Is anyone scared of secondary infertility?

Not to be a total downer, and I know I'm nuts but I can't help but worry about having secondary infertility. I am so scared that it will take forever to conceive another child (if we can do so at all)

After how many months of trying with your second - do you think you need to see someone?

We are still really early in the game and this is only my third month of trying - and I'm not out yet but I was wondering if/when you see a specialist? Would you think 6 months? A year? I will be 32 in December.

Told you - I'm a total nutjob!!!!!

Oh, Diana Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon My fingers are so crossed you and James this month!

I talked to Dr. H about this and she said to let her know after 6 months. I vented after a couple of months to her and she assured me how a few months of trying is totally normal. It's also sooo frustrating.

Ok - so six months it is.

I know it's no good to think like this - and I usually do have a positive attitude - but I can't help but become an emotional mess when AF is about to show up. UGH! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Is anyone scared of secondary infertility?

This is one of my biggest fears. I'm older (37) so I think I would talk to my OB after trying for approx. 6 months. I don't think you're a nutjob at all. Chat Icon If you are, then so am I. Chat Icon We haven't been trying very long, so I'm trying not to worry too much.

Re: Is anyone scared of secondary infertility?

I was extremely scared of this since I am 32, i have one ovary and I didnt "try" to get preggo with #1--but we didnt "prevent" and it still took about 5 months

with #2 it happened right away--but it was also Italy with lots of wine flowing

I think what I am trying to say is have fun, drink, dont worry and maybe if you let yourself calm down it will happenChat Icon

I know - the Type A personality in me has a hard time letting go of the control.

I know I can't control this and if it's meant to be it will happen, but as the months go on - and we get closer to the end of summer due dates - I am so scared that DH will go back to work and I will never be able to handle two kids on my own. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Is anyone scared of secondary infertility?

I have to put it out there and admit that this is a very humbling experience.

Josh was due to us saying for a few moments whatever happens happens...and he happened the first and only time.

I naively thought it was going to be that easy second time around.

Now, I have AF for the second time since trying.

I HATE not knowing if I should be planning summer vacations or not...

I am going to ride this out.
I had a really fun time BDing this month...(DH did not know we were BDing till night 3)
I did not test till day before AF...did not look on calendar.

I am someone who can be quickly consumed in all this.

I selfishly only really post on TTC and never really read anyones threads. I need to vent and confess to people where I am at, but I can't get into reading it all yet.

I am so glad Leo gave the okay to TTC again and we did not wait any longer.

Re: Is anyone scared of secondary infertility?

I am older than you so it's a total reality for me that I may not be able to have another one.

I know of one woman who had a 9 year boy. TTC for a while. Did the IVF, etc.... Nothing worked. She resigned herself that she would not get PG. She decided to get a puppy 1 year for Christmas. 2 days efore getting the puppy, she found out she was PG, just like that.

I don't think there is any rule of who or what.

You are not out yet!!!! It's "only" been 3 months. Since I am in the same mission as you, I know how it feels though. Once you are ready, you want it now.

6 months is your magic number before looking for other "options".

i hear ya.

I found out that I have a blood disorder and 2 other mutations in my blood that cause miscarriages. For some odd reason, I had a perfectly normal pregnancy with my first and never had a miscarriage. thank GOD. I feel like I am blessed to have her but so scared that I will not be able to have another. Chat Icon

Re: Is anyone scared of secondary infertility?

i had my son at 21 during my first marriage..i was remarried at 26 (to the right one lol) and i couldnt conceive for a very lng time..i had major gynocological issues though, 2 leep procedures, and talk of a full hystorectomy by 28 yrs old...we tried for over a year...didnt get pregnant until we stopped trying, and it was pretty much accidental..we were told we wouldnt probably get pregnant without the help of a dr..
i always had a wierd vibe id have a hard time, and i did...
if you havent done so, and you feel like strange about it like i did...i suggest going for a full exam at your gyno..just to check up on things and prepare yourself..maybe go on prenatals etc..
sorry to be a downer, just wanted to give you an honest answer!

Thank you - I def. appreciate your honesty! This month was the first month we used OPKs - the first two months were really wing it months - and I have no clue when the heck I ovulate. I will def. talk to my doctor once I hit the 6 month mark though - I'd rather tackle something head on then be blindsided! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Is anyone scared of secondary infertility?

It took 6-7 cycles for us to conceive the first time and that ended in m/c. Then 3 more for DS.

I debate when to start TTC for #2 b/c I wonder if it will takes several months again, or will it happen right away - b/c that's life!? Chat Icon

I try not to stress over it until it's necessary - but it's always a thought.

I hope you get your BFP soon. If I were you, I would give it that 6 months and then look into it unless you really believe something is wrong (but you said you were just going with the flow the first couple of months so it's probably nothing to worry about!)

Re: Is anyone scared of secondary infertility?

first off Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm am 85% convinced I'm infertile. So yes, I worry about it every day. I thank god every night for having my son. But admit that I am scared that this could be the new reality. But I tend to be irrationale with things like this. I'm totally irrationale when I'm not in control and tend to go to the negative spectrum.

That having been said don't lose hope. She's not here yet. And even if this isn't your month you'll get there. If at 6 months still no BFP then you'll see an RE. It's going to be ok!!!

Re: Is anyone scared of secondary infertility?

Yes. Especially since I found out during my c-section that I only have one ovary. My cycle is all over the place. We are trying, but not that hard. I am finding it really hard to chart this time bc either I forget to or I wake up at different times.... Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA - I am going to be 35 in dec.

Re: Is anyone scared of secondary infertility?

Yes. I am pretty sure I am going to have trouble the second time around, because I had cycle and ovulation problems while TTC the first time. I have been monitoring my cycles (just to know, not TTC til DS is 1 at least) and am 99% sure that I am not ovulating. I was hoping pregnancy would fix things Chat Icon .

Re: Is anyone scared of secondary infertility?

I dont think you should worry until there is reason to.

That being said, I am 35 and got preggo on the first try with my 2nd. (No joke, we had sex once that month Chat Icon and it happened that day). I heard that you are more fertile the 2nd time around. Dont know if there is any truths to that.

We never had fertility problems so I am not sure what other people's stories are. Just try not to stress and have fund BDing and it will happen.

i am definitely a little worried. I was told prior to having DS that i most likely had PCOS and that we were going to most likely have a hard time getting pregnant with him. Well we got pregnant the first month we tried. I really think of him as a little miracle. Me and my DH are already prepared that when we TTC #2 it prob wont be as easy or as quick.

I agree to give it another 3 months and if still nothing then maybe go see an REChat Icon I wish you guys lots of Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon .

Re: Is anyone scared of secondary infertility?

I had issues when ttc ds so I know it will not be easy for #2. I have 3 genetic clotting disorders, 2 autoimmune antibodies and pcos Chat Icon . But with the right drugs we got pregnant and carried ds to term and I hope/pray we can do it again for #2 and maybe even a #3 Chat Icon . If you feel there is a problem talk with your doctor. Some doctors don't make you wait 6 months before doing basic testing.
