And NO do not wait for that final attack that sends you to the ER. That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. My last attack lasted 8 long hours.... So much worse than labor... Get it out now!
Please see my post above that I already have an appt. I was kidding about waiting. I take action immed, but thanks.

My sister had hers out last year after years of putting it off and horrible attacks
Her recover was great!
So what you're saying is I can put this off? Lol
I've had attacks for the last year. I'm actually kind of annoyed that after two er visits and three gastroenterologists it was finally figured out. Lesson to be your own advocate when you think something is wrong don't stop until you figure it out.
You can but don't. Because then you'll end up in the ER like me with excruciating pain worse than labor that hasn't gone away in 3 days and you are vomiting every time you try to eat anything. And then you'll have no choice. Better to do it now on your terms and planned out! Because you dont' want an attack while on vacation or something
Sure you can. If you're OK living with the attacks. And everything mentioned above.
I had a few attacks. Literally curled up in a fetal position on the floor was the only was I could get comfort. When they told me what it was I wanted to run to the hospital for the surgery! But I had it scheduled and just prayed I didn't have another attack.
My sister got so bad she became jaundice bc one was stuck in a duct.

This!! I had infrequent attacks for years and just dealt with it then all of a sudden the attacks came closer and closer together and were worse.
Because I waited so long my gallbladder was adhering to my insides. The doctor told me that I was on the cusp of having to be opened up the long way. Luckily he was able to get it all out microscopically but because it was so bad my recovery was worse then most.
Even so I'm so glad I did it and only wish I would have done it sooner. I did the bad side effect of diarrhea for a while while my body adjusted to no gallballder. I hear its common so just a heads up.

What?!?! So, so sorry!!! Definitely don't blame you for wanting to do your own research. You're looking for a general surgeon?

General surgeon, but who would specialize in gallbladder, etc.

Mine was an emergency removal. The surgeon that took it out was Dr. Atwa. I do recommend him, he was great. He is affiliated with Mather and St. Charles. He is one of the doctors who introduced the bariatric surgery.

Same thing happened to me. Mine was really quick it was 1 week from start of attacks to being in the ER, after dr visits. My last attack was 5 hours long. That when I drove myself for eh ER. My liver numbers were sky high by that time. Becoming jaundice. It's been a month since my surgery. It was really easy for me. I had a newborn at home too. The first day or 2 were hard. But I wasn't in to much pain. I'd get a sharp pain here and there and the incisions would get itchy. No stitches. They are still fading and healing but not bad. I had 4 incisions. I have a few bouts of stomach issues after I eat and have to run to the bathroom but they aren't all The time and I'm just happy I don't have those awful attacks anymore.

Yes I do have to warn you about the diarrhea bouts afterwards. But those fade over time and are still SOOO much better than the painful attacks so I'll take it. I stocked up on Immodium and it was my best friend..
As far as you girl's and taking care of them... you will be fine in a week. I was back at work in a week but felt better even sooner.
Just try to have some help for the first few days. My DH was off for a day or so after I had it out.
I was never in any excruciating pain. Just sore and a little slow moving.

I need to have my gall bladder out. HELP
Hey just words of encouragement.. My 75 yr old aunt had hers done just two weeks ago. She was up and walking that day. Never took a single pain pill. I think you'll be ok :)
She had to give up all her spicy foods but she has been extra careful about gassy foods and has no issues with her movements.

same here. Your body needs time to adjust and realize your gall bladder is gone, so you have to watch what you eat for a few weeks after. I also recommend taking a good probiotic as well.

Re: I need to have my gall bladder out. HELP - UPDATE
UPDATE
So I met with Dr, Halpern today in Mineola. Liked him. He also discovered I have an umbilical hernia in my belly button that he would fix at the same time. That will add to the recovery and I won't be able to lift for 6 weeks. Impossible to do with a 1 year old. The 3 year old is pretty self sufficient but still in a crib.
Will meet with one more surgeon next Friday, make my decision and schedule.

I have an appt with Halpern in Mineola. Also going to set up an appointment with Zinagle in Huntington who my gastro and internist recommended.
Any feedback on either?
I used Halpern no issues - all I remember waiting in the waiting room for the follow up consult took forever

This is not true. Now that my gallbladder is out I can eat whatever I want. Before, when I had issues with it, fatty foods would cause an attack. Now it's great. I had asked the surgeon and he told me the same- no diet restrictions. Trust me, I eat a TON of fatty foods. That's the beauty of being rid of it- no more pain and attacks when you do eat fatty foods.

Your body will process the fats differently with the gallbladder gone. I find that after the gallbladder was removed yes no more attacks, but excess fat will cause, ummm... yeah.

LOL yup! I love Imodium.
And because I'm a nerd I did some research as to why. Your gallbladder holds bile from your liver and releases it slowly as you eat fats to help disgust those fats. When they remove it, they connect your bile ducts right into your small instestine. So now when your liver releases bile it has no storage tank so to speak and just dumps all the bile at once into your intestines. And bile has a laxative effect. That's why you tend to get more diahrehha after it's removed. It's called bile dumping.
Ok, science lesson over!
