The media is not helping one bit, they are making it WORSE. Plus, I think there are a lot of facts floating around that are inaccurate, really spreading like rumors do, and they are fueled by emotion. It's quite scary IMO.

There are several things circulating right now. I know one is about the funding of the mosque.

I don't think it's insensitive.. i mean this is America and one of the things we celebrate is freedom of religion.

we can't pick and choose where houses of worship are built.

3 blocks from WTC is hardly right on top of, and hardly insensitive..

I completely agree.

I am so against this mosque being built anywhere near the WTC site that I just get SICK thinking about it. I find it not only extremely insensitive but politically foolish. Of all the things to put up near Ground Zero, it has to be a MUSLIM SHRINE?? WHAT THE F%^&%? Why not a Jewish temple? or a Methodist church? Why a MOSQUE? Seriously - i would support it but not anywhere near thw WTC site. Figures this was ok'ed by Obama, a Muslim himself. This country is going to shitter with that man ruining this country. I am so disgusted!

Yes, and I think people are overlooking that it's not just a house of worship, it's going to be a HUGE community center (like a JCC or YMCA), pool, fitness center, etc.

IT WILL NOT BE ON THE WORLD TRADE CENTER CITE. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MEMORIAL. AT ALL. IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM.

The proposed mosque would be built next to my old office. This was my view from that location on 9/11 (i took this pic) and my husband (BF at the time) was on a plane to LA that day..we didn't know each other's status until about 4:30pm...the landing gear from the second plane went crashing thru the roof of the building next to the proposed location..that would be the X that says landing gear at 45 Park Place..my office was #43.

Our rooftop and lobby were covered in debris from the towers after they collapsed...there were people in those towers and there were people in that debris..mothers, daughters, husbands, wives, sons, daughters, unborn babies...3,000 of them.

i was in that office when the towers fell. I walked out later through debris & rubble and will never forget the devastation i saw that day. The area spreads much farther than just the footprint of the WTC buildings. I am personally opposed to the location because of what i went through that day, whether my reasoning is right or wrong...and am not looking to debate but to offer one person's perspective for their opinion.

the Jon Stewart/ Glenn Beck video clip was what made me bring this back up

media attention wh*re Beck ALSO made points how America brought 9/11 on itself just like people are upset about the Imam saying

I'm glad Jon Stewart called him out

I thought his report was great!

EXACTLY. I am not going to debate but my strong feelings still remain. I will voice my opposition to this Mosque rubbishness because I worked at 40 Wall Street on 9/11 and was there when everthing came crashing down. I am just shocked and appalled at the IDEA that ANY type of religious "center" is being considered for inclusing anywhere near the WTC site.

I am already disgusted with how NYC and Silverstein handled the creation of thge WTC memorial. My office was only steps away from that tragedy and for months afterward we saw nothing but red tape and red tape on that site and local politicians doing nothing but DRAGGING THEIR GOD%^^#$A *****ES doing absolutely nothing to get this WTC Memorial off the ground.

I am just angry, absolutely angry over the WTC aftermath and this Mosque foolishness just seems like over the top attempt to appease extremists by the Obama adminitsration, plain and simple.

Re: Having trouble understanding this - Mosque at WTC site

My main concern is really the Iman.

I don't think what is circulating is necessarily false.

It should be looked into, IMO.

If he really said that the US was an accessory to 9/11- if he really wouldn't acknowledge that Hamas is a terrorist organization then I think it is really sad that this would be built near Ground Zero.

I personally feel that the victims might be outraged at this- if the Iman really has these beliefs and then runs a center and teaches these beliefs so close to Ground Zero.

I tried to not respond on this thread at all.... but after seeing your post I just had to.
I was somewhat on the fence. Leaning towards being against it. You solidified that for me.

I'm not at all against the building of a mosque... but they can choose another location. They could have accepted the offer of that other location. It seems they ONLY want this particular location. I think it's too much too close. I would never say they should tear down any nearby current mosques. I would be 100% opposed to that. But to build one right there is a bit much and I would def say insensitive to the families. If I lost a loved one there I would be really upset. Esp from all the things they had to go through after the attacks, with the searching of missing bodies, bodies not found, then the workers having the health issues and then health insurance problems, and then the NYC and the owners and the memorial site. and now this?? enough is enough.

