honestly - who brings their own bags to the grocery store?
I'm in the store at least once a week and I've NEVER seen someone bring their own bags.
I'm curious to know who really does this every time they go (or almost every time)!

I do...I bought the bags that Stop & Shop sells...They are totally worth it in my opinion. You can fit so much more in them & it is a lot easier to bring the packages into the house without the bags breaking or things falling out...

Curious, how much does S&S charge for them? I was there last weekend, but didn't notice them. (I'm sure that's b/c I was in lala land, though)

Re: honestly - who brings their own bags to the grocery store?
I have two of the insulated S&S bags which I always try to bring (so I can get other errands done after shopping if necessary).
I also have two regular bags from IGA that I keep in my car and try to use for all misc shopping (but mostly only remember them when I'm at CVS).

i do only when i have a small list. i only have three bags (almost as big as the paper ones) to shop with. if i buy more, i'll do a full shopping list with them.

Re: honestly - who brings their own bags to the grocery store?
We do. We have big canvas bags from Trader Joe's that hold a TON of stuff - we can usually get a week's worth of groceries in them! We have a bunch of bags that are different sizes. They're great for us, not only because they're reusable, but they're VERY strong, plus they're easier to carry and since we walk to the grocery store most of the time, they are much more convenient than a bunch of smaller plastic bags.
ETA: We'll sometimes leave bags in the trunks of our car, so if either of us stops on the way home or while we're out doing other things, we already have them with us.

The non-insulated are $.99 & the insulated is $1.99. I have 2 of each. The insulated comes in very handy especially in the summer months

Agreed!! I like that I can sling them over my shoulder and still have my hands free for other bags or stuff.

I do...they're great too, because they hold so much more than the plastic bags. DH was very about it the 1st time I did it, but he got use to it.
But you're right, I NEVER see anyone doing it.

I bring these too! I love them! They are totally worth the 99 cents. I think I am getting them as an extra little gift for my sisters for Christmas.

Re: honestly - who brings their own bags to the grocery store?
ok, I've always had guilt about that. Spending summers with my family in germany in the 70's and 80's, I know everyone always brought their own bags..... yet the cost of buying all those bags is becuase we require sooo many more than my family on the other side of the pond does (they also shop for food every other day, and carry their food home on the bus).
I'm soooo going to stop and shop
thanks for the FYI
(but I'm not sure what I'll do for trash bags then )

Re: honestly - who brings their own bags to the grocery store?
wow, so I guess if you usually carry about 10 bags from the supermarket, do you buy say 5 or 6 of the green bags?

This is what I worry about. I buy one VERY full shopping cart of groceries per week...
The other concern I have is cleanliness. Can the bags be washed? What if my chicken package (despite the fact that I put it in 2 plastic bags) leaks or something?
