if you have/had a cyst on your ovary

Can you tell me what it felt like for you and if it went away by itself?

I had my first ultrasound last Tuesday, and they found a 4cm cyst on my right ovary. I had been feeling pain on my right side, which I guess was caused by the cyst. The pain comes and goes. Is that normal? Sometimes it's very uncomfortable and sometimes I feel nothing there. I'm so nervous though because the dr. said there's a chance of it twisting in on itself and I REALLY don't want to find out what that feels like. Chat Icon

I go for another ultrasound on Thursday so I guess they'll be able to see if it got bigger.

I read about this and its actually quite common. They say they go away on their own around the fourth month but until then it is quite an uncomfortable feeling. I've been getting those pains lately and my doctor thinks that it may a cyst causing the pain but my initial sono did not reveal anythig other than the babyChat Icon I have my NT scan next week so we'll see what is happening in there.

Re: if you have/had a cyst on your ovary

I have had cysts for over 15 years.

For me, I have either not felt them at all, or I have felt a radiating pain in my lower pelvic region that actually would radiate through my legs. Would feel almost like a really bad stomach ache or horrific menstrual cramps.

I have found a heating pad to really help the pain.

I was also always on the pill to try and combat the cysts, and only went off to conceive. I will be going right back on the pill as soon as I can.

Re: if you have/had a cyst on your ovary

I currently have a 4cm cyst on my left ovary and i'm 8 weeks. When i went for my appt 2 weeks ago my doctor saw it but told me do not worry about it. I knew there was something there before she did the ultrasound cause i had pains on that side. I immediately thought ectopic because my left side is where my only ovary is. Everything i have read says that they are fine and will go away on their own, but i still get nervous about it because the reason i only have 1 ovary is because of a 20 cm cyst that i had 12 years ago (not pregnancy related).

I go back to the Dr next Weds so i will ask my doctor more questions then but she wasn't concerned at all.

Re: if you have/had a cyst on your ovary

I had one with my ds #1 and it went away on it's own and I have one with this pregnancy too ~ it is still there ~ My doctor told me not to worry about it ~ I don't have any pain with it ~ I did feel it when they had to do an internal sono (that really was painful) the sono tech was measuring it etc. My doctor will be monitoring it during this pregnancy and I go for a sono at the end of the month and we will see what is happening in there.

They can go away on their own, or stay. Depends on the kind. My SIL had to have surgery while pregnant to remove hers. Only thing the baby did during surgery was punch the uterus, right next to where the dr was inside of her. They actually watched it on video. Quite funny.

I get them occasionally and they are usually tolerable but once I was doubled over in pain so bad and was dry heaving on the floor so DH freaked and drove me to the ER. The usual treatment is BCP which I was already on at the time so they pretty much waited for it to resolve on it's own, which they usually do. Sometimes people might need surgery but it's only if they are really big usually
