Immunity from Vaccine
It seems so many are having a hard time getting the Covid vaccine because of long lines and waits.
Since they don’t know how long the immunity will be after getting vaccinated, what does everyone think will happen when they figure out how long it lasts?
Will the lines be as long and people will be past their immunity time?
If everything can go back to normal and no mask wearing because everyone is vaccinated, then will we have to return to masks and distancing because it has basically “worn off”?
Since it seems this is a virus that will never go away, how can we trust that someone’s vaccine has “expired” that you are hanging out with?

Re: Immunity from Vaccine
I hope not. My plan is that everyone gets it now. The government gets their crap together and organizes the implementation better. So when they can confirm the immunity is a year, the hype has died out and I can walk in and get it like I would a flu shot.
I’m one of those selfish people that are like, yes go get it. Take time off!! so it’s funny less of a logistical nightmare for me when I do get it.
My whole team has pretty much gotten it.
Eta: I think the purpose of the vaccine is NOT get rid of the virus like everyone keeps saying. It’s to best case prevent you from getting it, worse case lessen your symptoms so you don’t have to go to the hospital or die.
This is not going away. Masks can go away when enough of the population get it, because it will spread but not to the point of causing massive influx of death and patients in the hospital.

Yes this is a shot, not a vaccine. Just wondering if it is a time sensitive thing, how will that work when in 6 months everyone will need to get the same shot at the same time.

Immunity from Vaccine
, Governor Cuomo announced on Friday, 3/12 that effective immediately, employees are eligible to receive paid time off in order to receive the COVID vaccination. “Employees will be granted up to four hours of excused leave per injection that will not be charged against any other leave the employee has earned or accrued.”
Employees will not be required to use available Paid Time Off (PTO) hours in order to get the COVID vaccination if the time off needed is less than or equal to 4 working hours.

LOL- I'm like you. I don't do lines. If I go in a store and the line is long, I walk out no matter how badly I need the item. I don't do sitting at a computer at 5 am refreshing 400 times. For concert tickets OR vaccines. My anxiety/stress level will not allow that.
I always said if and when I get this, it will be when I can waltz into my local City MD or CVS with no wait just like for a flu shot. Picking up a prescription and they ask you, hey would you like a Covid vaccine today? That's the level of convenience I need.

Honestly you can’t trust that someone vaccinated in general doesn’t have covid. There have been several news stories of people getting covid long after their second vaccine dose. As more people get the vaccine we will hear more of this. Perhaps this is why cases are going up when they should be going down. People are living normally thinking they are protected like an MMR vaccine when they have outright said this is more like a flu shot. Unfortunately every year I know many people that get the flu shot and still get the flu pretty bad. It’s only been a few months and there is so little we know about how this vaccine works.

I’m exactly the same. Long lines and trying to purchase a hot item are my triggers.
I didn’t even go to the supermarket one time last year because the line was long. I said forget it, we can order or starve but I’m not waiting on line for groceries. My son has been to amusement Park like twice in his life.

Totally agree but most think the “vaccine” is a life changer when hopefully it will be but it is a shot that will have to be taken like a flu shot and maybe even sooner than every year.

Off topic but we haven't been to Trader Joe's in a year because they are one of the few stores that still limits the amount of people in there and every time we go there is a line outside to get in. I don't do lines to get in stores. There's nothing in there I need that much that I'll wait outside like a bunch of cattle in the cold. The cookie butter will have to wait!

A vaccine you get annually is still called a vaccine. The word does not indicate lifelong immunity.

Oh my gosh! What is up with trader Joes. I drop my son off at his coaching pod and at 8am on Monday, there’s is a line. It’s been a year?? How many people do they let in, like 5 at a time? I don’t see any lines anywhere else except for the MD care facilities.

People have compared this shot to polio and measles and that is wrong. It might be called a vaccine but it is not comparable to something that you get once and you are protected from it forever.

Because people are ridiculous & illogical right now, if we go by that logic then why is the Flu still around? It’s just trying to push the agenda that this will only magically disappear if you get the vaccine, so then everyone rushes to get it. It’s too early to tell what the vaccine can really do and I think it’s trending more of a yearly shot.

Re: Immunity from Vaccine
As of right now, Pfizer is still "highly effective" at 6 months post vaccination, so that's a step in the right direction. I could see it being an annual shot like the flu shot, but it would be expected so it wouldn't be as difficult as it is now. Plus, by then your regular doctor will probably be administering it. Or at least your local pharmacy.

Not sure how everyone is defining life changing, but even if boosters are needed, this vaccine is life changing and has already enabled safe reopenings of things we all loved and missed. Life as we knew it has been resuming for awhile now.

You think things have opened because of the vaccine? In which states?

Yeah like what? What has reopened since the vaccine that wasn't reopened already?

I think vaccine rollout has played a sizable part in major companies coming up with return to work plans.

No clue as many don’t have their second vaccine let alone their first and numbers have not dropped at least here in NY that drastically.
All politics why things have opened.

Honestly I think most people are back at work. I am the only one of all my friends and family still at home. Most have been back since the summer.

Return to work “plans” meaning they aren’t opened yet. Seaside specifically said things have been reopening for awhile because of the vaccine, all the things we love and missed. This is not true. What is currently open has been open for a while and not because of the vaccine.
