help! diaper rash that isn't responding to diaper cream
DS's rash started with a strange little 1" dot, it came and went, but never seem to affected by cream, we didn't think anything of it. Then it grew, now its almost all over, but its not responding to creams, not A&D, not desitin, not triple paste...
We see ped on Wed, but for now, what can I do...
He's running around bottomless, cause I figure it might help to give the are some air.

Re: help! diaper rash that isn't responding to diaper cream
it could be a yeast infection. whenever my girls had a diaper rash that didn't respond to creams and lots of air time (no diaper time), it was a yeast infection. I would put a little lotriman on it and it would start to get better in a day or two. but call the ped first.

Re: help! diaper rash that isn't responding to diaper cream
Are you using sensitive wipes? I know DS had a horrible, horrible diaper rash that looked like it was about to bleed and we got a prescription for it but even that didn't work. Someone on here suggested stop using the sensitive wipes and sure enough, we switched to the regular wipes and his rash went away in less than 24 hours.

Re: help! diaper rash that isn't responding to diaper cream
Ughhhhh we have been dealing with this for over 2wks now. Ped thought it was yeast so we have Nystantin, but nothing is helping. Slathering her with Vasaline seems to work best, but nothing seems to take it away. SHe goes bottomless and nothing works. We have to go back since now they think it's a bacterial infection?????? She gets bad diaper rash from teething, but it has never been this bad or this untreatable. We have tried A&D reg, A&D with Zinc, Triple Paste, Bourdeaux(?) Butt Paste, Baby Powder, Bourdeauz(?) rash gaurd, sensative wipes and diapers, airing out the butt, Nystantin, Vasoline....NOTHING works

Re: help! diaper rash that isn't responding to diaper cream
Definitely air her out as much as possible. When DS had a horrible diaper rash the Ped prescribed Nystatin. I used that in the morning and at night. During the day I used hydricortizone. I also used baby powder cornstarch to make sure he was dry. Once the area began to clear up I stopped using the Rx and hydricortizone (this started to dry his skin up bad to the point that it started to peel) and used baby powder, aquaphor and Desitin extra strength. This is the only mixture that seemed to work. Once I see a rash coming I use baby powder, aquaphor and triple paste and it goes away pretty fast. I've noticed that once he starts teething he gets diarrhea and diarrhea leads to rashes. For three weeks I was losing my mind trying to figure out what was the cause of his rashes.
At night I slather him up with aquaphor and Desitin though because sometimes he has a night bowel movement. I also switched to sensitive wipes-no alcohol, fragrance free. The Pamper brand wipes didn’t help. I’ve been using the Bjs brand wipes.

Re: help! diaper rash that isn't responding to diaper cream
Just wondering if you found a solution to your diaper rash problem?
My week old DS has a raging red diaper rash that actually started in the hospital. It surprised me to see it there since he was in the NICU, where they took SUCH good care of him. I've only tried Desitin, so far, because that's what the docs said, but we see no improvement. At one point on Monday, there was a little spot of blood on his hiney.
I'm assuming I can't let my boy go diaperless to air it out since he'll pee all over the place?
Any suggestions? Thanks!
(P.S. - just cracked myself up because I realized I initally wrote that my "DH" has a diaper rash. I'm not used to writing "DS"!!!)

instead of a wipe - when and if it's that bad - i SWEAR by: California Baby Non Burning & Calming Diaper Area Wash...i spray that on her butt and she calms down INSTANTLY. I then follow up with California Baby Calming Diaper Rash Cream. As a side note - it's also a great boo boo spray! :)
you can usually find them at Target (pricey - but 100% worth it to me)

Re: help! diaper rash that isn't responding to diaper cream
If she starts getting a little red I stop using wipes and use wet paper towels an either Burts Bees or just Vaseline, clears her right up.

Try changing diapers. All of my kids are allergic to Huggies. For some reason they always break out in a rash.

Re: help! diaper rash that isn't responding to diaper cream
Another trick I just learned and dd is 15 months old is to put some kind of ointment on, vaseline, a&d etc, then the cream, destin, balmex, tripe paste. Constantly change diapers and when you have him laying down to change a diaper leave it off for a few put cover him so he doesn't pee all over.

Re: help! diaper rash that isn't responding to diaper cream
My son had that too and it turned out that his skin was too sensitive for the wipes we were using. I switched over to Earth's best wipes and got a cream from the doctor. In a day it was gone.

Re: help! diaper rash that isn't responding to diaper cream
Had trouble with this with DD. We did this:
Lots of diaper free time stopped using wipes and used wash clothes in warm soapy water dried her bottom off before putting on a new diaper
We switched to the target sensitive wipes and have been great since then!

Re: help! diaper rash that isn't responding to diaper cream
DS just got over a terrible rash and creams weren't helping. I ended up cleaning him with a warm wet washcloth when changing his diaper and at night I gave him his bath in luke warm water and baking soda. I still used cream (Balmex) and it cleared up in few days.

What diapers are you using? I poste din this thread earlier and FINALLY after 2 months realized my DD was allergic to the SENSATIVE diapers! Both Huggies and Pampers. We put her in cruisers and she has been just fine. I also switched her wipes as well. I suggest switching diapers, making your own wipes, and some triple paste. It works great. You can also add a Tablespoon of baking soda to his bath when it's time to bath him or add it to a big bowl of warm water to clean his tushy.

Re: help! diaper rash that isn't responding to diaper cream
My doctor prescribed Desonide
He said it didn't look like a yeast infection, looked more like irritation from sweat and diaper and a very active toddler. He basically told us, the rash will always come back until we potty train.
I have always been super careful about diaper changes. I almost never use wipes, I wash him in the shower. I use a gentle soap. I change him very often in the day. We never had a rash till he started really walking.
And after 10m, I started using cornstarch powder too!

I can't believe babies can be allergic to the actual diaper! Crazy!!! I'm using all the diapers we got from the hospital... Pampers Swaddlers. I just texted my DH to pick me up a bag of the Cruisers. I'll try anything! Thank you!!!

glad it works for some, but for us, it didn't work at all, made no difference, maybe because of the type of diaper rash?

Re: help! diaper rash that isn't responding to diaper cream
i had a similar experience with DD#2. she had a rash that lasted for practically a month, we went to the dr., got a prescription (even though he did not believe it was fungal), nothing worked...until...
a friend turned me onto it after i had tried everything, she reported a similar experience as well. rash was gone in 48 hours.
