Around 2 months. I filed until then but it is so much faster to clip-once you get used to it.

she was about a month old, she was sleeping and I made her bleed. I cried, she didn't even notice.

Initially we filed them. Around 3 months, his hands looked bigger so we thought we could handle clipping them.
Big mistake! We snipped his finger and it bled for over an hour, him screaming the whole time, probably because he didn't like the direct pressure. No harm was done, but if you choose to cut, do it with excellent light and be really careful. So now I'm back to filing until he's bigger still.
