Re: Had such a scare last night...
You are brave to have written this post! Hopefully it well help others. I wasn't crazy about the rock & play (my kid was a Houdini). I also tossed it after I saw some mold in it (not sure WHY it grew mold as we kept it in a dry room).

Thank you! I hope it helps anyone. I thought I was pretty good on safety points- no loose blankets or anything, always on his back, video monitor- but this one was an eye opener bc he likes to be swaddled and I didn't know what to do. Now into the pack n play with a sleep sak! Hopefully we get some sleep tonight

Re: Had such a scare last night...
They have sleep sack swaddles. It's a sleep sack with a swaddle Velcrod to the back. I believe Halo makes them. you can tightly swaddle him with his arms out if he is rolling from back to belly until he gets used to the bigger space. When I was transitioning out of a swaddle I did that and it still gave them the security of being swaddled but their arms were free In case they rolled over.

Re: Had such a scare last night...
so happy he is ok! I have a love / hate relationship with the rock and play. I loved it bc it helped with DD's reflux however I found that very early on she started to hate her bassinet and only wanted to be in the rock and play. My friends had the same thing happen to their LO's, but I quickly got her adjusted to sleeping at night in the bassinet. I think they are a great invention but it really does scare me to have them sleep in it over night. I wont do it with the next one. Sleep well tonight and thankfully he is ok

Had such a scare last night...
I loved my RNP, but when DD was 6 months old, almost 7, we were trying to transition her to the crib and she HATED it. She would not sleep. I had planned on using Thanksgiving break as the time to transition and suffer through some sleepless nights, when a few days before, DH found her facedown on the floor with her feet stuck in the straps. I had belted her in, but she sat up and almost flipped it.. I think she sort of slid out headfirst in the front... the thought of it made me sick and she never slept in it again.

Re: Had such a scare last night...
We used sleep sack over pajamas. No blanket or pillow of any kind.
I was always so paranoid.

Re: Had such a scare last night...
DD is 5 mos - she sleeps swaddled in the RNP overnight. We're doing naps in the crib and the PNP on her side. It's a crap shoot what length of a nap we end up getting. We have put her in the RNP on her side for naps much earlier on because she seems to like side sleeping better. She's not much of a roller right now...will get to her side and that's about it.
We eventually have to get her used to sleeping on her back in the crib but I don't know where t start or how to transition since she doesn't seem to like it.
She still has that startle reflex that wakes her up...hoping that will be gone in the next month so that maybe sleeping on her back would be more comfortable.

Thank you! I think a PP said if they are rolling they shouldn't have any kind of swaddling? Is this ok?

OMG! That's crazy! So glad she is ok. The RNP was always recommended to me as a replacement for a bassinet, I had no idea it was dangerous! Thank you for sharing!

This was the same position we were in. He literally never rolled in his sleep until he did this first time and it was an issue

Had such a scare last night...
Thank you everyone for all your help and support! We were able to squeeze the PNP in our room and used a sleep sak last night. He moaned a lot through the night and woke up 3 times. Not horrible. Whenever I checked on him he was rocking back and forth and kicking his feet, I guess bc hes not used to the room. Thanks for all the help with the transition!
ETA that I am usually so safety conscious, and the one thing you don't think of ends up being the problem!

Your post has motivated me to move up when we were going to start moving her to the crib overnights. I'm looking into a soothing mobile that will hopefully start to teach her to soothe without the comfort of the RNP. We'll remove one arm out of the swaddle in a couple weeks once we've made the transition to the crib. Then we'll remove the other arm but keep the swaddle around her torso so she still feels a little snug. Eventually I'd love to be able to put her in the crib drowsy, put the mobile on and have her just go to sleep all on her own. Here's to wishful thinking...and also to a friend cheering us on (AKD)!!!

If his arms are free it is fine. He can still use his arms to push up and help him move around. But if he is doing fine without the swaddle then there is no need :)

Oh wow, that is super scary. I have to say I think the RnP is out of the question now. Try to squeeze the PnP in your room. Do you use sleep sacks (sack or the ones with feet)? My daughter sleeps in her fleece sleeps (over her pjs) and I wrap her in a blanket but her arms are free. She rolls all over with no problems in her crib
You use the sleep sak over her pjs and a blanket?
Yes, she wears the thin stretchy pj's and the footed sleeper over it. And then a blanket. Our house is very very drafty.
