If you had your wisdom teeth pulled...
how long were you in pain and how long were you "home".
DH is getting his yanked tomorrow (Monday) and we are trying to figure out if he will need off from work Tuesday also. He is a little wussy (shh! ) when it comes to pain, and is face-to-face with customers all day at his job.
Hmmmm?

Re: If you had your wisdom teeth pulled...
I stayed home one day from work, but probably should have stayed home 2-3 days as I was in a decent amount of pain at work. I am a teacher and by the end of the day, my jaw would be so tired, I could barely talk.

Re: If you had your wisdom teeth pulled...
I had all four out on the same day. I was not in any pain, the following day... but it was a lifetime ago.
An extra day off from work might not be a bad thing since be works face to face with customers

Re: If you had your wisdom teeth pulled...
I had my 2 top wisdom teeth pulled the same day late in the afternoon. I only got local anesthesia and laughing gas. I went to work the next day. I really had little pain and bleeding but mine were not impacted and were fully in.

Re: If you had your wisdom teeth pulled...
I had a top one taken out last year with no anesthesia and that was nothing. I was back to work the next day and I had it out in the afternoon.
I just had a bottom one taken out a few months ago. That hurt a little, but I just came home and slept and went to work the next day.
Really depends on a few things like if DH is going under anesthesia, how many he is getting out, if they are impacted, etc.
Neither of mine were impacted.

Same here, except I wasn't eating steak! I lived off of soup and pureed foods for a day. I looked like someone punched me in the face once the novocaine wore off. I was okay about 2-3 days later once the swelling went down.

Re: If you had your wisdom teeth pulled...
I had it done 2 and 2.
the first two were just novacaine. but one of them had a corkscrew root, so there was a lot of afterpain - I would say 5 days (2 weekends and 3 workdays)
the second two, I was knocked out. It happened on a Sat and I was at work on Monday with little pain.

Re: If you had your wisdom teeth pulled...
The 2 top wisdom teeth were a piece of cake, I was back to work the next day. The 2 bottom were not so great, I was out of work almost the whole week.

Re: If you had your wisdom teeth pulled...
I had all four done at the same time (when I was 19) and they were all impacted. I was put under. The first day I was miserable laying on the couch and spitting blood. The second day was better but I wasn't fit for working yet, definitely wasn't eating normal foods. I worked the third day but I sported the chipmunk cheeks for a week.

Re: If you had your wisdom teeth pulled...
I think I scheduled my appt for my wisdome teeth for a Friday so I would have the weekend to recover if I needed it.... I could've easily gone back to work the next day.
I was sore for about a week or 2 after mostly because when I sleep I clench my jaw... nothing some Tylenol couldn't handle.
Also I took Tylenol the whole time from day one because Vicadin doesn't not sit well in my stomach.

Re: If you had your wisdom teeth pulled...
I needed more than one day afterwards, but my wisdom tooth extraction was somewhat complicated. I needed anesthesia and they were encapsulated in cysts. I would definitely take the next day off, but I do know people who were totally fine to work the next day.
I had them out on a Thursday in college. I was back in class on Monday, but I didn't do much Friday or Saturday. (Then I had dry socket, which knocked me out for another day..)

Re: If you had your wisdom teeth pulled...
I think it depends on the person. I had a pretty painful recovery.
I had all four out at once, under anesthesia (knocked out).
I ended up getting dry socket, and was in terrible pain (the pain killers I was given made me feel high so I refused to take them) which made my recovery a lot longer....about a week, maybe longer.
Make sure he doesn't drink through straws or do anything that could remove the blood clot from where the tooth was extracted.
Good luck!

Re: If you had your wisdom teeth pulled...
I agree it depends on the person.
I had my left 2 pulled at the same time, then the next week (or 2 weeks I forget) the right 2 were pulled.
For the left 2 I took the following day off work.
The right 2 I was able to go to work the next day.

Similar to my experience.
And also wanted to say DITTO on the straws. Drinking through a straw is also extremely painful.

I agree. My brother and I happened to get ours out the same week. He had all pain (throwing up, spitting blood etc), and no swelling, while I had almost no pain but immense swelling. I looked like a chipmunk for like a week. We both had all 4 out.

Re: If you had your wisdom teeth pulled...
i had all 4 pulled at once and they were all impacted into my jaw. i was down for the count for 5 days.
some people bounce right back b/c theirs aren't that bad, but i would allot at least a day if not more afterwards for recovery (i.e., teeth pulled on monday, recovery day tuesday, work if ok on wednesday).

Re: If you had your wisdom teeth pulled...
I had it done on a sat and sat night/sun morning I found out the pain meds made me really sick so I stopped taking them sun morning. I was in pain that day but was able to function. I went back to work on monday and although I was swollen and still in a bit of pain I was ok.
ETA: I only had 2 wisdom teeth so I only had 2 pulled.

Re: If you had your wisdom teeth pulled...
I was in bed for about three days STRAIGHT. However, my oral surgeon said I had the "worst case" he'd seen in over 15 years of oral surgery.
All four were impacted beneath bone and he was worried about nerve damage but luckily I didn't have that b/c some of my nerves were growing into the teeth that were completely impacted... but I turned out to be fine. I have 100% full feeling in my entire chin/mouth area.
I couldn't eat anything aside from like frozen yogurt for about TWO WEEKS. I had to go for daily check-ups to replace the dressings that were treating my dry sockets for two weeks as well.
I threw up from the anesthesia for two days out of the three I was on bed rest. It was a NIGHTMARE. He told me to have all four done at once because if he had let me do two and then two later on he said I would have never come back for the second two.
Then, my sister had surgery on a Friday and was back at work and eating everything on Monday. Everyone is different depending on the teeth and their situation.

I had mine done one at a time and I was fine that night. I just took the day off to get them pulled.

Yes all at once, but he only has 3, 1 never grew in.
