Well here are my two cents.
I think being a parent is difficult.
I think being a celebrity (or celebrity sister) is difficult.
I think being a teenager is difficult.
I think being a teenage mother is difficult.
Put those three together, and this girl is up one heck of an uphill battle. That's not to say she can't rise to the occassion and be a great mom (which I hope she does), but the odds are stacked against her.
I think one of the reasons Brittany went beserk is that she never got to grow up and find herself. Granted, any of us could feel like that.
But add the celebrity factor in with it (tons of money, getting in anywhere you want, people "yessing" you all the time) and it makes it all the more challenging to stay grounded.
So I hope she doesn't follow in Brittany's footsteps, but I wouldn't be surprised if she does.
but she has something that about 95% of teen mothers DON'T have.
MONEY.
may not make life happier, but it makes buy shyt a lot easier.
I don't feel bad for her. I don't feel bad for her mommy, her daddy...and because if nothing else this kid will have a trust fund...I only feel half bad for the upcoming child.
I mean....of all the stories of teen pregnancy to start a moral debate over...this is the LAST one I could think of.
I'd be more worried about the 16 year olds in school right now with your kids...drinking at parties and banging their boyfriends under the bleechers...with or without a condom.

probably b/c, it is more likely for this situation to ring true in your life than say....stealing Brad Pitt from Jennifer Aniston.
and since people can relate to this, they run the risk of taking comments personally.

The part that REALLY bothers me is that she was LIVING WITH HER BOYFRIEND. Where are her parents?! I understand 16 yr olds have sex, and even if she lived with one of her parents she may have still became pregnant, but if her parents were actually guiding her and she was living with them like a 16 year should be then she may have used BC or had a curfew or been talking to someone about her choices before she made them. Lynn Spears and her ex-husband have done a ROTTEN job of parenting (or lack of), i.e. the minute they let Jamie Lynn live on her own as a 16 year old (or younger possibly.) This potentially could have been prevented had someone actually guided this teen instead of 'trusting' her to be mature enough to care of herself, which you are not at 16 unless in a dire case of abuse where you need to move out of the home.
I hope for the best for her. I imagine it's tough to be a young mom, let alone in the spotlight.

Yeah, but to be honest, I think about the people I know who are the most messed up, and they come from money.
Her parents don't have my sympathy. She doesn't have too much of my sympathy. But that baby, you bet he/she has my sympathy if she can't pull her act together.
I wasn't raised with a lot of money, but my parents were amazing and loving. I wouldn't exchange my upbringing from Birttany's kids for all the money in the world.

my comparison was specifically a RICH teen mother vs. a not so rich one.
money will make it easier.
money will buy that kid clothes, diapers, FOOD. money will keep her off welfare. money will hopefully get her a nanny with some sense.
money will lessen the desperation that Lil Spears will feel...she will not feel the pain of having to choose leaving her child home alone vs. taking the day off from work.
the realities of teen pregnancy most likely very few of you know.
Money will make it infinitely easier.

All the $$$ in the world cannot put sense into a person's head, as evidenced here.
It didn't work for her sister, it didn't work for her parents, and obviously it hasn't helped this child either.
I feel badly for that unborn baby.....poor thing.....

I disagree. Money doesn’t make things easier if you don't know what the real riches of life are, the things you can't buy. These lessons about the real riches are more likely to be learned when you don't have money. She’s grown up surrounded by her sister’s wealth and craziness. She may be able to pay the bills but that doesn't mean that she will be able to make good choices for herself or the kid. I just hope she isn't as spiritually and inwardly as void as her sister. Britney just looks likes an empty soul that doesn't understand the real riches in life despite having it all.

This isn't meant directly at you.
But as parents, I think we need to be real careful who we let our kids look to as role models.
Just because a kid has a successful TV show, I don't think qualifies them as a role model.
What has she done that would make her a role model? I never understood this with any actor/actress.

The reason for my example of lumping her with her sister, Jessica Alba, Nicole etc...is only because I was pointing out that it SEEMS that babies are the hot new item in many cases...
Celebrities show a glorified version of parenthood......all the wonderful things that go along with being a mom, a dad, pregnancy etc...
We see the smiling pics of Jamie Lynn with her boyfriend, we see the glow of Nicole Ritchie and how she is looking healthier than ever etc..
I wish ALL these women all the luck and prayers in the world. Hopefully motherhood will be the single best thing in their lives as they deserve to know that happiness.
But to the average, everyday, NON millionaire, non celebrity teenage/unwed girl, there are many obstacles and not so glamorous moments that will come with motherhood as it will for the celebrities themselves...we just won't ever see that side of it...that is my point
**Edited to add...you KNOW there are 16 year old girls out there who will hear this and think "Well she is becoming a mom and she's happy about it, babies are great" and be not so careful with their birth control situations..
I don't think the majority of fans think that way, but 16 year old girls AND boys are naive, and boy do celebrities create impressions!

You are 100% right about the money situation.
It WILL make it much easier than what the average teen would go through...such as dropping out of school and working FT or having grandma and grandpa step in to parent, or worrying every week about providing basic necessities like diapers and formula etc...
It doesn't mean ANYONE at 16 will have it easy, hell pregancy is NOT easy and neither is becoming a new mom. But a new mom with nannys, no money worries etc has a definite advantage!

I couldn't believe it when I heard this last night, one thing is for sure, DD won't be watching Zoey 101 anymore!! No real loss tho, it's a stupid show anyway. It doesn't matter how she got into this situation, she's in it now. And sadly, this publicity is just keeping her and the Spears family in the spotlight. Any attention, even negative attention, is better than no attention at all for celebrities.
I wish her luck, I really do bc I know she's going to need it. I hope that baby is healthy and happy, just like I would for anyone else. But I am afraid that all of this publicity might just be making teen pregnancies seem "glamorous" to young, impressionable kids. I'm not saying she's single-handedly starting an epidemic, but how do you respond to your child when they say "Well Jaime-Lynn Spears had sex at 16 and she got PG and everything is going great, so why can't I do the same thing??"
Oh, and don't get me started on the "at least she's keeping it" comments. For anyone who thinks having an abortion is the "easy way out", think again.
