I truly believe in my heart he won because people hated Hillary more. I do not think they were necessarily FOR Trump, but more so against Hillary. And now look what we've got. Ugh.
I agree. That's why my mom voted for him. She kept saying he was the lesser of two evils. She said she's hated Hillary since the 90s. I tried to show her the negatives of trump but she didn't seem to care.
If only the Republicans were able to get someone better who could have beat him. Or if only the Democratics had someone, anyone, other than her, I really believe things would have turned out much differently.
There were definitely better republican candidates (I voted for one in the primary!), but the media focused so much on Trump that he got a leg up on the rest of the field. The media made him and now he's calling the same media "fake" and what not. It's ridiculous.

I'm a Trump supporter but I don't have Twitter and I'm not really deeply into politics honestly.
He does act immature I'll admit but he'll learn. I remember Bush Jr. sounding like a complete bumbling fool but he practiced his speeches or something and got better.
A brand new teacher or news anchor or anything will improve with experience.
To OP i think this post sums up the mind of a Trump supporter
That's a bit mean.
Yes. And you all wonder why nobody posts anymore.
Does that really surprise anyone. The amount of venom that is spewed about Trump on how he is racist, the anti Christ, going to ruin everyone's lives comes from people being no better than he is spewing their own stereotypes and passive aggressive comments. Just because people do not think the same as you (the collective you) does mean you can tear apart every single thing someone says. It is absolutely ridiculous. The election is over. The end. Change is this country starts with the people not with the President and the way I'm seeing the Democrats act, I don't know if we would have been any better if the election results were different.
I'm not on LIF that often anymore, when I do, I try and avoid the FHF board as much as possible. I just never knew how different my beliefs were from so many others on LI. Unless its just a weird demographic on here, I don't know.
The last time I posted anything political I was told to not bother trying to post anything pro-Trump on here and stick with FB boards instead. I took that advice for the most part.
I got attacked on this thread because I said that Trump has potential to improve like ANYONE starting ANYTHING new to them.

He's 70. He is who he is, he's not going to change or grow or be any different than the person he's been for the last 70 yrs. To improve you first have to recognize that you have faults. An egomaniac like a Trump doesn't have the capacity to be that self aware and subsequently grow and better himself.

This is what i meant. Sorry if that reply came off mean I really didnt know how to word what I wanted to say. He is 70 and NOT a new teacher or news anchor. You can even compare being a POTUS to those professions. You cant even compare him to Bush. Usually a PEOTUS has some experience in govt- he does not. Plus the poster said she isnt into politics which leads me to think that she (and maybr other Trump supporters?) are really not paying close attention. This may very well be the profile of the average supporter? Idk.
I do know that those that voted against Hillary now need to take a stand!!!!

Maybe I'm not reading into the post as you both are, and I guess coming from the other side anything seems like an attack, but I didn't read it as such. To me, it just sounds like she's saying that this particular poster summed up the thoughts of most Trump supporters - that they acknowledge that he lacks experience but they feel it's something that can be learned "on the job" (which I disagree with but she's entitled to think so).

My little vent wasn't just about one comment on this thread but the overall lack of respect for anyone that did not vote for Hillary. It's been going on for months.

Agreed. If we were seeing the transition to a PE Rubio or Kasich or even Bush III (tho that dynasty stuff makes me want to throw up in my mouth, HRC included) I don't think there would be this hysterically partisan tone. Trump is just so dangerous and repugnant and undignified, it's an impossible pill to swallow. But that's who people picked. Go fig. Leaves me

It's so true when you go to Facebook boards and posts, it's an entirely different tone regarding Trump. It's one sided here on LIF, but then again, it's only a handful of people who go on and on saying the same things.

Well sure, if you stay in a little Trump bubble where everyone only pats each others asses and talks about how great Trump will be while ignoring every horrific thing he is doing to our country of course you're gonna get a different tone.

Yeah there are 40+ million other morons who voted for the immature, undisciplined, antagonistic, buffoon and are for some reason proud of it. It's unreal.

Well sure, if you stay in a little Trump bubble where everyone only pats each others asses and talks about how great Trump will be while ignoring every horrific thing he is doing to our country of course you're gonna get a different tone.
No, it's called a much broader spectrum than a few housewives on LIF in the LI bubble.
Yeah there are 40+ million other morons who voted for the immature, undisciplined, antagonistic, buffoon and are for some reason proud of it. It's unreal.
And we wonder why the Trump supporters have stopped posting.

That comment is very Trump of you. It's amazing that you are emulating the behavior that you are so adamantly against.

Not a valid response at all. Whatever your job title is doesn't give you the right to talk down and name call a group of people with no basis of fact. The hypocrisy just amazes me.

Why is it that the behavior is ok for the guy you (general you) voted to be next president, but not for someone who doesn't support him? Why do they get called "just like Trump", the guy YOU support? ( again, general you)... You acknowledge he's an ass yet you support him anyway?

If only the Republicans were able to get someone better who could have beat him. Or if only the Democratics had someone, anyone, other than her, I really believe things would have turned out much differently.
There were definitely better republican candidates (I voted for one in the primary!), but the media focused so much on Trump that he got a leg up on the rest of the field. The media made him and now he's calling the same media "fake" and what not. It's ridiculous.
There definitely were- too bad Evan McMullin did not get in sooner. But yes- ironic how Trump is bashing the media now- there was a time when he could call into any morning news show and was the only candidate who was able to get air time on a regular basis. He was calling Morning Joe several times a week if not daily for a while.