What I would like to hear more about in the news is how muslims (and others) are teaching their youth about extremists and why being a terrorist is wrong. I think educating them from a much earlier age so they won't be brain washed at any point is key. Otherwise this will forever be an ongoing issue. Stop it where it starts.
I specifically shout out muslims here because the trend of the extremists is that they are usually muslim religion. I know the real muslim beliefs are VERY different from that of an extremist... but the extremists are calling themselves muslim and they are praying on the muslim youths to join their armies.

I'm for it.

Anyone who classifies all muslims as terrorists needs to familiarize themselves with the religion.

Islam, Christianity and Judaism all have similar principles, yet people think we are all so different.

*** does Obama have to do with this? I am so sick of his name being put up for debate over this. What did he say COME ON LET'S BUILD IT right near it so we can have all this drama? Does he have power to say no to building it or not? NO!!! I am so not Obama's cheerleader but its just a comment that many people keep making over and over again that makes NO sense.

Now this next statement has nothing to do with the quote:
How about no houses of worship with in a four block area? Oh no that doesn't work? Why don't we just round up all the muslims and toss them out of the country just keep it to religions we like because that is what this country is all about, right?

Also what about we dip into history and looking into the RC church and its agenda to steal and destroy and TERRORIZE all who didn't think their belief system was correct. How many muslims, jewish, pagan individuals did they kill and yet we don't banish anyone from practicing it. You know how many RC churches are built on old religious buildings that they tore down or just adopted? But we don't see that is evil because guess its just the muslims that are jerks right?

I'll bite...I am not ignorant...instead, I carry the images of 9/11 in my head every day. I buried my cousin and a good friend because of the massacre that took place.

My husband worked in Tower II and would be dead had fate not worked that day.

So, no...I don't think it is a really good idea to build a mosque in that area. The men who steered those planes into the towers, the pentagon, and into the field in PA were terrorists...Islamic terrorists...killing in the name of their God....so yeah, I am a little biased...just a little.....

IDK call me crazy but I'm opposed to building the mosque there... but I don't agree with any of what you wrote. Just because I don't think a mosque should go there doesn't mean I want to banish anyone from practicing the religion or round up muslims and toss them out on their butts, or that they are all jerks or even all terrorists.

I think people can disagree with building a mosque in that specific location, but that doesn't mean they think all the things you mentioned.

I appreciate your feelings and your perspective.

my old office building was 100 church street. we are now in new digs for obvious reason.

two people I know were killed in those towers. a friend and mother of two beautiful boys, and a fireman an old friends fiance.

I walked through the dust to pick my siblings up from school. I washed it off my dining table. the wind was blowing the smoke and debris in my direction.

I worked on 9/11 fraud. none of this is detached from me. all of this is real to me.

I work a few blocks away now from the trade center site. my office is heavily involved in all things 9/11.

I saw this to reiterate that I am not detached. I understand the feelings. I am a New Yorker. this is MY city. I don't just work here. I live here.

and I STILL feel that people are just being ridiculous about this whole thing. there were not many places in the city that you couldn't view the towers from. they were towers, after all.

we need to move on and stop with this persecution. enough already. Islam didn't do this. HATE did. and we are just perpetuating it.

I really do not understand what this mosque has to do with the people who hijacked the planes on 9/11. Maybe I'm being naive, but I REALLY don't get it. They claimed to be acting out of their faith, but do those of you who are Christian think that the Christian extremists who've MURDERED DOCTORS who perform abortions had anything to do with you and your faith? Because I see it as no different. Extremists are just that and just because they claimed that it was in the name of Islam shouldn't mean the rest of the Muslim community should pay the price for it. I'm sorry, I just don't see how they're related.

Re: Having trouble understanding this - Mosque at WTC site

i wanted to add that i do feel the mosque will not be built there in the end. Just like you see the trends of mosques not being built in many NY areas due to protests. This is what the terrorist will take with them when teaching their hate. That we don't like all muslims we hate all that they see is true. We are just adding fuel to a fire that has been long burning. They generalize just like "we" do.

But, my guess is, it's the mosques we don't know about where the hate is being preached. Not the ones open to the public and on the news. I don't doubt that there ARE places in the city where extremists are practicing, I just don't think this is going to be the place.
The only way I would say to not build it is if there is proof that an extremist group or person is funding it. Then, I would say no to it wherever it was going to be built. But again, there are extremists in every religion who are the exception, NOT the norm.
