I'm so confused why people wear ugly socks all the time put on clean non-holy socks people!
ALL socks are ugly when you're dressed up- that's why people wear (and spend oodles of $$ on) shoes. And as for the holes- usually their not spotted until a situation like being asked to remove my shoes arises......

I am sitting here wondering if people think its rude that I ask them to remove their CLOTHES before entering my home
In all seriousness...I hate being asked, to me it's rude...like someone else said..its just a house! It can be cleaned!
And I like keeping my shoes with heels on...it completes the look
the look or the hospital bill????
i think i would forgo the look for at least an hour or 2
The hospital bill? I'm confused, not sure what you mean.
I know the "look" thing seems weird...but one time i had great new leather boots to wear with a skirt/sweater and we were all asked to remove shoes. Not only did I lose 3 inches, i am standing there in ugly socks b/c I put on any socks i could find not thinking i'd be shoeless for a 5 hour party. I HATE being asked to take off my shoes, but i do it without complaint. I never ask others to do it though.
oh i had posted earlier that my son was in the hospital from being sick so i am alittle bit neurotic thats why i posted the bill
I totally undestand your point here, sorry i had skimmed a lot! I would of course remove my shoes for that reason...

I do not think it is rude at all regardless of whether or not you have a child crawling around on the floor. We always took off our shoes at my parent's house and I always request that shoe's be taken off at my house. When I go to someone's house, I always take my shoes off because I think it's rude not to...
Ditto! I find it to be rude not to take your shoes off.

Last time I checked DH didn't get excited over my socks...actually...I have pretty ugly feet, i must admit so he rarely glances at anything below my knees

I don't find it "rude" but it might make people uncomfortable. It wouldn't bother me at all. But regardless, obviously the people you are having in your home are family and friends. I *hope* that they would understand that you are doing it for what you see as your son's well-being.

Re: Is it rude of me to ask people to remove their shoes when coming in my house ????
I don't ask people to remove shoes in my house, because I have dogs, and since I don't wipe their paws everytime they come in the house, it seems silly to me to ask people to remove their shoes.
I also don't remove mine when I go to someone's house.
However, I don't think its rude to ask or require someone to remove them, and if asked I will.
if I were to do it I think I would have some spare socks/slippers available and offer them when asking, so they feel more comfortable.
just my opinion.

I wouldn't be offended if I was asked, but I would never ask anyone to take their shoes off at my house. You would rather someone like my husband have his shoes on!

Oh, I just thought of another thing - what if you have to go to the bathroom? I don't want to go to the bathroom barefoot - men miss sometimes

Seriously. If you know you are going to a friend's house or to a party, why would you wear skeevy socks anyway?

Honestly? Because I would never expect that I would be asked to take my shoes off. You're making it sound like someone would say, "Hmmmm- let me find skeevy socks to wear- maybe I'll be lucky and get asked to take my shoes off."
IMO- ALL socks are skeevy- they are to be worn UNDER shoes- never to see the light of day until I get undressed at night. If they weren't we'd all be wearing Trumpettes.....

I would certainly expect to take my shoes off at a house with small children. In fact, I ask the host first if I should. I'm more than willing.
I have a crawling child and if I were having a party, I wouldn't ask guests to take off their shoes. If one person was coming over, yes I would ask them to take off their shoes.

we don't wear shoes in my house...many people follow along when they see me answer the door in my socks.
I never ask someone to take off their shoes, but at the same time I would never be offended by someone asking me.

and quite honestly, Id rather clean my floors after everyone leaves, than have a pile of 78 smelly shoes by my front door.
we rarely have just one or two people over...
ITA!!
I wouldn't ask anyone, but they could if they wanted to...but we have a dog, so then they become fair game

We do not wear shoes in our home- they are taken off at the door.
I never ask a guest to remove their shoes- but my fingers are crossed they get the hint, when they see all of our shoes are off and there is a shoe rack @ the front door.

Re: Is it rude of me to ask people to remove their shoes when coming in my house ????
First I have to ask who you define as "guest". Personally if it was my very close friend or close family member I wouldn't care but if I were hosting a party or having a not so close friend over I wouldn't. Honestly I think it is rude to ask a guest to remove their shoes. If I were that concerned I would make sure I washed my floors after my son crawled on them. I feel guests are guests and they should not be made to feel uncomfortable in my home. Plus I am the type of person who feels uncomfortable without shoes at a party.

Re: Is it rude of me to ask people to remove their shoes when coming in my house ????
Growing up we NEVER wore shoes in the house. I was always used to people being asked to take them off when they came over. If any workmen came over to deliver an appliance we always put out runners for them to walk on. I guess it's the way people were brought up.
In my opinion: It's your house. If you want people to walk around without pants it's your decision. (Although, that would be a bit strange.) Your house your rules.
