I have a stupid question!! When you get up to the cash register, do you tell the cashier that you have your own bags? Do you give him/her one of your bags, while you are both packing up the groceries?
I always have them bag my groceries and I just hand them over. If I forget, when they ask "paper or plastic" I tell them I've brought my own and pass them over.
Some grocery stores give you a discount, so it's best to mention it before they do your total.

I bring them to Whole Foods b/c its usually a planned trip. I also have a Waldbaum's bag that I bought. Problem is, I usually forget it!

We use them. I love them. They go right into my trunk and are SO much stronger than the plastic bags. I open them up in the cart and use the personal scanner that S&S has now and load up the bags as I go through the store.

I do...I bought the bags that Stop & Shop sells...They are totally worth it in my opinion. You can fit so much more in them & it is a lot easier to bring the packages into the house without the bags breaking or things falling out...

actually - i use my fabric LIW bags LOL! ron and kim hand them out at events and i have like four of them and since i never do a TON of shopping b/c it is just DH and i - four bags work for me!  so i use those - good for LIW and the environment hahaha

When I remember I do - I have canvas bags - I used to do it all the time - especially when I lived in Vermont - no one used the plastc bag - every store sold these big awesome canvas bags!!!

I do. I have been doing it for years. I used to use this very 70's net crochet thing that I got at my aunt's local co-op. Well things of course fall through the holes so I stopped using it for when I shopped for smaller items, but I used it for my produce & stuff. I am so glad that so many stores are now selling re-usable bags!

I brought a bunch of used Shoprite bags to Shoprite this week - they give you 2 cents per bag that you reuse...so why not!

I really want to do this - but I use the plastiuc bags to pick up my dog's poop (ahhhhhhhh, city living )
Anyone have a suggestion?
Maybe I could buy a few anyway, and just get LESS plastic bags?

If I can ever remember to bring them to the store, I would use them..LOL...But, most of the time, my plastic bags are used for smelly diapers.

I have a bunch of tote bags from work related events, and we keep a small one in the car for little things, and have another that we bring for medium planned trips to Whole Foods , but we don't use them for major weekly Shop & Stop trips, yet.
On a side note--DH told the Barnes & Noble clerk he didn't need a bag for his 1 book & she said he had to to take it for security reasons!
