How long do/did you plan to breastfeed?
I'm hoping to EBF for 1 year but I go back to work after 4 months. I think I'll be able to go 6 months EBF easily but don't know about after that. Just curious how other moms/working moms lasted.

I breastfed my daughter until she was just over 2. I plan to do the same with my son (he's now almost 3 weeks).

Re: How long do/did you plan to breastfeed?
Ryan is 10 months and we are still EBF. My goal when I got pregnant was to make it to a year and so far I am right on track.
But I will say it helps that I am a SAHM.

Re: How long do/did you plan to breastfeed?
until he begins to teethe (unless he does not try to *chew* me) then I will BF as long as I can. Each child is different, so I am not really ready at 9 weeks to put an end date. I'd like to see 6 mos if I can. I was only able to BF for 4 mos with DS #1. This time my milk came in a lot stronger, and seems to be maintaining better.

i'm having trouble with just 3 weeks! The first few months can be hard. It gets better I agree. The first few weeks, your body is healing and you're adjusting to the needs of a newborn. It does get easier.
Charlotte is 10.5m and we are still EBF. I would like to go at least the year...I plan on stopping when she weans naturally (within reason, of course LOL). She also has 8 teeth. The first week her first 2 teeth came in was more painful than the first week of her life. Every so often she will still nip me but it's really not enough to stop nursing.

Re: How long do/did you plan to breastfeed?
I wanted to BF for a year, but my son never latched on so I exclusively pumped for 8 months...it was a long time!

Re: How long do/did you plan to breastfeed?
I feel terrible after hearing how long everyone went... but I stopped when my DD was 4 weeks old... she seemed to always be hungry and I was not feeding her enough at a time- she enjoyed the formula and became fuller and happier with it, so I stopped breastfeeding.
With the next child, my hope is to go at least 2 months...

Re: How long do/did you plan to breastfeed?
I had a really tough beginning to bf'ing. At first I just wanted to make it to 2 weeks, then 6 then 8weeks. Then I set a 6 month goal. Finally I said ok at a year. And then when ds was almost 12 months I got pregnant. I found out right after his birthday. Then we continued to nurse for another couple months. Ds self weaned at 14 months. One day he just stopped. I was sad but dh pointed out I would have to start all over again in a few months. I hope I can nurse #2 until s/he self weans as well.

Re: How long do/did you plan to breastfeed?
I planned to BF for 3 months, then I wanted to for 6 months, but stopped at 4 months because it was too hard after I went back to work.

Re: How long do/did you plan to breastfeed?
We made it 10 months. After that, DD decided she was done. She would turn away and push me away. I pumped for a few more weeks and then stopped. Thankfully I had a stockpile so she's still getting BM, although that's almost gone. My goal was to make it to 1 year and she's now 11 months.

Re: How long do/did you plan to breastfeed?
I BF DS for 1 year. I had to stop b/c of emergency surgery. Had I not had to stop, I would have liked to continue for a month or two more, but since I already had an abrupt stop, I did not want to confuse DS by starting up again only to stop a few weeks later.

Re: How long do/did you plan to breastfeed?
DD is almost 7 wks and EBF...I go back to work in 5wks (BOO!) but I have been stock piling my milk in the freezer and will continue to pump and work....I would like to EBF as long as I possibly can, but I know I can't live my life attached to my pump, so we'll see. The thought of having to give her formula makes me want to cry...I love BFing

Re: How long do/did you plan to breastfeed?
I had hoped to go at least a year with both my children but it didn't happen with either. DD quit latching after a Neocate trial so I ended up pumping until she was 7 months.
DS was not doing well and I just couldn't stick to eliminating food after food so we stopped at 5 months with him. He's doing a lot better on Neocate so I guess it makes me feel a little better but still sad.

Re: How long do/did you plan to breastfeed?
I EBF for 6 months. I wanted to continue but my milk just dried up. I took a medication that was supossed to increase supply, pumped often, did everything I could think of and called a lactation consultant. I would have continued to 1 year if I could have.
Also, I work full time and travel so there were times where I had to pump for 4 or 5 days without seeing DD and that is what I think led to my milk drying up.

Re: How long do/did you plan to breastfeed?
I pumped for Molly for 1 year exclusively. For Jason I pumped for the first 2 months he was home but because it was adoptive breastfeeding I was never able to make more than 1 full bottle a day. If I had been making 1/2 of his needs I would have continued. But pumping 6x a day for 30-40 minutes each for 8oz was very draining on me. If I have another child I will figure out a way to breastfeed for the first year as well.

Re: How long do/did you plan to breastfeed?
I EBF both my children for 11 months, I would of went longer but Julia got an ear infection and just didn't want it anymore, and Todd Jr decided to bite me, and thats what the end of it--lol I think its funny how they both stopped at the same month.
