another thing, what makes someone think I want to wear their slippers ???
Maybe THAT bothers us MORE than having shoes in the house bothers them.
LMAO 30 barefoot people EWWW
and its not so much that it's rude to ask/request, its rude to EXPECT everyone to agree and comply youre kind of put on the spot "take your shoes off or dont enter my home"
and for parties that are "in and out" in the summer, is it really expected that people take their shoes on and off if they have to come into the house for something ??
for heaven's sake, just clean your floors people.
ugh, Im getting more and more annoyed with this topic.

Anna, you have no clue about whether or not I give new or clean slippers to my guests (I rewash them each use). Which I do. Floors are cleaned daily. What I find gross is people walking into MY home with their nasty shoes on (it happens, I wash my floors, however I PREFER for it not to in MY home). I RESPECT anyones rules in their home. Sad others do not. As for parties shoes are on for coming in and out. I think if you get annoyed with a topic you shouldn't continue to reply or read it. KWIM

Re: Is it rude of me to ask people to remove their shoes when coming in my house ????
I know where you are coming from and I totally understand but I think it is sort of an uncomfortable thing to make people take their shoes off if they don't volunteer. Sometimes when people see shoes lined up by the door on a mat they assume it is what goes on in the home and they actually will just do it- try that maybe?

i guess we are the minority
i didnt realise people would find this so rude ???? i thought that knowing i have a little one people would understand
i think most people are happy to take them off to help your dc and understand. if they don't i have no problem explaining it. I think better for your guests to be a little uncomfortble for a short time then your DC to be sick. JMO

Re: Is it rude of me to ask people to remove their shoes when coming in my house ????
In our house when you walk through the front door your in the living rm and we have carpet. We all take off our shoes when walking in, my ds's friends do and so does my family. However I feel uncomfortable to ask other people. How I wish I could. About 2mos ago I had Stanley steamers come and clean my rug, it came out beautiful. Then on my step dtrs b-day party it was rained in the am so it was muddy outside and I had about 20 people in my house and when they left my rug is now horrible again. Dh told me I should of asked people to remove their shoes but I felt that would of been rude of me. So if your able to ask then I suggest that you do

Re: Is it rude of me to ask people to remove their shoes when coming in my house ????
I love being without shoes. It was the way we were raised. As soon as we came in the shoes came off, but I always thought we were the minority and always kept my shoes on at other's houses (like someone mentioned - I just thought it was the American way)
so - either way - on or off - I'm not bothered. I would love it actually if people asked me to take my shoes off.
and i also love the slipper idea - I think I'm going to get some washable slippers to keep in a basket by my front door.

I am sitting here wondering if people think its rude that I ask them to remove their CLOTHES before entering my home
In all seriousness...I hate being asked, to me it's rude...like someone else said..its just a house! It can be cleaned!
And I like keeping my shoes with heels on...it completes the look

This is such a fine line, I think. I mean, my kids live on the floors in my house, and we are constantly vacuuming, shampooing carpets and scrubbing floors because of it. It's just what you have to do with little ones.
I don't find the whole removal of shoes rude or embarrassing...but that's me. Upon entering our house, me, DH and the kids all do the same routine...remove jackets and shoes, put on slippers and wash hands immediately. You have to do what you believe is going to protect your family and keep your home healthy.
But, I don't demand guests remove their shoes, especially b/c my house is built on a slab and in the winter, my floors are FREEZING COLD. If people want to remove their shoes, great. If not, come in and make yourself comfortable. I'll clean up later.
ITA. DH, me and DS take off our shoes when come into the house. However the only time we have asked guest to removed their shoes was if they were going to be in DS room. Any other place in the house is fine, I will clean up later.
If I was at someones home and they asked me to remove my shoes then fine I will. I won't be comfortable being there barefoot or even in socks but I will do it. Their home their rules. I'd probably make the visit short just because I hate to be without shoes in someones elses house.

The hospital bill? I'm confused, not sure what you mean.
I know the "look" thing seems weird...but one time i had great new leather boots to wear with a skirt/sweater and we were all asked to remove shoes. Not only did I lose 3 inches, i am standing there in ugly socks b/c I put on any socks i could find not thinking i'd be shoeless for a 5 hour party. I HATE being asked to take off my shoes, but i do it without complaint. I never ask others to do it though.

Re: Is it rude of me to ask people to remove their shoes when coming in my house ????
For parties, I ABSOLUTELY think it's rude. It's rude because it can potentially make your guests feel uncomfortable- and guests should NEVER be made to feel uncomfortable.
My shoes are part of my outfit- and there are times I have holes in my socks (damned dog), or my toes haven't been polished. Hell- I've even worn 2 different colored socks accidently.
As for slippers- regardless of whether they've been washed- I would prefer NOT to wear something someone else has worn on their feet. And again, your socks likely DON'T match my skillfully planned outfit.
Bare feet and stockinged feet skeeve me out. Clean your floors AFTER we leave if you're so worried.
JMHO.....

I'd rather have ugly socks on then an ugly outfit, but we're getting off the topic here....
Since when can socks be holy?

Mine weren't holy. But you have to understand..I'm usually in sneakers all the time, wearing white ankle socks. I could NOT find dress socks..finally found a hideous old pair.
I mean it was a holiday party!! With like 40 guests! The men were mortified to remove their shoes, DH included and the women were all pizzed!! My friends and I kind of laughed it off.
The hostess didn't want her carpet ruined. Thing is it was 5 year old carpet...get over it!! (her, not you!)
