Re: I am so furious right now!

I am fighting back the tears

we were so excited to move here- we were talking about buying in the building

we loved it all weekend- and now I just want to leave

if you saw the look on this womans face- you would have wanted to hit her- so smug- and they way she slammed the door on the other woman who was complaining

it's just gross

this is "one of the best" building in bayside-

Wow, I can't believe it's taking a turn for the worst. They are definitely trying to hide something. I hope you guys hold your ground, at this point it's not about the car and a matter of principle. Good Luck Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I am so furious right now!

Wow Beth. I thought all of this would be resolved by now. The woman at the garage wont even let you see the tapes? That sounds fishy to me. Like they are trying to cover something up.

Did you talk to the other woman who's car was keyed? Did you tell her what happened to Jake's car?

I don't blame you for wanting out. I'm sorry for that though, since you were so psyched about this new apt. building.

I do not think that is the right way to approach the situation, by telling everyone in the building. I think right now, you should be concentrating on calling your insurance company, keeping on top of your lawyer, and getting yourself out of the building.

Re: I am so furious right now!

You should post a notice by the door of the building where everyone can see it so that everyone knows what is going on and that they should pull thier cars out of that garage. Maybe you can put an anonymous email address and get people to write you if they have had problems in that garage too, if you have a lot of people with problems maybe they can do something major against this garage. I would def call the media and see what they can do for you, I am sure they would love a story like this! I still dont understand why this woman is trying to cover up a crime! I hope they hold her partially responsible if she is not cooperating with the police.

ETA: There are a lot of major issues in my building, and one tenant has been putting up posts by the doorway where everyone can see them about what the issues are and the steps he/she has been taken to try to get an answer from the owners of the building. I think its very helpful that someone is trying to improve things for everyone and in a way, keeping us updated on what is going on. I dont know who this person is, they dont write who they are, but they put up an email address so that people can write to them and let them know that they are willing to petition against the leasing company. Since this person started doing this, there have been some changes which were not addressed before this person started to rally everyone in the building. I dont think you are doing the wrong thing by telling people what happened. Maybe something happened to this persons car and they thought that it was not possible since it was in a garage, and now that they are hearing others having problems are believe that it really was the garages fault.

What about the co-op manager? Has she been any help? Is she even aware of so many complaints against the garage?

she has no control over the gargage and refuses to help us

she told us today we just had to deal with the gargage company- and not her anymore

I am sure she knows- she keeps changing her story as well

I really just want to move- but not with out all of my money back

Re: I am so furious right now!

My understanding is that when a co-op has a garage, the co-op owns it and they outsource the management to a third party. If this is the case, since the damage took place on co-op property, it is possible the co-op could be liable for some (if not all) of the damages. This might explain her behavior. Not to mention, people who are on co-op boards usually volunteer for the position - so this is probably just a big pain for her. Not only will she have to make sure your car gets fixed, but she will most likely have to find a new company to manage the garage. I know that this information wont make you feel any better though, just thought it might help you understand better....

I was going to name them building in the law suit as well-

I just feel so violated- I don't even want to go back there and this is my home

not to mention the toliet overflowed yesterday- when no one was home

all of my rugs are wrecked- I broke down and cried that last night- it's really a terrible feeling- esp when no one is helping you and taking your side

the police can't do anything with out the tapes- as of now it's just a civil matter

Re: I am so furious right now!

Quote: While i know your DH loves his car and such, I can tell you right off the bat how the garage is going to handle this case. If its such a cool car and collectors item, the garage and any defending lawyer is going to argue that it should have been garaged privately. If you look at the T&Cs of the garage, there is most likely a 25k liability limit. If you car is worth more than that, you are *supposed* to pay extra to garage there. Most garages don't advertise this because its not in their best interest to do so, but I am sure its there. So they will argue you didn't pay more to have it properly insured.

This is exactly what I said.

Why wouldn't this be a criminal matter since the car was technically stolen?

I am sorry this is happening and I hope you get some resolution quickly.

For your protection, I would be careful about what you are publicly saying about the garage manager, co-op manager, etc -- it could be considered libel/slander/defamation of character which if pressed hard enough they may fire back at you (they don't sound like the most trustworthy lot).

Good luck.

Re: I am so furious right now!

the isn't a collectors item- it is to Jake- but not techinally- it's just a regular car

I leased the apartment from the building- not from a shareholder

I don't see what they would want me to stay-
