Re: Hanging a flat screen TV on the wall
ave is correct... you need a CL2 rated HDMI cable if its run through the wall. I just did a quick search over at Monoprice and now they have FLAT CL2 rated HDMI cables! Dang, that would have made my installation soooo much easier.

Our is actually set into our wall. DH cut it in and sunk it slightly. All the wiring runs in the wall for it and the components are below in my unit.

I've read a lot about the flat panels and electrical. Supposedly routing the electrical cables thru the walls can void homeowners insurance, if there ever is a claim for fire.
i dont really understand what you are saying because all eletrical cords are run through the walls. also, people move outleys and light switches all the time.
Romex is run through walls because it is CL2 rated to withstand fires and not cause any problems.
Your typical flat screen TV power cable is not because it is not CL2 rated. Running the flat screen's power cable through the wall is no doubt against electrical code regardless of what any electrician says and like the above poster said it can void your homeowners policy. If your homeowners insurance denies your claim and you try to sue them over this you will lose.
This is why you need a recessed outlet behind the flat screen TV. Because the outlet is connected with Romex and that is what makes it code.
that is what I had said. the tv wires are not run in the wall DH ran new electrical behind the TV to plug it in. He just added an outlet behind the TV to plug it in. and he used BX.
maybe these will clear it up...

Re: Hanging a flat screen TV on the wall
I am dying to get my flat screen hung, I even have the mount, but DH and I have NO CLUE how to even begin. Anyone know of who we can hire? We don't want to pay an arm and a leg. TIA!