I have never condoned Trumps behavior. I have said numerous times that he sticks his foot in his mouth and needs to get off of social media. And yes I can acknowledge that he is an ass but voting for Hillary (and it really doesn't matter if anyone agrees with me) would have had me voting for a bigger ass.
Both sides put up crappy options so there was no win either way. I am far from a Trump cheerleader but I do agree in theory with some of what he is saying. I am also willing to hear his plans before I start jumping to conclusions on how he is ruining the country. Obviously people do not agree and that is fine. All i have been asking for the months leading up to and after the election is that people are respectful and calling people names and stereotyping people are uncalled for. You can be a republican and have compassion for your fellow man, they are not mutually exclusive.

I think the Republican idea of "compassion" has a very murky definition. How can you be compassionate to taking away health insurance for millions of people?

His ludicrous behavior is part of the package. To accept him and support him you have to accept his behavior. You can't say "well, he's an ass but he has wonderful ideas. I'm concerned with his MANY conflicts of interest, but he sure is skilled at foreign policy! He may be taunting China and in bed with Russia, and that sure makes me uneasy, but man is he a wonderful negotiator or what?!"
He's showing no signs of slowing down or growing the fukc up at 70 years old and turning a new leaf with his shit.ty behavior. He's full steam ahead. If you accept him, you have to be ok with his behavior, even if reluctantly.
And I like that you bring up the fact that you can be a republican and have compassion for others. And while I agree completely that is not something I'm seeing from most republicans. Especially not when mrsdiamondgirlie makes comments about those that are less fortunate than her family and how she shouldn't have to pay a dime to help them, they should figure it out for themselves. This is America after all, land of fukc you. Where's the compassion? You can be optimistic but people are justified in feeling true fear, especially with EVERYTHING that surrounds this man, the corruption, conflicts of interest, the baiting crazed leaders, the secrecy around what's to replace the ACA. Are you confident it will be replaced satisfactorily, considering what's to come is shrouded in secrecy? We know very little about their plans because they don't even know themselves what's to come. Are you cool with that? Just flying by the seat of your pants, playing it by ear? You singled out Elizarags and said she's behaving like the very guy you support to lead the country. That's hypocritical. Where is the compassion for her? For her fears, with everything she's been through with her DD who is now going to be diagnosed with a condition that will not only impact her quality of life but may impede her from getting quality health coverage if ACA is repealed and not replaced with a suitable policy. Where is the compassion for all the people and all the families that will be impacted by all Trump's asinine ideas? Where does gay marriage stand? Anti-discrimination for transgendered? All the people that fear Trump provoking dictators in other nations and wanting an arms race? All the people who fear Trump's ties to Russia and Russia's interference with OUR ELECTION? Those that fear a tax increase when they're barely getting by as is? All the people that fear the fact that he'll change his stance on an issue seven times in one sitting, will deny he said something when it's easily verifiable and there's documented footage? That's all easy to dismiss, right? Who cares as long as the other one is out, right? All I hear is "liberal tears", "snowflake", and the disgustingly repulsive term "libtard"? How is that compassion? It's always one-sided isn't it? It seems the compassion is only supposed to come from one side. Go high when they go low, right? Except make sure you can go as disgustingly low as possible, wallow in the mud if you have to, to drag them down with you. Obviously, going high didn't and doesn't work with this group of mostly narrow-minded people. Many of them are immune even to reason and logic. And that's what people are responding to.

I can not answer that until Trump takes office and the new plan is announced. I can't debate a policy that has not be presented yet.

It's unfortunate that what started as political has turned personal. I can empathize with that, especially since you seem to be luke-warm on Trump.
I just think that so much of what has been streaming across the news policy-wise has been so anxiety-provoking because they are changes that strike very close to home, and that anger is being directed at the individuals who put him in power.
I mean - you see how things have exploded since the repeal began, and we have Donald on the news saying that "everyone" will be "beautifully covered," but when you ask him for details, he says, "I'm not going to share the details yet" - so more of the feigned secrecy that is really a cover for lack of ideas. And the lack of ideas means that people will get sick and die while they figure it out. That is personal, and it is infuriating.
The same goes for a tax plan that raises taxes on, of all people, single moms who lose the head of household credit while repealing estate tax that only affects multi-millionaires and otherwise shoveling money toward the rich. That is personal, and it is infuriating.
The same goes for baiting N. Korea and suggesting nuclear proliferation to the world over via Twitter while simultaneously disparaging NATO (alliances that help keep us safe and give us leverage) in public commentary. That makes people feel unsafe in there homes, which is personal and infuriating.
And it is all the more personal and infuriating because we are the popular majority, and there is a maddening powerlessness in having to eat the consequences of your vote when we saw this coming during the campaign and had the good sense to decide against it.
I'm not trying to excuse attacks or name-calling, but I don't hear Trump supporters who have really been sobered by what has transpired since the election or touched by the very real ways his policies could destroy people's lives. It would be less personal and infuriating, I think, if we heard some acknowledgment of that beyond the vague "He's no prize" and "Sure, he's bat-sh*t crazy" that I've seen on here while we're told to "give him a chance."

I can not answer that until Trump takes office and the new plan is announced. I can't debate a policy that has not be presented yet.
And that is what scares so many. The new Congress IS in office, and all they've made public is their plans to repeal the ACA as soon as possible. Other than "something better", the GOP hasn't made public any plans on how to replace the ACA.
If there was honestly an actual plan that people could look at, I don't think there would be this extreme reaction that we're seeing. People have no choice but to expect the worst, given the record from the past 8 years of the GOP people in power in Congress. With Ryan and McConnell, there is no "let's give them a chance". They've had 8 years, and they've proven what they are capable of.
If the school bully (Congress) has been trying to steal your lunch every year in elementary school, but the lunch monitors kept stopping him, would you give him your lunch in High School just because he promised to give you something "much better, trust me" in exchange, even though there are no more lunch monitors?
(I'm intentionally using GOP because I truly don't believe the GOP in Congress represents the average Republicans who voted them in.)
