad, but extremely true.

Oh, and BTW, oh ignorant one....Jamaica is 65% black and hispanic....how exactly is it "profiling" when the majority of people are "in the minority?" "profiling" in THAT area would be pulling over the little old white guy in the pick-up truck.....HE'S the one out of place.....not a car full of savages, oops...I mean black men with long criminal histories who just got finished fighting, cried wolf about a gun, oh and HIT AN NYPD OFFICER!!!! But, the officers who shot were "profiling?"
Wow....you need to catch up on some facts!
Nikki...I'm saddened by your statements.
I like you and respect you...and can only imagine the danger you face daily.
You're a hero.
But to call every single person you arrest a "savage" or to refer to the general people in the area is disgusting. Is that how you see every person in your district? There are families, upstanding citizens, children, not all are "bad". The opportunity to build a strong relationship is there. However, it won't happen with prejudiced thoughts of people as "savages".
What happened to "innocent until proven guilty"...or being given the reason of a doubt?
What happened to not generalizing?
Yes, sadly, there is a lot of mistrust and hate toward the cops from minorities. There's decades of incidents. The 50's-90's weren't the best.
And it seems that there's preconceived ideas from cops about the population (or at least from you) as well. I hope not everyone thinks that way. Just like not everyone teaches hate about cops to their kids.
Change doesn't happen overnight.
It does need to happen though.
What's happening right now and the polarity of views is troubling.
I'm sorry for those who are attacked merely by standing...for trying to protect people. I'm also sorry for those who are mistreated merely by standing, for "looking" a certain way.
It goes both ways. And it's gross no matter which way you slice it.

According to someone who didn't know them...and who's a cop...the deceased is a savage. That's troubling and sad, on so many levels!!

I'll say it again, I can't believe the polarity on the issue. And the character assumptions being made.
To hear it from someone I like and who is a cop, hurts even more.

I take it I am the ignorant jackass.
I don't even know how to react to that. I'll let you know this much, it's rude and completely uncalled for. I have a right like every other person on this site to express my opinions. I stated earlier on to agree to disagree. I can give as good as I get but I don't know you personally and so I won't stoop to your level. Your typing that actually says a lot more about you than you realize.
I guess the savages you arrest daily are the black people in those neighborhoods and everyone wonders about my initial post.
Another point, my brother was pulled over both times in Manhattan. Clearly profiling in my eyes but whatever.

Yes, they did look like a nice family. But, no my heart doesn't go out to them because he HIT A COP!!! With a car!!! Wake up!!
And yes, the people that I arrest ARE savages.....I never said all the people in my area are.....nor would I ever make that generalization...so, please stop turning my words around on me trying to make ME look like the bad guy here...not going to work.
Here is the dictionary definition of savage....
1. fierce, ferocious, or cruel; untamed: savage beasts. 2. uncivilized; barbarous: savage tribes. 3. enraged or furiously angry, as a person. 4. unpolished; rude: savage manners. 5. wild or rugged, as country or scenery: savage wilderness. 6. Archaic. uncultivated; growing wild. –noun 7. an uncivilized human being. 8. a fierce, brutal, or cruel person. 9. a rude, boorish person. 10. a member of a preliterate society. –verb (used with object) 11. to assault and maul by biting, rending, goring, etc.; tear at or mutilate: numerous sheep savaged by dogs. 12. to attack or criticize thoroughly or remorselessly; excoriate: a play savaged by the critics.
So, when I arrest somebody for acting in an uncivilized, barbarious manner, or who was fierce, brutal or cruel to another human being or animal.....yes, they fit the definition of "savage" perfectly. I don't arrest people for bullcrap...I make only felony arrests b/c of the nature of my job. These perps are career criminals who are going absolutely nowhere!!! I don't work in mid-town manhattan and arrest teenagers for graffiti and weed....I lock people up for guns, heavy duty drugs, and robberies!!! Yes, these perps are savages....and innocent till proven guilty??? Don't think so....I haven't lost a trial yet....and the rest of my perps have all plead guilty.

But Ritse, you are the one who generalized the entire NYPD.
What does your brother getting pulled over have to do with anything? Cops target certain cars.

But Ritse, you are the one who generalized the entire NYPD.
What does your brother getting pulled over have to do with anything? Cops target certain cars.
IMHO, moosey should stop trying to justify her disgusting choice of words...she threw herself under the bus.

Thank you!
I love how she is saying what Moosey did and said was SO wrong and SO hurtful-- and HOW can she generalize people?? YET she generalized all police officers! It's totally hypercritical... But, I'm not surprised.
ETA: this is the case with cops a lot- what others get sympathy for- they get none for- what others do that's "no big deal" and they are crucified and scrutinized

hitting a cop with a car doesn't equate with desserving to die in my book- nor should it in yours or anyone elses!
the cop is fine- home with his family- which is alot more then this guy can say!
Okay - so if the guy had a gun and fired it at the cop - but missed, should they not have fired back?
the cop could have been seriously injured or killed. just because he is okay doesnt mean that he shouldnt have retaliated. Deadly forced was used on him, he had the right to retaliate in my book. A car can be used as a deadly weapon.

Oh....and just to give you an idea of the "savageness" I get to experience on a daily basis....take a look at this video (from Tampa, FL)....but, unfortunately ignorance is spread world-wide.
Savages in training
