Re: I JUST GOT LAID OFF!
I am so sorry
You mentioned that you were not being made permanent -- did you have a contract or something for your temp status?
Congrats on the baby!!!!

if the lateness issue is due to your pregnancy and you can get doctor records, and there was no prior warning
you have a case on your hands
I agree with this, and I cna get you a lawyer referral. I know someone going through something similar. Was fired due to lateness which stems from a medical issue.

Re: I JUST GOT LAID OFF!
look at it this way
even if there was a prior warning and you don't have a case
threaten a lawsuit anyway
companies hate that
it's bad for their image and it costs them time and money
at the very least, you'll get some form of a settlement

it's true and as I said, I've had quite a bit of success doing this, and in particular, in your case, you DO have a valid claim. In most of these cases the employer just assumes that the employee has no clue. But the second you hire an attorney and send a letter, the sh!t hits the fan and I bet they'll come running to you with a nice little settlement to avoid the costs associated with hiring an attorney for this kind of claim.

Re: I JUST GOT LAID OFF!
Congrats on your pregnancy!!
I was in a similar position when I was pg the first time. My company was acquired and 2 months later I was laid off. I was 5 months pg. When I asked why I was chosen they didn't answer. I suspect that they let me go bc I kept questioning the new company's policies. I knew it wasn't performance or client related, in fact the client was very upset they let me go.
So when they gave me my serverance agreement, I told them I needed more time bc I'm having a lawyer review it. They immediately offered to keep me on the insurance at no cost to me until an additional 3 months after I had the baby. They also agreed to give me an additional 8 weeks salary. At that point I didn't mind bc I hated my job and didn't plan on going back after the baby.
Good luck! You are still early enough in your pregnancy where you don't have to disclose anything to a new employer. In the mean time, I would file for unemployment immediately.

However, employers cannot choose NOT to hire you on the sole basis of your being pregnant. Does it happen realistically, yes. Is it legal, no. I would still get out there and apply in the meantime. So sorry that this happened to you. Hopefully you can find something soon!
ETA: If you can have a doctor provide medical documentation certifying your lateness was due to your pregnancy, than you may be able to fight this.
This happened to my mother 25 years ago. She was working for some scumbag. She was working on a temp-to-perm job. One Friday her boss told her not to come in on Monday - and she said she would be back on Tuesday and he said "No, I mean don't bother coming back at all" and she asked why and he said "Well we don't really think you're a good fit being pregnant and all". Well she called my father, burst into tears. He told her to get out of there but she insised in finishing out the day. She then filed a lawsuit. He said that my mother had been late and missed several days because of Dr. appointments, being sick. She provided court with statments from her Dr. saying she was perfectly healthy and had only been to regularly scheduled appointments and that there was no reason she couldn't work.
To make a long story short, she was awarded several months of salary. Apparently the look on the guys face was just priceless and worth it all.
